B’s is a little hole-in-the-wall diner, where if you blink, you will pass it by. They do have a great patio, and all day breakfast like a proper diner should. The portions are huge, you won’t go home hungry. The food we had was decent, as was the service.(Maybe the rest of you just rubbed the poor elderly gentleman the wrong way!) When we visited, the walls were pretty bare for a diner. I am used to seeing walls packed with memorabilia and pictures. Not so much here, but that’s not a bad thing. «B» stands for Brenda. She is the lady behind the name and the food. She has a passion for what she does and it shows. Brenda also likes to give back to her community and has the biggest heart. The Diner has a few awards posted on the wall near the till for things like Chili competitions, she seems to know her way around a kitchen! Brenda runs a place that feels homey. The chalkboards that are done up for the daily specials and the Munchies Menu give the place that extra«a-la-carte» kind of feel. We look forward to going back to support a small business that supports the less fortunate in their community!

I don’t want to tell everyone about B’s, but I need to get the word out. Hands down, the best, biggest, breakfast you will ever have. Everything is made fresh and the food is so yummy, you’ll come back for more. And more. And more. I like to pretend I’m going to get something besides my usual, but when it comes time to order, I always get the perogy plate. Why mess with a good thing? Go to B’s, but don’t tell anyone else, I like having the place to myself.

If you’ve never heard of B’s Diner before, welcome to the club. Located on the east side of the tracks on Whyte, you’ll easily pass their sign if you aren’t looking specifically for it. However, it is definitely worth seeking out. I was shocked/impressed that they have an actual nice, quaint little patio outside to eat and people watch. This would definitely be an awesome little spot in the summer, reminds me of Montréal a little bit. Hidden gem indeeed(just look for Daawat and it is just a bit west of the Indian restaurant). We went on an early Friday for dinner and there were only a couple people inside mulling around. One super easy going lady was working the whole restaurant(waitress, runner, chef) — impressive! Don’t know how she does it when it gets busy but big props to her. They had some chill beats going on in the background, a little hippity hop, which I am always in approval of. We decided to share: — Buta belly ramen burger($ 11.00) — if you’ve never had a ramen burger(my first time!), it’s worth a try. The ramen is cooked so the noodles are soft and tender and stuffed with pork belly, arugula(more like mixed greens), green onions and a spicy Japanese mayo sauce. The sauce had just a hint of spice to it but gave the burger a nice kick to it. It was good but the amount of ramen noodles were a bit overwhelming for me. A bit too much gluten pour moi. — Vietnamese lemongrass pork($ 15.00) — one of their special dishes for the evening. Came with a fried egg, cucumber and tomato garnish, spring rolls and jasmine rice. The spring rolls were dope! I don’t usually brag about how good spring rolls are but these were perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The jasmine rice was disappointing — you need to dump the fish sauce over it to give it any sort of taste. Overall, dish wasn’t bad but wasn’t impressive either. Should have tried the polish potato pancake with schnitzel! Bah. The dish also came with choose between soup(borscht or miso) and salad(just a tossed salad according to our waitress). Easiest choice — BORSCHT all the way. At a diner? Hell’s yeah. The soup was flavourful and full of delicious beet(ness). Mix in the dollop of sour cream and you are golden. — We ended our meal with a complimentary cookie from the chef. How sweet of her! Chocolate chip and chocolate chip with M&M — they were a bit hard but whatever, they were free. Will have to come back to try out their Polish dishes! Perogies for sure next time. Dingy but interesting hole in the wall diner that is worth a try.

I’ve given this place a few chances, but I just can’t stop hating it with a burning passion. The food is bad, not greasy spoon bad, just plain gross. Not actually that cheap either. Pay an extra two dollars for your breakfast and go to Friends and Neighbours for something actually edible. The service is bad. It’s usually the owner who is just plain rude. People who defend this place usually say things like«oh they do so much for local charities» which is nice and all but it really can’t save this place for me.

This is a great family run place. Food is always great, service is hilarious. «dinner and a show» If you take yourself to seriously this may not be the place for you. Wonderful greasy spoon kind of place, you can tell they believe in the community and always have different events listed going on. From the chili cook offs, all you can eat spaghetti, to the donations for children’s lunches. The pictures painted and placed on the wall by the till by kids saying thank you, should say that these people actually care about what’s happening around their business. I am person who loves home made soup and they have not let me down yet in this department from dill pickle, cabbage roll, borsch, hamburger are just some of the variety they have. They cater to many different groups of dietary needs and preferences as well. Defiantly a place I will make a constant in my breakfast outings for sure!

Enter at your own risk! I was seriously disappointed with my Saturday breakfast visit. First off, my food. Ordered the most popular dish which was perogie breakfast. I asked for eggs over easy and got scrambled. The eggs glistened with flap top grease. Scrambled eggs should NEVER be greasy. 4 sausages which were over cooked then split length wise and over cooked again. This is usually a sign that they cook a massive amount of sausage then reheat it on the flat top. Perogies were cheap store boughts, for a heavily Ukrainian populated city there is no excuse to serve Cheemo’s in a resturaunt. Coffee– Do they even have Fu**ing filters. I was chewing on grounds so much it was a work out. When I ran out of coffee I had to ask for a refill because the owner /server wasn’t paying attention. After 15 minutes I had to ask again because he forgot. After I left I was sick to my stomach from cheap grease. Sidenote: The owner/server had to borrow a pen and disturb the table beside because he forgot to bring one to take the order. I ate alone so it was easy to observe what was going on around me. The table across had 6 people and 2 orders were completely forgotten. The owner interupted there meal/conversation several times to discuss whatever was on his mind. The décor is cheap and familiar of a hospital cafeteria . Upon arrival I waited 10 minutes while I watched the owner having a conversation with a friend. I was seated when his friend left. Not exactly business minded. This place needs serving staff, new kitchen staff, décor, and management. I suggest visiting after its sold and completely overhauled.

I have passed by B’s Diner countless times and finally stopped in for breakfast on Saturday morning. I noticed the place was nearly empty. I didn’t care — it was hot out and air conditioned inside. The huge menu is full of breakfast choices and other pages of typical diner fare. I had the tofu scramble which was huge — for $ 7 the portion was absolutely massive, along with its accompanying toast and hash browns. Although I am reading here that there have been problems with the service, I found everyone to be friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Three of us ordered and the food was appalling. Service is nonexistent. We came here because Route99 had a lineup and I can see why B’s was pretty much empty. If you ever think to yourself«hmmmm I should try out B’s on Whyte» — immediately punch yourself in the face and go get a week old egg salad sandwich from a gas station. You’ll have a much more enjoyable dining experience. B’s Diner is a hot wheel of garbage.

I appreciate small local businesses and family owned restaurants like B’s diner. Situated on Whyte Ave, it has a great location that wasn’t too busy on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. The portions are huge and the food is excellent. It’s definitely not a trendy place by any means… But what it lacks in décor it makes up for with a good meal at a fair price. What ruined my experience here at B’s Diner was the service. You know how there are those restaurants that serve great food but the servers are assholes to you on purpose for shits and giggles??? That could be this place, except I don’t think that gimmick was intentional. I think we were served by the owner. At first, he was a cute but slightly grumpy old man who says it like it is. It started off with lots of giggles from my girlfriends… But by the time our bill was paid, we all left in a bad mood. I ordered the wild berry stuffed French toast. It was a breakfast special, and went for approximately $ 16. This consisted of 2 French toast sandwiches with cream cheese and wild berry filling. Awesome. When the server first put it down on the table in front of me, the owner came running up and snatched it away from me yelling to the guy who made it that he forgot to top it with sugar and whipped cream. I hadn’t noticed, so I appreciated the quality control… But then when it was brought back to me, the owner ranted about the«assholes» in the kitchen… And there were families here. Swearing should probably have been kept to a minimum in front of small children. As someone who’s worked a lot of shitty jobs, I felt bad for his staff. To think that these people give him their time and in turn are treated so poorly is unacceptable. Obviously, they get paid and should do their job right… But I don’t think anyone deserves to be called names to strangers because they made a simple mistake that was easy to fix. I thought that was rude and lacked class. It was not okay with me, no one should be treated that way and that’s why HR departments exist. Unfortunately, no such thing is probably available to the staff at such a small business. Too bad… Then, when we went to pay, he totalled up our bill at the cash and told us the number. We’d been planning to each pay for our own meals… So tried asking how much we each owed individually. We hadn’t really been paying attention to the prices so when my friend tried to verbally work out how much she owed by listing off the prices, the owner didn’t understand what she was trying to ask and took it as she was trying to argue the prices with him. And then she explained no no! She’s just asking how much each bill was so that we can each pay our own fare. He didn’t get it, and attacked her personally saying it made him feel uncomfortable what she was doing. All of this could have been made simpler if we were presented with a tab at the end of our visit that outlined what we ordered and how much it cost… But they do no such thing here. Then, when it was my turn to pay, he told me my total which was $ 18-something so I gave him a $ 20 plus $ 2 for a tip. He wouldn’t take my toonie which was awkward because I was like… Giving him his tip and he wouldn’t take it. So I just dropped it in their school lunch fund jar. Then, he told me that he hates when people argue with him about the bill. Don’t talk shit about my friends to me, because guess who’s side I’m going to take… I didn’t even acknowledge what he was saying because this was clearly a misunderstanding, or some kind of language barrier. My biggest pet peeve in life is when people are ignorant towards others because they don’t even try to understand the problem. A huge part of customer service is communication with your customers… And there was a complete lack of ability here. My friend was really upset afterwards and this didn’t have to happen. So not only was he a total jerk about his staff… He was so rude to his customer, and none of that was necessary. Even though the food was awesome and this place is in an awesome location… I don’t know if I’ll ever come back because it was a total buzzkill and I wouldn’t want to have to deal with the owner again.

Fantastic brunch joint and worth a visit. Portions are sized well and as someone who recently moved to Edmonton and was dismayed at the lack of independent restaurants with reasonable pricing, this was a treat!

Nice little hole-in-the-wall place. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries and gravy. Good food, albeit overly salty and I thought the gravy was included with the fries(it was not). The owner(he was serving us) smelled a little boozy, though… not sure how I feel about that. Also, I see no reason why he takes cash only. Everyone should offer debit and credit card in this day and age.

We had both dinner and breakfast here this week. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. Could have done without the tv on, but the food was so good that I didn’t deduct any points for that. Very casual atmosphere, but clean and the service is prompt.

So welcoming! Delicious food served quickly by very friendly staff. The décor is simple, but the place is clean and uncluttered. The mushroom burger I had was LOADED with mushrooms(as promised) on a hand made burger patty. Plenty of fresh veg on the burger and a lovely side salad. No pre-made salad mix salads, honest-to-goodness real freshly washed and ripped lettuce. Yum.

B’s Diner doesn’t actually have parking out back! We had to park over in the A&W lot, but it was worth it. Huge portions — as in I won’t be hungry for awhile now — and good food it was definitely worth stopping in. It may be our new stop when in Edmonton for breakfast and lunch.

Went in not knowing what to expect and ordered up a tofu stirfry breakfast. The coffee although endless was not very good as other people have pointed out. The service was great and freindly, however the breakfast although with good portions was a little bland. Over all a OK breakfast in a good place, we might be back next time in town, but we are more likely to try another place.

B’s Diner serves high quality, well prepared diner food. They make their own perogies and use real potatoes for hash browns and fries. They use a delicious, thickly cut and fairly dense wheat bread for sandwiches and toast. I greatly enjoyed my breakfast — spicy bison sausage(inferno), fried with onions, served with two poached eggs, toast and hash browns. The hash browns were not as brown as I generally like, but I figure I can ask for them well done next time. And for vegetarians, like Sarah(my wife), there’s an entire vegetarian section of the menu. You can also put together your own Eggs Benedict concoction. For vegans, they serve a Tofu Scramble. There are a number of Eastern European and Asian accents on the menu due to the ethnicities of the owners. There’s some great local art on the walls, which I believe is for sale. Otherwise, the décor is minimalistic, but pleasant. I imagine that eating here will be nice in the summertime, when we can take advantage of a sizable patio. One caveat with B’s is that they only accept cash as payment — they don’t even accept Interac. There’s a cash machine in the back of the restaurant if you haven’t brought any, but you’ll be charged $ 2 plus whatever your bank may charge. No matter what, the prices are reasonable considering both the quality and the cost of the food you are ordering.

B’s Diner is deep Edmonton. It’s a breakfast diner, soup kitchen for the poor, and it’s own life form with possibly one of the most fascinating cast of employees. Need cream for your coffee? Get it yourself from the cooler, just like you would in your Baba’s kitchen. I love B’s and will support it with every drop of my pure Edmontonian blood.

This place is a little harder to find but worth the hunt. B’s Diner is a little hole-in-the-wall joint populated by neat antiques, funny posters, and the warmth and personality of their staff. They do incredible work in the community and they are worth supporting. If you are looking for an affordable meal or are looking to have a hearty bite at somewhere chill– this is your spot. It’s got that great diner feel and the personality is all in the food. I think part of the fun is the people-watching at this joint. Whyte ave bar staff the morning after, hipsters, musicians– never a dull moment. I’ve heard the Elk sausage and perogie poutine is amazing, but I’ve yet to try it.
