Just had another great meal can’t believe how much I like the place the service was amazingly fast and the food was excellent. The split dessert fruit they actually do whatever you ask timely and with a smile. Great wine and awesome dessert. Fresh whipped cream to die for.

Nice place to go for lunch. They take reservations so you can plan ahead and bring your group of friends. They have plenty of options on the menu although I found it a little more expensive than the average. They also have some international beers and wines. I liked the decoration and setup of the place. We got 18% of gratuity added to our checks because we were a group of eight people, the server wasn’t very happy when we asked for separate bills. It is a good place for food but didn’t become my favorite.

Been coming here since I lived in Edmonton 25 years ago. It’s simply one of the few spots to eat left in Edmonton that makes me smile every time I visit. Love it all.

a great prelude to czech cuisine & drink. in terms of authenticity, i can’t comment until the end of 2016. however, give me a cordon blu wiener schnitzel($ 25 for full order) and a nice dark czech lager($ 9) and i’m one happy customer. the schnitzel comes with a green or tomato onion salad and a small scoop of potato salad. i was very pleased with everything on my plate. the edam cheese and ham with the schnitzel went together like hand in glove. and the baron lager was a smooth chaser. service was very good as well. my only criticism is that they seem to pack people in like sardines here. smaller place and perhaps too many tables. the density did lighten up towards the end of dinner though. great dining experience. definitely, be back again real soon.

Best place in town for middle earth(hillbilly European) type steak tartare. Delicious. For the rest I pretty much stay away because of the fat content and gallstone forming potential of all the recipes… after all Germany, Czech republic and Slovakia as well as Hungary are not really known for refinement unless we are talking deserts/strudels…who are they kidding. Nevertheless for what it is, it is excellent. Well executed. Service can be a little ify, with staff with attitude but it’s a European bistro, what the heck did you expect?

«taste of home, the food is exceptional» I am quite conflicted in writing this review. I’ve been on a business trip in Edmonton for a week and since my hotel was within walking distance from Bistro Praha and myself being born in Czech Republic, there was just no way I could ignore this place. I went there for a dinner on 3 consecutive evenings. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was able to take an advantage of rare treat and have a Czech dish that is not on the menu. The food was extremely good, however, I felt like sides were almost as an afterthought. They served a smallish ice cream scoop of very good potato salad with huge schnitzel. Only 3 slices of dumplings were served even though they are one of the most significant staples of Czech diet. The truth to be told, it is a fact that potato salad and dumplings are not healthy for you in large quintiles and most of the clientèle might not find«cesky knedlik» exciting enough. Other than that all food was very good and will stop by again if my travels bring me back to Edmonton.

The appetizer pâté was very good. The schnitzel was good taste wise but it I was very disappointed as it was made with veal instead of Pork. Traditionally schnitzel is with pork unless mentioned otherwise. Service was excellent. A little on the expensive side.

Really delicious food. They have phenomenal crepes for dessert as well. Plus and interesting beer and wine selection. Service is usually on the slow side, but that just makes it feel a little more authentic. Don’t go here if you’re in a rush, go to enjoy yourself.

Wow, Bistro Praha, where have you been my past 13 years in Edmonton? Or maybe, I should be asking my husband, «Why have you kept your dirty little mistress from me so long?!?» I came here a couple of weeks ago, for the first time, with a group of Unilocalers after an event ended. The place was adorable — I felt like I was visiting my Gramma minus the plastic cloth chair covers. We came H-U-N-R-Y(No, you read that right… We were so hungry, I ate the G). Anyhow, we ordered the pan fried cheese, two kinds of schnitzels(cordon blue and weiner), escargot, cabbage soup, the steak tar tar, and the Austrian apple struedel. The schnitzels were HUGE, we seriously didn’t even finish them and the beef tar tar was among the best I have ever had. Seriously, we had to order more fried bread. That stuff was like crack… REALLY! 2 bottles of wine later — we were a very happy crowd. The only item that didn’t WOW me was the Austrian apple streudel; nothing wrong with it, just not my thing. Our server was attentive, friendly, and informative — what more could you ask for? I will definitely be back! Next time, I simply must try some of the desserts, like the crepes, all the Unilocalers are raving about!

This place is one of the most authentic and classiest places I have ever been to. Arctic char is amazing. Their salad is fantastic. And the lamb is sensational. Highly recommend it.

I love this restaurant, one of my favorites, and consistent over the years – the menu offerings are good, tasty, food and I always leave pleasantly affirmed that the menu and quality never changes. Definitely get the schnitzel, that’s my favourite. A very cozy, elegant place with good food and service.

During my nice day off strolling around downtown, I wanted to have lunch somewhere I hadn’t eaten before. Bistro Praha’s been on my list for quite a while. The dining room is nice and cozy, with thick wood antique-type tables like you used to see at Grandma’s house. It took me a minute to decide what I wanted. My waitress was cute and friendly and took my drink order, then came back when I’d decided. I had the regular Wiener Schnitzel, which comes with a side of potato salad and slice or two of cucumber, plus a lemon to dress it with. SO yummy! Lovely and crispy outside, nice and moist inside, with that little touch of lemon that makes it extra yummy. The potato salad tasted just like my mom’s, which I haven’t had in years. I need to get the recipe from someone. With this I had a glass of white wine. I don’t remember which kind– I want to say Sauvignon Blanc, which went nicely with it. For dessert, I splurged a little bit and had the apple strudel. It was good, but I was a bit disappointed that it was cold to room temperature. Perhaps I’m so used to apple pie when it’s fresh out of the oven, nice and hot, but it was a bit of a letdown. I loved that the waitress explained something when I had a question, but was not overly intrusive and let me read my book. Subtracting one star for the un-hot strudel. But will be back.

Great home cooked meal. Nothing fancy but great flavour. I have had the tar tar and it is delicious. My usual meal is the wiener schnitzel. Potato salad is very flavourful. Always enjoy any of the crepes for desert. One of our favorite eateries.

I really adore their crêpe desserts. I first tried them when I visited during a Dishcrawl event several years ago and have only eaten a main course there once since that time… and I insisted on having more dessert as my memories of having it the first time were just that delicious! I was really impressed with the quality of the potato salad and fried cheese in my main course too. The service was attentive if perhaps a little slow but I enjoyed the ambiance of this little place, and think that it is well worth revisiting to try more items from the menu.

Reliably tasty central European food. I’ve been coming here since I was little. I was very happy when they re-opened after the fire. Luckily, they seem to be doing well in the new location. I’ve tried a variety of dishes on the menu. My favorites include the cabbage soup, Sarka salad, goose with dumplings, and goulash. I’ve never ordered the schnitzel myself, but I always have a bite of my husband’s. It’s very good. This is definitely a restaurant that I recommend to people. I don’t go here too often, but when I do, I always enjoy it.

Old european flare. Large dishes splashed with a dash of homecooking flavour that cant be beat. The dishes are huge. The prices cheap. It has the vibe that a grandma is cooking back there cursing in another language that its not good enough for her. But the dishes are fantastic. The fried cheese was gooey and crispy. The snitzel huge and tasty. The sides were so delish. The apple struesel was one of a kind. It tasted like homemade pie baked literally 5 min ago. I felt like I was trasported to eastern europe. And only remebered I was In edmonton after I stepped out in minus 30 weather. I wish I could frequent more often. The service is friendly and paced perfectly as well.

I have been a regular customer at this establishment since 1978, and I continue to view it as my «go to» for fine European dining in Edmonton. I have never had even a mediocre meal here. The food is always exemplary. After the fire that closed the original location, I was at a loss for the 2 years it took to finally reopen in new digs, but I like the new location as much or more than the previous. Szarka and Milan have recaptured the ambience of the original space, and having much of the original art and furnishings make this a comfortable space, where one can forget that they are not in a new building entirely. Recommended dishes: The Fried Breaded Cheese is to die for. Best Steak Tartar in Edmonton Filet Mignon Palace is, in my opinion, the best steak in town. Griiled Chicken Alcron — Savoury and delicious. The service is professional and highly proficient. Most of the staff ahve been there for years. Some may find the service a bit aloof, but that to me is the hallmark of fine European service. The wait staff in this restaurant are career servers, and it shows. I have eaten in fine restaurants all over the western hemisphere, and this remains one of my favourites, anywhere. I am lucky the Bistro Praha is so close to home.

Bistro Praha caught our eyes when Joe and I had the Hungarian sausage on the last Dishcrawl we attended. The rest of the menu looked interesting and last Sunday we managed to finally give it a go. During my Europe trip before I graduated, I actually visited Prague for a couple of days. It was one of the more interesting cities I had been to, rich in history and architecture and the old world Eastern Europe feel versus the Westernized worlds of the UK and France in comparison. For some reason, I can’t remember what I ate there as my main meals, and all I remember are sausage stands open late for the nightclub crowd. It’d be interesting to see what Czech food is like, albeit in Edmonton! For a Sunday night, the restaurant was doing pretty well — most tables occupied around 7pm. Inside, the dining area is divided into two sections. We were seated in the main area, a prominent light fixture above us from a curved ceiling, and artworks depicting the old Prague throughout. Our server was kind, very speedy, and very relaxed throughout the night. Their main specialty is schnitzel, a thinly pounded boneless meat, covered in bread crumbs and fried. Different varieties are available to order, the traditional being the Wiener schnitzel, made from veal. To cover our bases, we ordered an appetizer, two different entrees, and a dessert to share. Our appetizer was the fried breaded cheese, a Czech dish. Usually made from Hermelin or Edam, the thick cut cheese is breaded and fried, served with a tartar sauce, as was traditional during the Communist period. The crust was super crispy, not greasy at all. The cheese was Edam and just the right thickness for it to ooze out as soon as you cut into it. By itself, it tasted pretty much like hot, crispy, gooey cheese goodness. With the tartar sauce though, tasted even better! It came with a choice of potato salad or pan-fried potatoes. Our server recommended the pan-fried potatoes and thank goodness he did. So good! Medium cut slices, fried until golden brown, not greasy, and was seasoned very well. Very addictive! I love cheese… Each main entrée comes with a side of green salad or tomato and onion salad. Both regular salads, nothing to get excited about. Our dinner came out rather quickly from the time of ordering. I had ordered the Wiener schnitzel, a full order(half orders available), in order to share with Joe. As a star dish of Vienna, it’s also popular in Czech Republic. The portions were gigantic! I was able to get through one piece of cutlet, while Joe sized up his portion. The breading is the same as the cheese, making the veal cutlet have a crispy exterior. It was a little under seasoned for my taste, but I believe I have a very salty palate. By itself, I was missing some sort of sauce although I knew that wasn’t traditional. Alternating bites with the side of potato salad helped quite a bit. Joe ordered the filet of sole. Well cooked, nicely seasoned with herbs, salt, and pepper, and a side of buttered mushrooms to accompany it. Is it just me or is the fish and mushroom combination a bit odd? I don’t think I’ve ever had a dish with the two, mushrooms usually accompanying steaks or meats rather than seafood. Just a thought while I happily ate my portion of the fish. The pan-fried potatoes made a second appearance, although this time they seemed to be unseasoned. Not sure if this was intentional or a mistake. Otherwise, a great dish. For dessert, I was craving the banana crêpe. This was the best way the meal could have possibly ended. Our server knew we were sharing and was thoughtful enough to split the dish for us without us having to request it! The dish was super yummy, not too sweet, although the icing sugar(also known as crack cocaine to me) was there. Even the whip cream was light and airy, Joe questioning if it was Cool Whip or something house made. Absolutely loved it! I’ll most definitely be returning to this restaurant when we’re in the mood for something completely different from our usual eats. My favorites: the fried cheese and the banana crêpe. I’ll have to try the steak tartare and roasted duck or goose next time, under«Bistro Specialties» on the menu. Cute, cozy place!
