If you’re having a party, especially one that is heavy on crafts and cookie decorating for an occasion like maybe for 10 kids on Valentine’s day, this place should be your first stop. Yes, there is everything from nuts to lentils in those bins. I will confess that I do find all the open bins a bit creepy. Who knows how fresh that stuff is or how many hands have touched those scoops? Best not to think about that. That’s why I stick with seasonal stuff. Good turnover and sometimes you can score a deal. I was in there the day before Valentine’s and scored 25% off the red and white candy. And if you’re into baking, this place is nirvana. There’s an awesome select ion of Wilton cake decorating stuff that’ll make you look just like Cake Boss: icing bags and tips, icing in tubes, cookie cutters and pans and sprinkles galore. In fact, if you are feeling like being a Cake Boss, you can rent all kinds of cake pans. There’s lots of other stuff to look at too including lots of piñatas and all the stuff to put in there. The best part is that the prices are competitive and in most cases cheaper than other stores. Party on!

I always, always forget this place exists until I’m standing in the baking aisle of my local grocery store, cursing at having to spend $$$ on a whole container of some substance when I only need a tablespoon. Then I remember I don’t have to and head to the Bulk Barn. Great selection of just about everything under the sun and reasonable prices. Beware the candy aisle(s) though; once you enter it’s difficult to leave without your arms laden with pounds of junk food.(Did I say pounds? I meant kilograms.) They also carry some specialty and gluten-free products that can be difficult or impossible to find in mainstream grocery stores. I must work on remembering to make the Bulk Barn my first stop when grocery shopping to save myself some money and frustration.

I can buy baking ingredients here that I can’t find anywhere else. Knowing that 1 scoop equals 2 cups helps me fill my plastic bag with the amount I need to buy. There is a good selection of food here and the employees keep it very tidy and clean. Check your prices with the supermarkets to be sure you are getting the best value. Learn more at
