The Links at Montague is a challenging 9-hole executive golf course that will test the mettle of all handicappers — high and low. Situated in Lake Loon, about a 25-minute drive from Halifax, the course is relatively short, but is rather deceptive in that any tee shots slightly off centre will lead to a high score. Montague is one of the few courses in Nova Scotia where you actually have to cross a road to get to one of the holes(the par-43rd hole) and then you have to cross back in order to play holes 7 – 9. Memorable holes include Hole #3, but the next hole is probably the signature hole as you have a spectacular view of Lake Loon. Holes 6 – 8 are also filled with character, the latter a par-3 plays at 165 yards, but feels like it is close to 200 yards. The last hole is a dogleg par-4; however, I found it to be a bit of a disappointment for a closing hole. I also have to take a star away for the price — $ 34.00 for just 9 holes — which is a bit steep. I believe one of the reasons is that the course also has a driving range, putting green, and practice sand traps, so maintenance costs would be higher than an Indian Lake or Pin-Hi. Montague does have specials from time-to-time and perhaps the most popular is a Sunday special where you can golf for just $ 23.00 after 3:00PM and you get a hamburger and hot dog after your round.
