Fuckin Garbage … Went there many times just to try their papaitan and they always say that they dont have it available try tomorrow, went there again the other day same answer nothing. the bad thing about it, is to let you wait for half hour and make you hungrier so you can order their greasy foods

Looking for fine Filipino food? Kamayan is totally one of the restaurants to dine for! They don’t take cards though so if you want to eat here you got to pay them with cash. Been here a couple of times and I still like to go back and eat here.

I decided to check out this place because of the review I read. I greatly regret going to Kamayan Sa Lucena. I do not recommend this place… unless you speak Tagalog! I come from a Filipino family but we speak a different dialect. I found it difficult to get someone to serve my Nanay and myself… all we wanted to do was order some food to take out. This proved to be a difficult task. We walked in and no one acknowledged us, I had to find a menu on my own. Once we decided on what to order, I had to figure out who actually worked there to place my order. They were busy w/a large group of people and other tables were full w/customers as well but I definitely thought this place was«lacking» service. The prices for the food were quite good & I was pleasantly surprised w/how little I had to pay for all the food we ordered. The food was ok but because my experience was not one I would like to encounter again, I will probably not go back here again.

UPDATE: I read the follow up review for this, and would like to apologize to all of the foodie friends out there if I have mistakenly mislead you. I have updated my review to reflect some details which I had previously left out(not deliberately). —– If you’re looking for a restaurant with a nice cozy atmosphere then you don’t want to choose Kamayan Sa Lucena. The place has quite literally no atmosphere whatsoever. No pictures on the wall. Furniture from Ikea. And folding tables/chairs for when the place gets too full. Believe me when I say it’s not pretty and not what you’d expect for a typical restaurant. There is no person standing at the door to greet you. There’s no dress code, and you’ll feel a very cold draft as people enter/leave the restaurant if you go there in the winter. You won’t be able to tell the restaurant staff from the other patrons as they don’t wear uniforms of any kind. The service will suck. NOCREDITCARDS, NOTEVENDEBIT. They only take cash. If you forget cash, you will have to go next door to the Mac’s store and withdraw from the machine. Consider yourself warned. Now, all that aside, if you’re looking for excellent tasting authentic Filipino food then this would be your best bet! Out of all the Filipino restaurants I have been to, Kamayan serves it up exactly to what I have experience in the Philippines. What Kamayan loses out on in atmosphere they make up on with great food and really great prices. I’ve been to the Philippines twice and it’s nice to have a place in Edmonton that serves the same authentic Filipino cuisine. Their Sisig is absolutely delicious as well as their Calamares and Chicharon Bulaklak! For those Ilocanos out there I highly recommend their Papaitan, and the Bicol Express is really amazing for those Visayans. The word is out, despite it’s short comings I still highly recommend going here as your palate will not be disappointed! It’s a young restaurant but I think the Filipino community will absolutely love dining here.
