I like going to Nomiya because of the good sushi so close to home. But after tonight I probably won’t be returning. My boyfriend and I ordered seaweed salad and vegetable tempura, which was great. Then the soups came out. My boyfriend had a chicken udon soup which was tasteless(and the chicken came out on a side plate 5 mins later). I have had Miso Ramen at the Calgary trail location without any(meat) issues. The menu clarifies that vegetarian options do not contain pork… this was incorrect because it did indeed contain pork. Which really sucked for me because I was freaking hungry… The waiter was young… let out an awkward sorry and asked if he should pack it up and that was all. I paid 55 dollars for a meal that was certainly not worth that. Vegetarians shouldn’t need to specifically go to a vegan restuarant to ensure they won’t have a soup full of meat… that isn’t even written on the menu. Come on guys. At least I know for next time to be much more careful.

Best salmon skin cone that I have ever had. Pleasant décor, clean, friendly people and menu has an excellent variety of items. Good quality sushi but their salmon skin cone is exceptional.

I have been on a ramen quest as of late and was quite excited to see that this little restaurant had it on their menu. I didn’t want to get my hopes up because a good authentic based ramen is hard to find. I am excited to say this place was great. The noodles were slurp worthy. In fact once you start eating you won’t care who sees you slop all down the front of your shirt it’s so good. Our waitress was so kind and efficient. The menu is quite extensive with sushi, sashimi, udon and of course ramen. Another bonus is the daily specials… Monday is beer night… hello!

My husband, son, and I were famished — we had just walked through 11 show homes in the Jagre Ridge area and were looking for a healthier option so I looked up sushi and found this restaurant and we decided to try it based on the ratings. We were hugely disappointed. The stars I’m giving is for the restaurant itself and our waiter — the ambiance was typical of a sushi restaurant — clean and cozy, and our waiter was friendly and polite. We requested to start with the assorted tempura…$ 18.95…12 pieces…4 of which were shrimp… I’ve had more tempura with more shrimp for much less of a cost. My husband had green tea… tea that was obviously made in a brewer because there were no tea leaves or a tea bag. Yes, it had the color of green tea, however, he may as well have ordered hot water… zero flavor. I had ice water and my son had sprite — pretty tough to mess that up. After finishing his two cup(Chinese tea cup size) pot of tea, he ordered an Asahi Black — one of his favorites. My son ordered the teriyaki chicken — he said it was pretty good — there was at least 3 cups of rice on the plate, some soggy vegetables, and maybe half a chicken breast or a single chicken thigh. He’s also 10 years old so his palate isn’t as experienced as mine or my husband’s. I ordered the firecracker roll. I wanted a traditional type roll like the Rainbow roll or a Spicy Tuna Maki, however, none was to be found in the main menu. After ordering this Firecracker roll, I found the rolls that I had been looking for on the«table-talker.» I generally don’t look at these things because they usually have drinks and desserts on them — not staple menu items that actually SHOULD be on the main menu. The Firecracker roll came and it was beautifully presented — my son was enthralled with how it looked. One bite and I was completely turned off. The menu did indicate that there was seaweed salad in it, however, it did not indicate«seaweed salad roll with a little bit of rice topped with salmon and too much chili sauce.» My son tried a piece, my husband tried a piece, and I could only manage to get 4 pieces down — seaweed salad should be used at a minimum… or at least be mentioned as the MAIN ingredient. My husband ordered the Chicken Kim Chi Ishi-Yaki. In the picture in the menu, it displays a nice portion of chicken served with kim chi, tofu, and cucumber, and topped with an egg. It arrived, however, he only got ONE piece of chicken MAYBE the size of his pinky. He was HUGELY disappointed, ate a few bites and pushed it aside. We figured the bill would be about $ 60…nope…$ 75. We were wondering for what, but yes, it was correct. We felt really bad that the food was not worth the bill, but we paid, we left, and we won’t be back.

The food was good, the service was crappy. Waiting for take-out, and was sitting down to wait for the take out, when business picked up they did not politely ask me to relocate from the table, instead rudely told me to move as this spot was taken. Honestly for the food, the service was beyond shitty, not worth your time.

Heard about this ramen specialty place with two locations the city. Admittedly, I’m embarrassed it took me so long to come here for I am a fan of ramen. However, Edmonton’s ramen scene is limited, so I just kind of put together my own bowl of ramen. But here we go! Nomiya is a pleasant little ramen/japanese place south on Calgary trail at South Park Centre. Basically you turn left at the lights after the Canadian Tire gas station and you are there. It isn’t an overly large place and signage is kind of small, but it should be on your right when you turn into the centre. Service here is excellent. Very polite, very quick. Liked that! They did a good job of accommodating a group of 11 around 11:30. There is room for maybe 25 in the restaurant. Ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen at 11.50 $. It presented well with bamboo shoot, black seaweed, fatty pork slices and a nice color to the broth. Tasted good. Broth was perfect! The only thing that threw me off a little was the noodles. They were ok, but there was something about them that didn’t fully jive with me. All in all I enjoyed them. Being that the ramen scene here is small, I would fully recommend Nomiya as a good option for a nice bowl of ramen.

Love this place! Have not had a bad meal, or service since this place opened on Ellerslie. We have ordered something different each time and every time we are pleasantly surprised. Paradise Roll will remain my favourite! Ninja and ring of fire rolls are close seconds. The tempura batter is always light and crispy, never oily or heavy. Have not brought ourselves to buy the 24 karat gold roll… Eventually we will give it a try! Highly recommended

Been here a few times and absolutely love it! Their prices are reasonable for the portions you get per serving. We made a mistake of eating the ramen first before everything else(the bf and I were starving), and we got full all too quickly. However, the food was still great once we got home. We haven’t tried much of their menu yet, but I have no complaints so far. Ron, our server was awesome. Service is always quick, efficient, and very friendly. You will actually notice they take care of their regulars because the staff knows almost everyone who walks through their doors. I always try to check out a restaurant’s washroom to see if it’s clean — I believe they reflect the business’ good(or bad) hygiene practices. I was impressed on how clean it was. They also provide mouthwash, floss, and other essentials. Although it’s for single use only, it is large for handicap use and has a diaper changing table as well. The only downside I found was how small the place was. On some days you may have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for a table of 2 because they do not have enough space to accommodate. Also, it feels a little cramped and I think the tables are too near to each other. I just wish the place was a little bigger since we live quite a drive away, we always have to call to see how busy they are or painstakingly wait. But really, that’s okay, it’s worth it. Very good neighborhood sushi place, indeed.

I had the Tan tan ramen and chicken karaage. The ramen was okay, nothing special. My boyfriend loved his ramen. Keeps saying he wants to eat ramen now. The price is decent so it balances out. The chicken karaage was pretty nice for the price also. I believe it’s just fried chicken pieces? The chicken meat was really tender which I liked. Really nice atmosphere and my friend works here. Got a neighbour discount — but I’m literally a neighbour anyways haha! About a 3 minute walk. I loveeeee their milk candy that they give after the meal: D All in all, a wonderful place for a date if you’re tight on money :) all their items are around $ 10-$ 20. Nothing too bad

I’m so thankful to finally have a really good neighbourhood sushi place. Nomiya delivers, big time. Their selection is extensive, and everything is pretty much gonna be great. But they’re strength is define fly in the ramen. If you’re gonna go to Nomiya, get the ramen. It’s amazing. They’ve got a nice, clean, and friendly environment. I especially liked the smallness of the restaurant, and your waiter will always be in sight. The service is excellent. And if you post pictures of your food on social networks, they’ll almost always reach out to you! Which is cool. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that they tend to undercook their chicken kara-age, which is a bummer, but just ask them to make sure it’s cooked all the way through. Regardless, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice Japanese lunch or dinner.

Stopped in after coming back from vacation, in no mood to cook so hearing good things about this place we thought we would give it a try. Ordered some sashimi and found it generous in serving and clearly fresh. Then we tried the rainbow rolls and found them equally fresh and we’ll presented. There is often a large variety from place to place with rainbow rolls but these faired well. Not my favorite but I was still pleased. The Dragon rolls came with a nice presentation with some torching of the sauce table side. The rolls equally impressed us. Finally we had some tempura. Nicely battered and not greasy. A nice assortment was a good compliment to the meal. The service was friendly and attentive. We will certainly be back. The prices were fair and matched going rates in the city. Give this place a try!

We prefer this south side location to the Calgary trail location– not as busy and awesome service. They even brought my daughters out complimentary ice cream after our meal. I was impressed with their speed of service. So far we haven’t tried anything we didn’t like. The crispy dynamite rolls were fantastic. When you ask my four year old her favourite restaurants it’s noyima’s… And McDonald’s… So maybe discredit that. All I know is that it’s my favourite sushi place in the southside. Easy to get to location right off the henday too!

We had take out from Nomiya last night for Family Day and it was fantastic! Not only was the food amazing but the ambience was very nice and the staff was awesome. They were pleasant over the phone and are proud of their restaurant. They should be! We really enjoyed what we ordered: Dynamite Rolls, Spider Rolls, Vegetarian Rolls, Crispy Spicy Tuna Rolls, and Chicken Teppanyaki. Would definitely go back!

This is the second location for Nomiya. This one does not have the Ramen as it is not the chef’s specialty at this location. I was lucky enough to sit right up at the bar and watch the chef work away at rolling and slicing all of the sushi and sashimi. It was like watching an artist paint on canvas. When I am going to a Sushi restaurant that I haven’t been to before, I always like to order the Chirashi. It gives me an idea of what the freshness and quality of the fish is. I was quite impressed. At any other place that I have had the Chirashi, they have not offered butterfish. It is amply named. It melts in your mouth like butter and is very tasty. Our dinner companions also ordered the house specialty roll which is called a «Gold Digger». It has 24K gold flakes, foie gras, asparagus and beef tenderloin. It was really, really good! Our friends rave about this place and tell us how well the staff take care of them when they come in for dinner. That care and attention was very visible during our visit as well. The family seems to really take pride in their food and the planning of the menu. This is on the other side of the city for us, I wish they were closer so that we could be regulars too! This location is very small. I know I have tried to make reservations before and they have not had space for a large group. Phone ahead so that you won’t be disappointed!

Our friends suggested this place as they’ve been here a few times already and said it was pretty good. This location is not very big but I thought the food and service made up for that. They don’t have ramen at this location, which I found rather odd since their other location by Calgary Trail is known for it. The closest thing you can get here is udon. We shared the sashimi, tempura and a couple of maki rolls. My favorite was the«crispy paradise» roll which is similar to a regular California roll but with mango stuffed inside and a sweet mayo sauce drizzled on top. Delicious! The Dynamite roll was pretty average, and the tempura was fresh and crispy. Another friend had the chicken teppanyaki which appeared to be his go-to dish. Great service, prompt and friendly as soon as we walked in the door.
