No mini carts like other sobeys locations. They also lock main door to filter everyone through to cash after 7pm. I know other locations do this but it’s later at night.

I don’t usually shop Sobey’s but my hunny and I were at Lakeside Landing to visit the library branch and we needed coffee so I decided to pop in and see what they had. Much like I expected the prices here were higher than I am used to being a No Frills shopper. They did seem to be running quite a few sales though which reduced some of the sticker shock. The produce and deli selection looked great but I did notice some under stocked shelves in the general grocery area. I am not sure if this is a regular occurrence though as it could easily be attributed to the prior mentioned long weekend sales. The staff here were great especially at the customer service desk. We had a couple questions and they were answered thoroughly and with a smile. If you live in the area and don’t mind paying a little more I think it’s a good store. Sometimes it’s worth it to pay a little more for good selection and customer service which they do have going for them here.

I’ve been shopping on and off at this location for the better part of 5 years. Some days are better than others, I think it is because of shipments, which could be a manager issue(better planning may help?). When it comes to the food, I have no complaints. While a little costly for their produce, its usually well stocked and I have had no issues of grabbing rotten(or super close to rotten) produce. I am in love with their Sushi, YUM. They have GREAT customer service there. I always end up feeling happy when I leave this store because the cashiers are always happy and cheery. Normally when I leave a store(any kind) I always feel drained and cranky because of other people in the store acting like asses, cutting me off when I push my cart and literally shoving me out of the way and walking in front of me and standing there while I was trying to read things, just to name a few ;) They don’t always have everything you are looking for and if they are out of stock, get a rain check if its in the flyer, they are GREAT for that.

The other day, I decided to sample a new grocery store. Every once in a while, I like to do this to shake things up and maybe find items I don’t find at the local store. Turned out to be a mistake. I’ve learned that here in Edmonton, it can be hit or miss as far as finding products I need for specific recipes. At the Safeway in Oliver, I could have found most of the stuff I needed, but here, nope. The first thing– tomatillos. The Safeway in Oliver has taken to carrying them pretty regularly. All the papayas here were not anywhere close to being ripe, thus canceling my idea for fruit salad. No Italian parsley to speak of either. Even chicken legs were non-existent. They had every other configuration, but no drumsticks, which I needed for the recipe. The yogurt selection was basically every flavor I hated(I can’t stand peach), and the flavors that did sound halfway interesting were full of sucralose. You ever taste that crap? Blegh. I’ve generally noticed that the meat cuts at Sobey’s are more interesting than some of the other locations I shop, but the fact that there were no chicken legs made that moot. I kind of miss the Sobey’s in Rosslyn that closed. For as small and old as it was, I found the selection better. Even the prices here were as high or higher than Safeway. The only thing I was really happy about was the fact that I could get my Cranberry Apple Juice here. If you’re just out for basics, you’re fine. But don’t go looking for specialty items. You won’t find them.
