Great service and great food. The omelet was awesome

Small, cute restaurant with a homey feel to it. I went for brunch with a group of 15, and despite the business of the restaurant, our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the wait times for drinks and food was okay. The reason I am giving 3 stars, was the food was just okay. The quiche sounded amazing, but in my opinion turned out only average. The side potatoes were not very flavourful. It’s not that I wouldn’t go back, it’s just that given all the other average brunch spots in the city, I don’t know if I’d choose this one.

I went for brunch this last Saturday and it was packed. Small line ups from time to time but I didn’t feel rushed or anything but. I would maybe shrink the giant hostess booth for more open area there by the door as a suggestion. But the food was fantastic. Had the Alaskan eggs Bennie which were the best I’ve had in the city for sure. Excellent sauce and the crab meat was good. Nice it comes with a side of fruit and hash browns which weren’t amazing but we’re ok. Fruit was God and fresh tho. Service was great even though it was packed and is certain go back and recommend it as well.

I love that breakfast is available any morning. The bennies are consistently good in my experience, the potatoes real and crisp, the fruit cups fresh, the tea brewed in a pot when served(no brewing In a mug of tepid water). Just a really, really nice place to end a weekend with guests on the way out to the airport on a Monday morning.

Had an amazing spinach feta tomato omelette here! Great coffee too. Cozy spot! Will be back.

Having had breakfast here on several occasions, I do recommend this place for brunch. Their service is usually spot on, and the food generally consistently good. My friends and I went here on Sunday for brunch, and all the above were true, the reason I’m giving 4 stars only is because the quantity of hashbrown potatoes that came with all our orders was absolutely minimal compared to previous times. The server seemed annoyed at our request for extra potatoes and initially asked us if we wanted to purchase a side order of potatoes, but she eventually decided to bring us a side order to share. On a brighter note, the freshly squeezed orange juice is the best in the city — bar none. Try it out!

The reviews on the Glenora Bistro indicate it is a bit of a brunch/breakfast favourite, but I happened to experience dinner instead. The environment is really welcoming, and offered a cosy dining ambiance. Food was very tasty — I had the cold salad plate with potato salad, green salad, salmon and chicken, which to me is a pretty perfect(albiet simple) combination. Service was a bit slow, but I think they were light on staff. Being that we weren’t really in a rush, we didn’t see this as a problem.

I echo the previous comment about places like Glenora Bistro seemingly being oddly pretentious, with menus that sound elevated and thoughtful, but fail to deliver. The Alaskan Benedict(while on the menu as «King Crab») doesn’t reach the title it aspires to. Hollandaise wasn’t seasoned, the potatoes were deep fried, the English muffin was fried instead of toasted, and the asparagus was overcooked. The dish just didn’t come together for me. My guest had traditional Benedict, and was similarly underwhelmed. For a $ 70 brunch for 2 people, I’d rather go elsewhere and will do so in the future.

I don’t normally go to restaurants like this anymore. I find them pretentious. The menus are small and despite the menagerie of expensive ingredients and overuse of herbs and spices many times the food comes out tasting pedestrian. Like the chef was trying too hard. I’m happy to report, this lunch was better than most. I had lox and bagel, a nice safe favorite of mine, and my husband had a BLT sandwich on black rye with Gruyère cheese and mixed greens instead of lettuce.(See what I mean? Can’t just have an ordinary BLT) We both ordered the soup which was some kind of goulash – neither of us caught the full name of it. I liked my sandwich, and my husband said his was good too, but the real star was the soup. It was robust in flavor and texture, with just enough kick that the heat didn’t overpower the beefy tomato taste. Very good and filling. I feel like I’m being a little bit unfair, giving this restaurant only a three, especially since the service was good too, but this place has never really measured up to a four for me. It is still a very firm 3.5.

Anytime I mention wandering around downtown Edmonton to my mother on the phone she always without fail asks me if I spent any time in Glenora. She lived and worked in the area as a young woman so when I am downtown I make a genuine effort to visit the area and invest some of my money into the local businesses so we can swap stories and compare the changes that have taken place over the years. I decided to stop in for lunch at the Glenora Bistro today and had probably one of the best experiences I have had eating out in quite some time. The décor and menu at the Glenora are simple and comforting. You won’t find any Asian fusion or dance music down here… just good food and nice people. The lady serving me was very welcoming when she found out I was a first time customer and offered lots of great personal recommendations from the menu. I went with the Bison burger which was unbelievably delicious. The patty was so thick and juicy and the toppings were super fresh. This doesn’t look like the kind of place that would offer a great burger but after one bite I had literally achieved burger nirvana. If you are in the area it would be a crime not to check this place out at least once.

One of the coldest days of the year so far, but Allan G and I still love our breakfast/brunch on the weekends. And we’re constantly sampling new options(or options that have been around for a while that we haven’t made it to yet). The Glenora is charming and cozy, nestled under a bed and breakfast. On the day we were there, we had to order coffee merely to warm our hands up. It was good, but not great. Al is a coffee snob, but I thought it was perfectly adequate. I had planned on ordering a benny, but they had a quiche special with shrimp, asparagus and jalapeño jack cheese, so I got that instead. It was good. Steaming hot, with nice flaky pastry, light and buttery, and a side of fruit salad that(thankfully) wasn’t completely composed of melon, which I can’t stand. Al got a frittata with kielbasa and some other stuff, and said it was good. It would have been nice to linger over more coffee, but we had errands to run. It’ll be filed away on our list of future places to visit(ones that open early!)

I love the Glenora. It is quiet, unpretentious and the eggs benedict is delicious(I love that they have so many varieties) The atmosphere is great for one of those chilly fall mornings with one of your friends at the start of a girls day. I am actually heading there tomorrow morning for eggs benny :)

Service personnel very friendly and not overly intrusive but when needed they were at the table to do the job. As for the food, we had cream of spinach soup which was very tasty. Also had quiche that was as good as it gets and for desert, a very lovely fresh fruit crêpe. The price for two with tip came to $ 50.00. I was very happy with this quaint little bistro and will definitely plan to return.

As I learned yesterday, very few brunch places are open at 9AM on a Thursday in Edmonton. Or, fewer than I thought would be. After my Plan A and Plan B for a birthday brunch fell through, a drive to 124th Street seemed like the appropriate remedy for the situation. That’s when we discovered a bright beacon of light to save us — the«OPEN» sign at Glenora Bistro. Hallelujah! It was a group of three of us at one table, and only one other table filled in the restaurant. I suppose that makes sense — it was 9AM on a Thursday in January, after all. The brunch menu is small. I’m not a lox fan(although my husband said his was wonderful) but my french toast with strawberries was quite decadent indeed. The toast was superb, the potatoes were a welcome surprise, and the fruit cup was fresh. The only letdown was the bowl of strawberries. It was kind of like a strawberry jam, but like, halfway between strawberries and halfway between jam. I know, that’s a terrible description. I just mean, they weren’t fresh strawberries — but still tasty. Our server was excellent and very polite. I’ll be visiting the GB again just for the service alone, I’m sure. It would be nice to visit on a weekend when the place is a bit busier so it’s a little bit less… uncomfortable? We picked a table next to the heater, which worked out very well. As a gal who is perpetually cold, I was one happy, warm and full birthday girl after brunch at Glenora Bistro!

This is my favourite spot for visits with my dad when he’s in town and wants to go for breakfast at 7:30am… around that time on a weekday, most other options near downtown are either fast-food or Denny’s-ish sit down places. So the Glenora Bistro wins, no contest. I can’t speak for the dinner menu, but their breakfast and lunch is excellent and available until mid-afternoon. My favourite is the eggs benedict with crab and asparagus, but everything else I’ve tried has been good too. The service here is friendly and fast, and my coffee and water are frequently refilled. The décor here is simple, and the place feels nice enough to impress my snooty great-aunt, but casual enough to go in jeans.

A — List. Recommended. Four breakfast visits later, the food and service is still on the mark. The egg creations are excellent in form and taste. The preserves are delicious. I enjoyed the spuds as well. The coffee and tea is excellent. Throw in a complimentary newspaper while enjoying your breakfast and this is a great place to start your day. If you are looking for a smaller place with old world charm to enjoy good food and conversation, the Bistro may be what you are looking for. This is a unique place with very good food and reliable service.

This place is pretty lame. It has gone through a couple renovations and it still is pretty mediocre. I’ve only ever had brunch here, and we have only come here because Café DeVille was packed. It is usually pretty quiet in the tiny restaurant which is never a good sign. The atmosphere here is kind of like a grandmothers basement. Doilies and bad window coverings and such… The last time we were here I had the eggs benedict and it was okay. Nothing to write home about, that is for sure. Our waiter was not very attentive. I ran out of coffee more than once, which is a huge no-no for me for brunch. I wouldn’t avoid this place, but I will not go out of way to return either. It just sort of bores me.

Another ho-hum Edmonton dining experience. Maybe I’m spoiled with our limitless brunch options in Vancouver, but the Glenora Bistro, while tasty enough, was nothing to write home about. The bistro is tucked away in a nice neighborhood and the atmosphere felt formal for the menu. There were limited options for a breakfast or lunch type meal. Two of my companions had the fritata and were pleased with the dish — nicely cooked eggs with sausage and veggies, but the potatoes were quite underdone. I had a salad and soup. The soup was on the bland side and the salad was fresh, but unremarkable. All in all, I’d probably vote to try another place next time I’m looking for brunch in Edmonton, but there was definitely nothing negative about this place. A nice meal if you’re in the area, but don’t go out of your way.

Glenora Bistro is located on the ground floor of an historic Bed & Breakfast Inn in the High Street Area. The décor is sparse and unpretentious, with simple tables. Unpretentious is also a good way to describe the menu. Focusing on light, reasonably priced priced breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, Glenora Bistro is a popular place for weekend brunch. Breakfast and lunch items are available until 2:30 p.m. Breakfast includes french toast, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and onion, a vegetarian omelette with feta, eggs benedict, and a granols fruit bowl. When served around lunch time, meals come with a bowl of fruit and potatoes — sliced, pan-fried, with a hint of cayenne. Lunches include a half sandwich and soup, coq au vin made with free-range chicken, a seasonal fish dish, quiches, and an Angus steak sandwich. Most meals come with vegetables, and rice or potatoes. Dinner is similar to lunch, with larger portions, served after 5 p.m. I decided to go for the coq au vin — I have never had the dish before, and it is a classic of regional cuisine. I was brought two small pieces of dark meat that tasted unremarkable, save for the creamy wine sauce and mushrooms which smothered it. A few steamed veggies included baby bok choy and asparagus, and the potatoes would have been better without the cayenne, which did nothing for the flavour except give it an overly hot kick that did not fit with the rest of the meal. A small basket of crusty French bread was also brought, to absorb the plentiful sauce. The other member of my party decided to go for one of the daily specials, which was a quiche made with chicken. He opted for the bowl of fruit and potatoes over the salad, as the side. The ample slice of quiche looked like it was full of chicken and had a crisp, thick bottom crust. However, he commented that it tasted as though a lot of chicken gravy had been added to the mix, so that the taste of the cheese was almost drowned out. As well, he agreed that the potatoes did not really suit the meal. Coffee and refills were plentiful and fresh. In general, the service was excellent. Prices range from $ 8-$ 9 for some of the breakfast items to around $ 15 on average for lunch, and upwards for dinner. While I was not blown away by the food here — considering one of the owners is also the owner of Normands on Jasper Avenue — I would return to try a different meal. And request my potatoes be made without the spice!
