I come here occasionally for the beef brisket lo mein almost exclusively. This is the only restaurant i’ve been in to have it so i have no other place to compare it to . I really like it though. The restaurant itself is fairly large with a tv on the wall always showing asian programs and a rack of chinese magazines on your way in. Service is good and the setup is comfortable. Only issue is the ‘cash only’ policy which has made me leave a couple times cause i keep forgetting. I wonder if what they save in bank fees is worth the business they lose.

Best wonton soup in my life. I live in Calgary now but take atleast 2 to go home with me almost every time I’m back in Edmonton. The only problem is that I can’t find anything even close to this good for wonton soup so I’m constantly disappointed. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Closed until August 26. Just made a long drive on a recommendation and Unilocal showed it as open. I’ll be back then and give a proper review. The one star is because it showed as open on Unilocal.Wonder if it could have been updated by the owner.

Yummy«hole in the wall» kind of restaurant. It’s located in a strip mall along Stony Plain road. A big thing to know is that they only accept cash. Not sure where the nearest cash machine is located, so this can end up being a problem, if you don’t know this ahead of time. My uncle brought our family, after eating here with his golfing buddies. He wasn’t sure if the chicken tasted good, or if he was just so hungry that he thought it was good. In particular, he enjoyed the fried chicken. The chicken is moist, with crispy skin and it has green onion soy sauce. So delicious! The key to ordering the fried chicken, is that the restaurant needs 30 min to cook it. So if you’re in a time crunch, or have little patience waiting, it’s probably a good idea to phone ahead and order a fried chicken. Overall, the food is tasty and pretty affordable. For seven of us the bill was around $ 86 before tip. We ordered two orders of fried chicken, seafood chow mein, barbecue pork fried rice, deep fried shrimp with mayonnaise, and dried pork ribs. We also had leftovers. There are signs saying you are free to help yourself to the styrofoam takeout containers to pack your own leftovers. There’s a shelf with containers and plastic bags, at the back of the restaurant. This place is very unassuming. Very humble décor. You can tell the food is popular, by the constant influx of groups of people who come here to eat. Worth trying.

Great Chinese food. We tried the won ton soup and order some noodles. Everything was very tasty and just like you would get in China. I would recommend you pick items as opposed to ordering combination dinners a lot lore authenticate Chinese food. Gets my thumbs up. The décor is so so. But it’s a good value and great tasting for Chinese food.

A diamond in the rough! Dan Shing offers fresh and delicious foods for great prices. It is plain and certainly nothing fancy, but it appears clean and the staff remember customers, which is always nice. I like the laid back atmosphere, and being able grab out own take out containers and bags when it’s time to leave. We love the sweet and sour pork, spicy deep fried squid, and my absolute favorite is the shrimp and pork dumpling soup! Note: They don’t take credit and debit. cash only! In 2015? :-)

A colleague dragged me kicking and screaming to this noodle joint, she couldn’t believe that I have never been to this Dan Shing despite it being there for decades; what can I say, I lead a sheltered life. First impression was good, we were greeted promptly, sat immediately. The complimentary tea came almost instantly and multiple servers were there as soon as we closed our menus; the service here is faster than any fastfood restaurant I have ever been. The décor was interesting to say the least. Sprinkled throughout the restaurant are these blue fabric mounted chairs and benches, wood veneered tables, salmon coloured walls and yellowy cream spindled booth dividers. I honestly believe that an interior design consultant was not consulted when this restaurant was built, or the consultant was colour blinded. Having said the above, the most important thing is that everything is clean, all of the tables, chairs even the carpet were clean; definitely above average for an Asian restaurant. We ordered a few dishes and most of them were good, very good actually: Beef brisket/tendon lo mein — good but not great. The brisket was cooked nice saucy and tender. The tendons was disappointingly chewy. I could tell that the tendons were added in late for the dish, not so good. Combined all that with some limp tasteless boiled lettuce, this is a mediocre dish at best. Dry fried beef hor fun — my good old standby. Came fantastically hot and fresh. The dish definitely carried with it that fantastic Chinese«wok hei» aroma when it arrived. Two thumbs up! Shredded pork chow mein — The noodles were supremely crispy(deep fried type of crispy) and the saucy topping of pork and bean sprouts were good with just the right amount of seasoning in it. Salt and spicy deep fried pork chops — wow, superb! Came«it will burn your mouth» hot with a spicy kick — the good kind. The best thing we ate the entire meal. Two thumbs up and two toes up! I highly recommend this place for super casual noodle meals with good friends. Is this a good place to take a lady on a first date, no, it is still a bit of a dive BUT everything is clean! Also, judging from the menu, I would classify this place as a noodle joint, probably not the best place if you want formal fancy dining. If you have the munchies and want that noodle fix, yes come here. The ladies who work here are fast friendly and fantastic. One big warning, Dan Shing is «cash only»; at about $ 10-$ 15 a dish, a Dan Shing meal won’t cost a lot but make sure you bring enough.

This small restaurant in the westend has been around for a while but nothing made me want to go try it out until recently since my parents saw some advertisement. I definitely have not been missing out! The décor needs updating and a new paint job but the chairs all seems newer so it was comfortable. My mom and I arrived around 6:45 for dinner, we were seated immediately. There were only two waitresses working and seemed to be having a hard time keeping up with the service. The restaurant was only half full but there were take-out orders with people coming in and out. One waitress was at the front collecting money from people, taking/getting take-out orders and cleaning tables. The other was bringing food from the kitchen, taking orders and very cranky. We had to ask her for a teapot of hot water three times and our food arrived after 40 minutes. We ordered the beef brisket and tendon hotpot and tofu and assorted meat hotpot with steamed rice. The prices were reasonable and the portions were large but just tasted okay. While eating, we saw a customer return for a second time for his take-out order which was still not ready! He seemed angry and told the waitress they said 25 minutes. She did apologize and went into the kitchen and came out with his order. There was a larger group of family members who came in after 7:30 who must have pre-ordered their food since they got their food before mine. There were a few kids at the table who asked for more rice and the waitress shouted«okay, last time». I wondered what that was about since they were customers who was going to pay for the food! Unless you have a lot of time to wait around for food while trying to keep your self entertained, I don’t suggest eating here.

Dan Shing Restaurant hasn’t changed the look of its dining room in at least 15 years, the retro wood framing looks the some as it did when I was a kid and that’s probably a good thing since it means they clean it, right? I went on a strangely busy night in the middle of the week, there was one waitress there running the whole restaurant and what looked like 50 customers or 12 tables. I couldn’t blame her for not being a frequent visitor to the table or being quick with bringing things to the table. As a kid, I didn’t remember the food being very good but this trip around, it was nice. The soup dumplings and noodles were fantastic — the shrimp inside were cooked perfectly so they popped instead of smushed. The beef phở and curry shrimp were good as well despite not being«Chinese» cuisine. The prices were on good side of Chinese food. There’s nothing special about any of the restaurants that line up on Stony Plain Rd but Dan Shing is the best of the bunch. I could be fooled though, maybe the table-side hot chilli oil that I went a little overboard with blinded my tastebuds.

I tried to order something a little more authentic, but was persuaded by the waitress to go for something typically ordered by whitey. Man, Chinese restaurants in Edmonton have to start making more authentic dishes available to non-Chinese customers. The food was acceptable, but it wasn’t outstanding. I doubt that I will make a return visit.

Best value in the West-end. Everything we’ve had over the years have tasted great. Combo dinners are usually good for 50% more people than stated.

Where do 3 guys and a baby girl go to eat dinner on a Friday night. We go dancing at Dan Shing! Ok… maybe not dancing, but definitely feasting at this fave place of ours. A little history about this place, when we were bachelors, we would come to this place as it was our place to go to after clubbing. The chinese food was so good. You know, anything tastes so good while you are under the influence. So this was the order for Friday night. 2 Long Donut Rice Rolls Salted Fish Fried Rice BBQ pork Fried Rice Boneless Sweet & Sour Pork, no vegetables Black Bean Spare Rib ChowMein Wor Won Ton Soup(Never Came) So the soup never came… but that was ok… we still had lots of food. We were not able to finish. But definitely going there that night brought back some good memories. Sometimes the service or the food doesn’t matter just the memories of good eats and company…
