I love Sherlock Holmes so I was so up to try this place! Went to CBM across the street and the small house and cool décor made me want to leave and try the place. Got there and asked about why the place was named after Sherlock Holmes and if there was anything relating to his stories in the bar, some middle aged Ill tempered woman gave me a quick«you mean the bar your sitting in?» Response and said she has no idea why it was called that just that the owner was an old guy and it opened in the 80s so maybe that’s why because it was a fad then. Believe it or not their alcohol tastes the same as else where! Other wise service didn’t deserve any thanks or tips. Didnt talk to bar tender so can’t speak for him. Try to separate the staff from the atmosphere that is Sherlock Holmes!

I forgot this place was still here until this past weekend. There’s so much in that little section now but this pub still remains a gem in the downtown core.

Pubs are getting harder and harder to come by these days, so thank goodnes for Sherlocks nestled amongst skyscrapers downtown. This place is such a gem. Cozy, warm, unassuming and a great place to unwind after a long day. The staff is always lovely(and lively). Food comes promptly without ever having to wait very long, even during a rush, and it is always good. I have never had bad food here. One of my favourite menu items is their beer cheese! I dream about it. In the summer time, their patio is a perfect retreat from the office, and it is almost always packed with others who like the comfort of a true olde english pub in the heart of the city.

Pretty good place right downtown. Usually busy too, and the patio area is nice in the summer. Worth checking out if you just want to have some typical pub food and a few drinks.

Was at this place a few years back last time I stayed downtown in Edmonton. Food was OK at the time but I was really just looking for a place to kickback, get caught up on some work and use there free wifi. You can see where this is going… sat down ordered a beer and asked for the wifi password. While i was screwing around with that I ordered the fish and chips. Figured I couldn’t go wrong with that. Cutting the fish grease was puddling up where my knife was at. I ordered a second beer still trying to get online. Finally gave up, told the waitress to close me out, the wifi doesn’t work and I need to get some work done at which time she tells me «the wifi is sketchy». I will never visit this place again

I ordered the food online. Fish and chips is good, as well as the salad. The beef is not as good as I expected but it was not so bad.

Went there with my mom in law, had a great lunch. Food was really fast and cooked well. The only thing is some items on the menu are not available until after 2pm which kind of sucks.

Great classic pub and ambiance. Live music was amazing last time I was there! Mostly East Coasters’ classic! Food is good too in a pub kinda way. Just a good all around local pub with friendly staff and character to the place.

Went to Sherlock Holmes for dinner with several colleagues. They have a good and varied beer offering and fun English menu. We started with several plates of wings — salt and pepper, garlic/honey, sweet chili and buffalo. All good. For our meals, quite a few in our party had the shepherds pie and all enjoyed it. I had the beef and mushroom pie which was similar to a beer stew with an enormous puff pastry on top. Deeeeelish! Colleagues also had the meatloaf, and bison burger. No complaints. Very casual venue, decent service. No complaints. One of the best parts was the red phone booth out front, which we fit about 8 adults … For a beer drinker, I had many options and was pleased with the selections.

This pub in downtown Edmonton recreates the feeling of an actual pub in England… old looking wood bar, cottage style building with random items nailed up on the walls, and the most god awful food you’ve ever eaten. It all just looked like frozen meals cooked in a microwave, and tasted about the same. I’m really sad we wasted an expense dinner here.

Super fun awesome party bar! I’ve never eaten here so can’t comment but I am expert at Thursday night drinking sessions at the Sherlock. Staff is good, drinks are better, patio is always bumpin’ in the summer. They have music many nights of the week and I’ve had some real crackin’ times dancing and singing the night away in here.

Last Saturday I ventured to Sherlock Holmes pub. Some members of the Facebook group Hobos With Nikons suggested it’s a great meet-up. Parking was easy, What a treat walking into this friendly little place. Dark woods, old style framed beer ads and memorabilia adorn the walls. I walked through, enjoying friendly greetings throughout. Upon choosing a little table, I was greeted by Erin, who asked me a few questions about what I would like to drink. She suggested a dark ale that may be to my liking and she was bang-on. I was hungry and ordered a peppercorn burger from the very nicely laid-out menu. The food arrived within 11 minutes. I chose fries with my burger, they were done to perfection. The burger was obviously fresh, adorned generously with tomato, red onion, lettuce, all crispy and fresh. The meat was grilled to a juicy wonderful consistency, and the peppercorn sauce was lovely, even though I could barely taste the peppercorns. I do wish the peppercorns stood out more, but to have so many other good things to say about the burger, I feel I did very well. My server checked on me and promptly and graciously brought me another beverage when I requested one. Not one time did my server inquire as to my liking of the selections while my mouth was full. Her timing and good humour was such a treat. As I people watched throughout my visit, I observed the bartender come out from behind the bar to check some photos several other patrons wanted to show him. The waitresses quickly and efficiently cleared tables and engaged patrons with friendly banter. Good food, wonderful ambiance, terrific service. This is a new favourite.

Standard pub fare, and a pretty traditional English pub vibe in general. It’s nothing to write home about, but I’ve been many times, and will probably be back again.

This place is definitely a favourite(the one downtown is the best in my opinion). I can’t wait for the sun to come out so that we can sit on the cute little patio outside! Love that they serve Shocktop, and that the food is a decent price. The taco salad is yummy! The veggie burger is pretty good too. Oh, and the yam fries are amazing. I can’t say enough good things about this place. It reminds me of a traditional Scottish pub where you can go in, sit down, have a drink, and strike up a good conversation.

When the SH closed in Capilano Mall, we thought life was no longer worth living… until we found out that Jordan, Holly and Matt moved to the downtown SH. Life is worth living again and I can get double baked chicken wings, deep fried pickle spears and Strongbow all in one sitting. Parking sucks, food is good, ambience is awesome and the staff are the best in the city.

This quaint little pub is nestled in the heart of bustling down town, hidden away on Rice Howard Way. If you didn’t know this place was here, you would probably never have the chance to enjoy this cozy little spot. I just so happen to live stumbling distance away, so I thought I’d pop in one night and have a drink. Warm and inviting, Sherlock Holmes is the perfect little pub. When I walked in I was immediately hugged by its beautifully lit Christmas garland and tastefully decorated walls. It was like a children’s gift shop, except for big kids! I pulled up a chair at the bar and was immediately greeted by one of the bartenders. He smiled and asked what I’d like to drink. Having never been here before I asked for a suggestion on their beers on tap. He, being a great bartender pried a little more and suggested something to my taste. It was a little late, and I was feeling peckish so I asked for a menu. Alex(the bartender) told me they were on a limited late night menu and provided me with their menu. For a late night menu it was pretty vast. I decided on pizza! Moments later it arrived, hot and bubbly! Certainly not skimping on the toppings, this zza was loaded! I didn’t have to ask for flatware, chillies or Parmesan. It was already there for me! Proof that your neighbourhood pub can provide! It was, quite honestly one of the best pizzas I’ve had in the city! Crispy crust, easy sauce and lots of toppings and cheese. I will certainly be back for it again! Attentive throughout my visit, Alex certainly went above and beyond. He must have picked up in our conversation that I work in the industry, because he mentioned their generous industry discount. A nice surprise! I can tell this is going to be my local watering hole!

4 stars for ambiance + 3 stars for food = 3.5 stars for Sherlock Holmes Pub. Ambiance: From the outside in, it truly felt like I was in London, or at least what I envision London to be like since I’ve never been. I’m talking about a lit-up silhouette of a detective and a red telephone booth(minus an actual telephone). Well, really only two things. Once inside, I wasn’t paying much attention to exactly what was on the walls, but I’m sure they were more London memorabilia. The trippy thing is once you enter the cozy, two-story pub, hockey is plastered on every TV screen. Food: I ordered the chicken pot pie, which I thought would be Marie Callender’s esque, but it turned out to be a half creamy, half watery chicken pot pie base with a flat, flakey croissant on top. There was no actual pie base — it was more like chicken pot + pie on top. It was… interesting, unexpected, and like nothing else I’ve ever had. Overall, I was not quite sure what to make of it. Regardless, I ate it all. I also ordered the poutine(I had to!), which are french fries with gravy and cheese. Apparently, the gravy is dark and beef-based, so I apologize if you’re vegetarian. I actually liked the darker gravy, as I generally prefer darker gravy, but I wish it was a tad less thick. The cheese lard is like mozarella but harder — the texture and consistency tasted like small blocks of string cheese. The cheese itself was fine, I just wish it was actually melted and stringy. I’ve had better poutine in Vancouver, but it was one of the few restaurants we went to during our short visit that offered poutine. Didn’t get a chance to try their beer, so no review on that, but the pub was pretty packed for a Wednesday night — both working people and families, for that matter. Interpret it as you will. Lastly and perhaps most importantly… No free wifi.

I had lunch here earlier this week and was really happy with my taco salad. Actually… it was perfect! crispy shell, spicy meat… what more could I ask for. I felt bad for the table next to me though(who, incidentally were attending the same conference as I was). We all sat down at the same time(me at a table for one, and they had a group of about 7) out on the patio(YAYPATIOSEASON!!). The server took their order first and then mine. I silently prayed that she would put my order in first, but didn’t want to straight out ask her to. but hooray… in less than 10 minutes, my salad came out, while my neighbours’ was still cooking. nom nom nom… I quietly chowed down. Half way through my salad, I realized they still hadn’t received theirs. Even though our server told them it was on it’s way when she delivered mine. Then I finished my salad… theirs STILL wasn’t here. We had to be back at the Westin at 1:15, and it was about 12:50 by now. We sat down between 12:05&12:10. I paid and left at 12:55 and their food had just came out. Personally… I’m obsessed with being on time, so I would have been freaking out, but they all seemed perfectly calm. Oh well… figured I would pass their story along as well. My experience was great though :)

Sherlock Holmes… what can I say? I am just more of a Moriarty kind of gal! Is it that I am inherently a little evil; sure. Is it that I like to feed off the finer things in life; you bet. Although I prefer to be next door to Sherlocks, at its nemesis, there is a time and a place for the pint swilling, loud, Brit pub. The patio is a phenomenon unto itself. Countless business men and women flock within its sunny, ivy lined boarders as soon as the spring snow clears and they stay there until that last leaf hits the side walk of Rice Howard Way. The food is ok; it is just a pub! The draft is cold, the shots hard and the music(often live) is loud. Sherlock’s never tries to be anything more then it is supposed to be. Perhaps that is the secret of its longevity on a street that has seen many a biz come and go.

This, by most definitions, is the classic neighborhood pub. The character is off the charts with that house turned English pub feel. This is probably Edmonton pub mecca because it has been around so long. And with the Westin, Hotel Mac, Mariott and Shaw Conference Centre nearby it’s also where out-of-towners end up because of proximity and the fact that it is open until 2 am the right nights including the all important Sunday. That being said the beer menu is nothing to get excited about and the food is average in my opinion. I had the Sunday roast beef dinner special. It was ok, but nothing special. Given my options, I am much more inclined to head to the Underground. But in terms of character, you’ll find it here. And if you want to increase your chances you’ll bump into an out-of-town NHL or CFL player then this is your place(a lot of the teams find themselves staying at the Westin).
