In the land of very few independent bakeries, this place is a reasonably reliable choice.

I’m in Slavic heaven. Baltyk is a Kingway-​area treat. Look past the nondescript interior and discover an eye-​popping selection of Polish doughnuts, cheesecakes, breads, buns and pastries. The plum jam-​filled doughnuts are feather-​light, bursting with rich plum filling, and beat doughnuts from a certain franchise (no names shall be mentioned) any day. The breads are crusty and fresh, the coffee cakes are rich and moist and — drab interior aside — the atmosphere is homey. Smacznego!
