Since my last review there have been a couple changes. First, they are not open 24⁄7 any more. I believe the store closes at midnight or 1 a.m. now but I am not certain. Still, it is open quite late so if you have a late night snack attack, it’s still a good option. Another thing I’d like to note is that I’ve had very bad luck with the fish department. They used to have a separate fish section and the fresh fish was always good, but in recent visits the fish has been stored with the meat and has not kept in my fridge for very long, even if it was packaged on the day I bought it. Check the dates, too, some of what I saw on shelf was a few days old already. I would not recommend buying fresh fish here! It seems like many departments(I’m lookin’ at you, bakery) are slowly making the change to bring more and more stuff in instead of making it fresh in-store. This is a little disappointing honestly. I didn’t mention this in my previous review, but I buy cheese here fairly regularly. The prices for interesting /gourmet cheeses here are really good and there are even cool sales occasionally! They actually have quite a selection, too. I would recommend the applewood smoked cheddar, which I really can’t get enough of. Oh, and Compliments now carries frozen cherries, which are delicious and reasonably priced. Cherries are my favorite and they are really difficult to find! If you love smoothies these are a great addition.

My friendly neighborhood grocery store — the go-to place when I don’t feel like driving all the way to Save On. It’s always clean, the produce and meats are top quality, and best of all, they’re open 24⁄7. They recently completed renovations, which is actually a little irritating, since the only things that are in the same place are the veggies, the meat, and the bakery/deli. Now I actually have to look around when I go in there, instead of instinctively finding what I need. They also have a service that I absolutely love — the self checkout. Usually no line for those, so I can make my purchase and disappear into the night in short order. Also, they have a liquor store in the parking lot, and they started selling cigarettes again. Now I can buy food and feed my vices in one stop.

Like Francesca, I go to this Sobey’s because it’s only a street away from my house. Sobey’s has a great selection to choose from. Since I’m lactose intolerant they offer a wide array of products to choose from in the dairy and bread sections. They’ve got certain types of soy bread that I can’t always find at Safeway. The only problem with Sobeys is that it isn’t the cheapest grocery option out there. If I were to drive 10 minutes out to the Superstore and Wal Mart at South Edmonton Common, I would get much cheaper prices on groceries. When I’m not too lazy I often do skip Sobeys and head for those two other stores.

I go here often because this location is really close to my house. I like Sobeys. It is a decent place to shop– especially on Dollar Days. They mark down prices so that many popular items are only $ 1. They usually place sales on things like fruit, pop and snacks. It really is a good deal to go when they have these sales on. This store has a sushi bar that is relatively new. They set it up last summer and they have a little old Asian man running the show. You can sometimes even see him rolling sushi, which is kind of cool. I tried some once and it was pretty good. The meat selection at Sobeys is really good as well. We often buy meat here and we can usually get a pretty good price on it. Do keep in mind that a box of frozen chicken breasts is a MUCH better deal at Costco. We bought a box from here once and almost immediately regretted it. We have also noticed that bread is always super fresh from this store. Enjoy a loaf of french bread from this location. You will not regret it.

If I want to do a larger grocery shop at Sobeys, this is the Sobeys that I like to go to. It’s so BIG! I love the deli, the bakery, and the produce department. There is just a huge assortment of fresh everything to choose from. And the new sushi bar is yummy! I love the brown rice California rolls. As for the rest of the store, I’ve only had a couple instances where they were out of something I wanted to buy. All in all, a great shopping experience.
