Saigon Hut is one of those places that you go to when you want something quick to eat and that won’t break the bank. Located in the same parking lot as Table Top Café, Saigon Hut is only open weekdays(10:00am — 7:30pm). Heck, their slogan is «express Vietnamese cuisine». That pretty much sums it up. We decided to drop in for a quick Wednesday lunch and we’re able to snag a table. The place is small with enough room to fit 25 to 30 people. They have a few tables scattered around but there is a large area to dine solo and car watch your lunch hour away. Order at the front counter and wait for your order to be called. This is a basic, no frills spot. More of a takeout than restaurant. You grab your own orders and clean up yourself. — Salad rolls($ 3.95 for two) — your standard salad rolls although the peanut dipping sauce was different than normal. A bit on the sweet side, which was odd to my taste buds. — Spring rolls($ 3.25 for three) — the springs rolls were done well. Light, crunchy deep fried goodness. — 2x Saigon Hut vermicelli(#11)($ 13.45) — all items meaning shrimp, sausage, a spring roll and veggies. I haven’t ate a vermicelli bowl in ages but decided to copy cat D-Bone’s order. The meats were seasoned well with good flavour and grilled nicely. You get three shrimps that were just ok. Once de-shelled, there wasn’t much flavour to them. One spring roll, they could easily give two and the veggies are pretty standard/generic. Portions are on the small side(same with the phở I saw other customer eating). — Saigon hut sandwich(#16)($ 6.45) — your choice of grilled beef, chicken or pork. She went with grilled beef and said the flavours were spot on. I’m assuming this is more just a sandwich than a banh mi, but for me, it looked pretty small. You’d need to order something else to be full. Overall, Saigon Hut is passable if you work Southside but if you’re already in that area, I’d recommend you drive a little further south and check out Hung Phat instead. That would be my Southside Vietnamese pick for shizzle.

I go here for lunch almost everyday. 4 stars out of 5 because the vermicelli bowls are honestly the best thing on the menu which is a disappointment because I LOVE Phở. BUT their Phở sucks majorly. Customer Service rocks and they greet me by name and know who I am when I come in so that is lovely. Their food(well what I order) is always fresh and amazing. I’m craving it now come to think of it… guess I’ll go tomorrow. Thanks for being so great and friendly.

My wife and I frequent this place on our travels to grandma’s house and have found the food to be tasty and freshly prepared. The customer service is top notch and the employees are always eager to assist in explaining the menu. The reason I have given the place only three stars out of five is we find it inconvenient that the hours of operation are only during the week and only until eight PM. Running a business is difficult. Especially if you have a family to take care of. But if you trust others and hire good employees, you can have time for what matters. I hope this helps.

Good tasting food but overpriced for amount of food you get compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in town.

I just took lunch away from this place, pretty good, pretty standard Vietnamese rice bowls, I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. Friendly staff and nice setting so next time I will dine in and I expect I will enjoy it more.

I’ve been here twice. First time I ordered a combo and it was just terrible. Second time I ordered the salad rolls thinking, you can’t possibly make a bad salad roll. I took one bight and spit it out. Disgusting

Piece of hair in vermicelli. Through the window, we saw the lady putting her sandal on the countertop in the kitchen — she was scratching the bottom of her foot. We went there once and would never go back. Overpriced and poorly served — not very fresh. Frankly, quite disappointed. Tipped and never going back.

I stopped by here a couple of weeks ago just for kicks. I am not a huge Asian food fan, but I don’t mind Vietnamese spring rolls and green onion cakes. The place itself is spotless and clean, and has a decent layout. Although it is more of a takeout place and«fast food» Vietnamese. The service from the owner was nice and she was friendly, but what I didn’t like was that she had her twin little girls(about age 2) running wild in the restaurant which I thought may be cute after hours — but not during business hours. Not only that, one of the little girls started heading towards the front door out of sight from everyone. As I saw her standing right at the door I went to get her and bring her back to her mama before some stranger decided to take her– which would have been easy without anyone paying attention. It is not my job to supervise small children when I go to a restaurant to buy food. This is why small tots do NOT belong in a public business with easy exit doors. I was busy watching the kid while the mother was behind the counter — and this is a no no for me. Anyways, about the food, I ordered the spring rolls and green onion cakes which came to about $ 8.25 without drink. Then I took my meal to go. I unraveled my food, basically you get an «ok» portion of the cakes. But for the spring rolls, I got four of them in my styro container, but they were kind of on the small side, something that could be mistaken for being bought frozen(although I swear I saw a lady cooking them in the restaurant kitchen). They are not meaty enough for my liking, a bit on the too crispy/overcooked side, and I thought that for $ 4, they were too small. I would rather pay $ 5 for the 3 traditional large ones. At least I would feel satisfied. This is an «ok» place to go just for fun once in a blue moon, but if you are a big guy or gal, this is not a good value for your buck. The portions are too small. Go to another more authentic Vietnamese restaurant where you will get the proper food portions. I would give this another place another try, due to the fact the owner is a very nice lady and I know how hard it is to start a business, but I just don’t want to watch the kids while I am waiting.

This is a cute little place that just recently opened up around my place of work, which is AWESOME as there is nothing around here worth eating except for a KFC and a More Subs… yuck :(So I was really excited to try it out. There is lots of seating, it was clean and nicely decorated, and painted bright green! It made everything bright and cheerful! Love it! I ended up getting the Vermicelli with Grilled Meat with shrimp added to it. The food was pretty good, the meat had a nice spice to it and smelled delicious and the noodles were good as well but kind of on the cold side. The shrimp was grilled and it was excellent except they only gave 3 small shrimps and only one had the tail(I love the tails!!) They had added to it bean sprouts and lettuce and while the bean sprouts were fresh and crunchy the lettuce was brown and old which I was kind of disappointed with. They also added some complimentary spring rolls which were delicious! They had meat in them which I love. Restaurants seem to only ever have the vegetarian kind these days. The woman working the counter was extremely friendly and very happy to help me out when I asked about the food. Customer service was excellent! I would give this place 3 ½ Stars just because the portion of food was kind of small compared to the price and there should have been more meat along with the noodles and the veggies. To many sprouts and lettuce! Hopefully once they have been opened for awhile and work the kinks out I’ll give it 5 stars :)
