Growing up on a Cree reservation and living over 7 years in the Yukon, imagine my surprise when I found out that Halford Hide and Leather Company Ltd is the only place in Calgary to buy genuine hides and furs.
The location is a little out of the way but the distance in driving is soon compensated by the two very friendly dogs that greet you at the door.
Service was very fast, and what I needed was found very quickly with much help from the woman working there. There are furs made out of seal, goat, calf, beaver, rabbit and cow. There are also tanned hides to choose from and all the accessories you need to work with leather. I was able to pick up a 3 foot by 3 foot calf hide for around $ 60.
The line up of motorcycle jackets and pants spoke of leather repair and alterations and I believe Halford also does custom leather work.
Although Halford Hide is a bit of a hide; the prices are reasonable, and a catalogue is also available for the Calgary and Edmonton location.
