Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but… I went by to check

I like Morse Code. I’ve always found cute hats here, and the girls who own and run the shop are fashion designers themselves. A lot in the back of the store is made in house, or by other local designers. It’s pretty edgy, hip stuff, and not really my style, but if I dressed up more and wore my Lululemon pants less, I might dress like this. Lots of irregular hemlines, light, flowing materials, short cropped jackets, hip-hugging and torso accentuating going on here. There are also a lot of funky designer threads, cool jackets, shirts, denim, vests, dresses, etc. It’s not hard to find at least one good deal, whether it’s a purse or earrings, a pair of sunglasses or a new hat or scarf. This and Colourblind are two of my faves on the Whyte Ave. strip. And if you’re into vintage, there’s some pretty wild stuff here also. They do a great job on shop décor. It’s always funky looking and seasonal.

I love the fact that Morse Code is an independent, Edmonton-based store, and I used to think this store was pretty cool and unique. But I was in Morse Code the other day, and I was a little dissapointed. When I was here over a year ago, I was left with a good impression. There were lots of unique, funky dresses and cool little bags that weren’t too pricey. I got a cute, cotton handbag here, which I still love and actually use as a stylish lunch bag. I was excited to come back here, because I thought I might find something really cool again, but I didn’t see anything that unique or funky this time. I liked that they had some good brand named for a fraction of the price, but most of the clothing seemed pretty plain to me. The vintage clothes were in very good condition, but again, nothing really caught my eye. There are some neat items near the front of the store, including stylish purses and punky sneakers. I also saw a colourful spiky wig. I would love to wear a wig like that every day.

Morse Code has something to suit any style, from punk/rock to classic chic. In front they have funky dresses and graphic rock T-shirts, a bit similar to what you might see at Mars & Venus down the street. I thought their bags and wallets were pretty cute, but the bags were a little pricey. In the back is where they keep all their vintage items. Here, you can find something for any age. It’s all colour-coded and organized by size too, so you can browse by colour and your own size. These pieces are much more affordable, and it’s easy to find a Diesel skirt or Banana Republic sweater for a bargain price. They also have 80’s style jewelry available, if you like to adorn yourself with atypical bling. Owner Kimberly Rosadiuk also does on-the-spot alteration services, if you’re in need of some tailoring. It’s pretty convenient if you get something there that is a steal, but it doesn’t quite fit right. If you’re into the kind of bargain shopping that requires sorting and patience, you should check out Morse Code.

This is an interesting sort of fusion shop. It incorporates unique designs, name brands and vintage clothes. It’s trendy and funky and has a price point for everyone. There is a lot packed into the store. It’s organized from front to back so be sure to check out the entire store to get an accurate feel for the place. They had some really cute hats hanging from a rope that was attached to the ceiling. As with a lot of the neat stores on Whyte, it changes all the time. Each time you check it out there are neat new things to check out. Of course, that said, if you see something you like, it’s best to snap it up or you may not see it again!
