So I have to say… things are getting even better at MacTaggert’s! The MNF night is now ripe with sports memorabilia to win(come on, we all love winning stuff!!), and they have scored some waitresses that are industry veterans! Brava. Also, the menu has just been reworked… 4 different types of poutin?! Hello! This past Monday my table and I had the nacho platter with chicken, wow, it was huge, 5 of us dug in and devoured the cheesy, chicken covered mound that had lots of veggie toppings and super good spicy salsa as well. It’s always fairly busy, so there is a good atmosphere(I hate going to watch a game someplace and it is dead, no fun!). The games are always loud so you can hear the commentators, but not too loud that you can’t berate your buddy when his team drops the(literal) ball!

Came here based on a tip. The building is located on its own, slightly away but still part of a strip mall. Parking is quite plentiful here. The interior is Irish themed for sure, but contains a lot of sports memorabilia(especially Oilers stuff). There is a large(oldschool) projector showing sports at the back of one wall. The bar area looks pretty cool too, with lots of dark wood. The staff are all showing their midriffs. This must be their claim to fame. One food item that stuck out was the dill pickle wings. I can’t say I’ve seen this anywhere else. They’re a bit pricey at $ 10 for just 7(!?), but the wings are bit larger than other places, and the flavouring is quite good. I also had their 16oz T-bone steak, which is actually quite decent. You can’t beat the price at $ 24. My one biggest complaint though are the flies. There were several buzzing around my table throughout the entire night. Overall it was a good time.

A couple friends and I went to this pub for the first time because none of us had been there before and when we walked in it wasn’t too busy but there were a lot of tables full, of men, obviously. But it felt really uncomfortable to be there to be honest. The waitresses looked miserable and just seeing the men oggle them was kind of disturbing. I’m sure that’s why there are only men there. Anyway, the service was O.K. Our waitress didn’t come around much after we ordered one beer. Took about 20 mins before she came back to take our order and get us some more drinks. The food was sub-par. It took another 45 mins to get to our table, and I just ordered beef dip because well, I’m not sure I’ve ever had beef dip that wasn’t good. This one on the other hand was pretty bad, I couldn’t even finish it. Everyone else’s food was pretty plain, nobody really complained but they didn’t say anything good about the food either! I’ll probably never go back to this pub.

It pains me to have to give this place a 2 out of 5. The concept is great but the execution is poor. The billiard hall side is what I have the most experience with, as I used to run a weekly tournament there for a few months when it was first opened. Staffing difficulties including management changes and inconsistent operating hours ultimately led to the demise of the tournament at the Kilt. It’s a shame because the billiard equipment is UNMATCHED in Edmonton. With 4 Black Crown II9′ tables featuring Simonis 860 cloth, there is no other billiard hall with good food and drink that compares. There are a bunch of dart boards now too and with summer coming up the patio is sure to be packed. Service can be sub par at times but there are a couple of gems in the rough with great customer service skills that keep our office coming back when we are entertaining clients or just celebrating a good month amongst ourselves. The ladies are always eye catching, no doubt about that and if you look them in the eyes when you talk to them you might be suprised at how their attitude changes. I know they are probably trained to chat up clients in order to maximize their tips, but for us in the customer service industry, service is king and is what your tip is based on, your performance. Things are steadily improving though, ownership is receptive to feedback which we also find important!

So yes I am a women, but I tend to do many business lunches with men as I am in a male dominated business. I do think the outfits are a bit scandelous, but hey they choose to wear it. It is much like the hooters outfit, just less in the middle. I do think if you are going to be a waitress at this establishment, at least OWNIT. Act like you want to be there, dressed like that and have some personality to go with the body. I only say this as all these girls seem like they are almost embarressed to be working there, they don’t make eye contact to anyone(even me or the guys at my table) and are horrid at any customer service skills. I know you are not going there to have great service, but I would rather go to Hooters and get a friendly and attractive girl serve me!!! Don’t even get me started on the food, it is definatley not a place to go to eat. I would say drink and have some wings, check out the view but sadly that is all that it is worth! P.S –Girls like to look at pretty women too, but we prefer a glimspe of a personality to go with your looks :)
