Tim Hortons

This location was my first try at a Tim Horton’s. I know it is a fast food joint, but it’s not something I can get back home and is somewhat of a novelty. The fact that I can order a sandwich with a donut for a side item was just awesome. The pricing and quality on muffins, cookies, and donuts puts Starbucks down the road to shame. I will definitely return to a Tim Horton’s on my next trip to the great white north.

This Tim’s will always have a special place in my Canadian memories. A few years ago, I was up this way in early December. During this time of year in these parts, the sun comes up at 9 AM and goes down at around 4 PM. The temperature also got down to as low as –40, and at that level it doesn’t matter whether it’s C or F.
So it’s 5 AM and I wander out the old Best Western for a doughnut and an early shot of coffee. There’s already a line up out the door! I was more amused than irritated and one of the things that Tim Horton’s is good at is line speed. The cold was also manageable since this Iowan understands layering. The folks in the line were also good natured and some of us even recognized each other at this early hour.
