I like the food here, it keeps me happy. My only problem I have is with the name, I think that they should change the name of the place because it sounds like a curse word. If you don’t know what cuss word it’s ass. It sounds like jack ass.

I had lunch today at Jack Astor’s. I got there fairly early … it started filling up later on. I ordered what I always get at Jack Astor’s … Chicken Parmigiana. There were supposed to be garlic chips on/with it but there weren’t any on mine … I guess they forgot? I’ve never had them before so didn’t know what I was missing. Emily was my server. She was friendly and chatty.

I went in to Jack Astor’s Dartmouth crossing today for lunch and I am very disappointed with our service. There was 3 of us and we waited to get a drink to our table for about 15 minutes, when we ordered our food it was out on time but we were never asked if we needed another drink the entire time we were here. We had to flag her down for everything, our orders didn’t even come out right. All we wanted was to sit down, unwind and enjoy our lunch but that didn’t happen; This isn’t the first time we’ve had a poor experience at the location.

Waited 30 minutes for a table. That was ok. Got our table. There were 6 of us. Placed our order. My Sister ordered a beer. When her beer came it smelled like perfume. So much that I could smell it sitting beside her. Our food came 45 minutes later. Sincerely none of us were impressed with any of it. I had nachos and they were no better than the ones my teenage son makes in the microwave at home. They were soggy. My other half had a burger and fries. The fries were about the size of a small from McDonald’s and the burger was burnt and dry. The bathroom was disgusting. We won’t be going back any time soon. If ever.

I always get a Texas roadkill sandwich. Which has always been great. Horrible name though. The service was really bad though. He took our order, took our empty plates, gave us a bill. It took us over 20 minutes from the time he took our plates to get the bill. I also get a garden salad with their homemade dressing which is great, but they drenched the salad. Just make sure you order your dressing on the side!

Every time I visit the Atlantic Canada I’m impressed by people’s hospitality. When a friend that I haven’t seen in a long time invited me to join him at jack Astor’s, I wasn’t too excited(as I tend to favour small, family owned, local restaurants). I wasn’t excited when we found out that there would be a line either(which to be quite honest didn’t take long). But not only the food was quite good, our waitress went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. I believe that influenced my positive bias about the food and alone would convince me to go back. I believe our waitress name was Jill. So thank you for been so polite and welcoming.

Jacks is always a good choice. Great for a quick dinner on a night out at the movies. Haven’t had anything on the menu that I didn’t like. Barack is normally friendly and fast.

It’s usually not my choice to eat at a big box restaurant, to me, they’re like the Walmart of the food industry, but when you get that urge for lots of space to sit, and lots of parking. big box is where it’s at. The food is good here, nothing to write home about… we all know why you go to Jack Astors. To colour on the table! It’s the deciding factor for me really. It’s that little bit extra that sets it apart from all the other big restaurant chains, and makes it my favourite of that type. I have to say, the last time I was there I had the Thai lettuce wraps, and they were so good! It’s a starter, but was large enough to fill me and I wasn’t able to finish.

Ordered the lobster crab dip and chicken fingers. slight mix up with the order the food came out. The manager and server were both amazing. They fixed the problem and we had a great meal.

Went to Jack Astros once, walked in, nice looking spot, sign outside said«sorry we’re open» I should have avoided this place. I ordered the burger and the most disgusting brick of garlic fries I’ve ever had. I ate ¼ of the brick of fries and couldn’t down anymore garlic. I ate ½ the burger which I ended up beating to death with a fork and knife to eat because it just fell apart trying to eat it. Needless to say the waitress noticed I was upset with my fries and didn’t make me pay for them or the burger, doesn’t mean I will be back. I would avoid this place at all costs

Place is lively and always has great food. Very busy on a Friday night. Especially with it being sooo close to the theatre. We went here around 730 on a Friday night. Waited about 10 minutes for a seat which was great! I was surprised. They have a time frame of about 45 minutes to get you seated, eating, and bill on the table…(I used to work at Jacks) The food is always great. Fresh and flavorful. I had the ceasar and the Holy smokes BBQ burger. It was very good. Love the onion strings. I substituted for sweet potato fries. Also very good… And they came with a spicy curry mayo.. My girlfriend had the bowtie chicken parm. Her fav. We were in. Out. 42 minutes. Our waitress was friendly p, attentive and Prompt. Great job Amanda

I’ve been here alot of times, good drinks and usually good food. I ordered the pulled pork poutine, I’m a huge fan of both poutine and pulled pork and i was really looking forward to it! It came out and i took a bite and suddenly my mouth was on fire… For some odd reason when they placed this item on the menu they didn’t put a symbol to say how spicy the burger was. I actually couldn’t eat it, so i asked for another one. By the time the second one came out everyone we were dinning with was finished… I’m not sure how it can take so long to make a poutine. Wont be ordering that again.

I arrived at jack astors around noon on March 6 with my wife and our 20 yr old daughter. The service and food was ok but the most glaring characteristic of the restaurant were the uniforms that the female waitresses were wearing. Very short black skirts, black knee socks, with a tight low cut almost sleeveless top. The uniforms obviously well thought out to be a strategic part of their business, similar to Hooter’s restaurants. Of course the male waiters had black jeans and a loose fitting black t-shirt.quite a double standard. Forcing the girls into this degrading and discriminatory practice must be insulting to the staff and is certainly insulting to customers who assume the restaurant is doing this for the customer’s benefit. So I’ll choose to remove Hooter ’ s and Jack Astors from my restaurants of choice.

This is my favourite place to eat — hands down! And I eat out ALOT for my job. Great food, great atmosphere and excellent staff. I’ve literally never had a bad experience at any of their restaurants(note St. John’s NL is by far my favourite). Family time, boys night out, client meeting. Check, check and check! Given the choice I would pick Jack’s every time.

I keep trying to like Jack Astor’s the drinks are always good, the food is decent and I like the atmosphere but the service is consistently terrible. I was there for a birthday party this Saturday and it took and hour for them to seat us and another hour for the food to arrive. When I first got there I asked the hostess where my party was seated she shrugged said she wasn’t sure and that I could wander around until I found them. 20 minutes of wandering later I found my party which was waiting in the bar because the servers didn’t have our table ready yet(we made a reservation 3 days prior and this was 30 minutes past when the reservation was for). When we were finally seated two servers started taking orders but didn’t talk to each other so we were constantly being interrupted to ask if our order had been taken yet. 45 minutes later the food arrived, two of the entrées were burnt and had to sent back which resulted in another prolonged wait for food. When it finally came time to order dessert the servers only took orders for half the table and then wandered off. This is my third and last time at Jack Astor’s they really need to have better training for their wait staff.

This is quite possibly my favourite place to eat in all of Dartmouth Crossing. Actually, it is my favourite place! Now. Be warned. The service sucks. Seriously, every time i’ve come here it’s been after work(around 11pm). Usually they close at 12pm and the waiters/waitresses always seemed royally angry that we arrive an hour before they close. Ummmm okie? which is really too bad because their food is extremely good. I love their chicken fingers, lobster dip and you know what else is amazing? they have… *Drumroll* VANILLACOKE! You might think: um, you can just buy that anywhere. False it’s only sold in the United States, sometimes the Freak Lunchbox(for about $ 3 a can) or Petes(same price as FL). It’s really hard to get a hold of so it’s nice to get a quick refresher here. plus, you can draw on the tables(with paper) and PS. Yes. I’m a child. Its fun! the burgers are good and I’ve heard the steaks are great too

I recently dined at the spot and was disappointed following my meal. I had some pan bread and a beer while my dining partners meals were nicely plated and tasty. While waiting for the bill, one of the servers was wiping the banquets, seats and menus with a dish rag. She then took the same dish cloth and proceeded to wipe the tops of the salt and pepper shakers, and the dispensing parts of Franks red hot and the ketchup. Unsettling to say the least. I emailed the resto directly as well for this mistep.

Had a business lunch at this Jack Astor’s. JA’s is good at offering a well diverse menu of many different North American continental dishes that most will have no issue with. I consider it a bit on the more civilized side of chain restaurants. It’s never been my favourite but I don’t hate it! So it’s somewhere in the middle for me! I went with the vegetarian pizza. This comes prepared by some JA’s chefs«over garlic’ed» so I mentioned to my server that I would like it lighter on the garlic. Pizza was light doughy, lots of vegetables and not too much garlic! It had a light layer of arugula on top and very little balsamic glaze! Pizza was a 7 out of 10 for me. We sat in the lounge area which was decent. Service was friendly and adequate.

I hadn’t been to Jack Astor’s in a while but ended up there for a working lunch. The service is fast, and they’re very attentive. The atmosphere is a little loud but we got a good corner and got straight to work. The food is pretty good — got a mushroom ravioli, lunch sized, and it was just right. Nice and hot, not too filling, not too little. Overall a good working lunch but nothing that blows my socks off.

This is a pretty big ‘meh’, but what do you expect from a big chain? We ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich, and they were both edible, though expensive for such pre-prepared ingredients. The salad and soup of the day — tomato bisque — were actually better than the mains they preceded. At least the Keith’s Red was cold and offered up in a nice tall chilled glass. The service was just fine, until the latter part of the meal when we wanted to pay in order to get to a movie and our server stopped by at least three times to assure us she’d be right back with the machine to run credit cards through. She arrived with it just as the last bite was finished of the last meal, so it was just in time, but not overly impressive. Verdict: friendly service was slightly better than average and the food was slightly below average. Depends on what you’re looking for!
