This is a lovely spot with an adorable and modern appeal. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering the fact that they are a specialty shop in a prime location. I paid only $ 5 for a «small», decadent hot chocolate with generous whipped cream. Think of a Starbucks medium, that is this shop’s idea of a small. I was very happy with everything. The only thing that annoyed me is the fact that there was one employee to attend two counters. One counter is for the drinks. The other counter is for the chocolate. I was waiting for 15 minutes for my order to be taken at the drinks counter as there was an older gentleman ordering chocolates who simply could not make up his mind. It was ridiculous.

I am not exaggerating when I say that this place is a hidden gem. I am surprised that not a lot of my friends know about this café. Their hot chocolates are hands down the best in the city!

The first time I went I had the choco lamo which was amazing, so second time I went in for it again and it wasn’t the same. It was mostly whipped cream and chocolate sauce. So this time I thought I’d give the place another try and had a white hot chocolate. To be honest nothing special and it was warm not hot. It also tasted like milk and not white chocolate.

I am new to Halifax and this was one of the first places I visited when I arrived. I must say, they probably have the BEST ice cream I have ever had here. I think there is only chocolate and vanilla but they do it right. They also offer this delicious chocolate sauce for the top — just be sure to eat it quick, or the sauce will freeze from the cold ice cream. Prices here are pretty reasonable. Staff have always been incredibly kind to us. It’s in a fantastic location as well. I go for the ice cream. I will definitely be back. Again and again. Update: 5 stars because the staff here are just way too sweet.

Nothing special. I had a brownie that tasted like it was from a mix. Hot chocolate had an odd cotton taste. Nice cute atmosphere and there’s books to read which I appreciated. Probably wouldn’t stop in here again unless I was already on lower water street.

I’ve been here twice, and thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. The staff have always been incredibly nice, helping me understand their offerings, as well as giving advice on different taste combinations. The atmosphere is nice and casual and they’re open late, so if you have a sudden chocolate craving they’re the place to go. They also give a discount for students along with a student ID(I think it’s 15% off).

Hot chocolates served here are what all hot chocolates should aspire to be! You can customize your own hot chocolate in many ways and they all taste rich and delicious! The location is great for a quick drop in after a walk by the water or anywhere downtown!

What’s better then a bowl of oatmeal on a cold, snowy, typical Canadian winters day? Hot chocolate of course! But there’s so many choices… Tim’s is probably the cheapest place and it’s super close to your house. Or maybe you’ll splurge a bit and drive to the local starbucks… but if you want a REAL hot chocolate, with delicious taste and sprinkled cocoa powder on top, make your way down to the Choco Café. Seriously. Hot chocolate can be hard to find; Starbucks isn’t the best and it’s QUITEEEE pricey, though most locally-owned cafes are starting to serve homemade hot chocolate, their main focus is usually coffee. So while you’re sipping on your hot chocolate, why not look through the little chocolate section of the shop? Why yes… their make their own specialty chocolates! Kinda like Laura Secord style Sluuuurp, o sorry, were you done with that?

Having not been here in a while, my experience may have been different because I visited when Choco was in its infancy. I went with a group of friends for an evening coffee. Luckily for us, this was one of the only places opened that we tried, and we were happy with our choice. The place was kind of tiny, but cozy. The selection was small, but you could tell they tried to focus on specialities. The staff were a tad stand-offish, which made it a little difficult to ask questions I thought. I got some sort of fondue plate and it was divine. And I got a brownie for take-out which was fantastic as well. The quality of the products was great. Toward the end of our visit we explored the retail side. They had really unique chocolate treats, which we dont often see in the Maritimes, so that was great. And this is when the staff started to interact a lot, including giving us free samples. Overall, I do really want to get back here. Definitely. And further explore what they have to offer. i love that this place is unique, providing more choice for this city of ours!

Wonderful, just wonder, if you have EVER watched the movie Chocolat, the very tingle when you watch the scenes with the chocolate and hot chocolate scenes, THIS is the store to feel like that, it has some chairs so you can sit down, the hot chocolate is awesome, especially the white hot chocolate with some strawberry flavoring with a scoop of chocolate ice cream topped with cinnamon. the texture and the hot and cold and in between just warms you from inside out. the chocolates are amazing here and yes they are a wee bit pricey but it is VERY much worth it. also the workers are so sweet and very helpful. If your around Pier 21 or the Farmers Market by the water front, you REALLY should check this place out especially when it’s a cold winter day and you need to unwind with a friend or a significant other. Just make sure you bring moola

The reviews don’t lie: this place is a true hidden gem. I ordered a soy hazelnut hot chocolate, and I have to say that this was the BEST hot chocolate I’ve had in a long time(*ahem* Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Second Cup, Carnation, Nestle, etc etc). They actually make it from scratch — from chocolate discs plus a shot of chocolate, no funny, salty powders — and have a wide range of optional flavours that are actually noticeable in the drink. They do have skim and soy options as well as free whipped cream topping, though there’s also the option of topping instead with anything from marshmallows to a scoop of ice cream. Furthermore, the staff was super friendly and it’s located in a beautiful neighbourhood. They were open late, so I was able to stay for quite a while working on my laptop in the spacious seating area, not to mention they had a 15% student discount! Considering that their prices are similar to Starbucks hot chocolate for better quality before the discount, this is an amazing deal. Unfortunately I only have a few days left in Halifax, but had I found out about it early on in my visit, I would have definitely been a regular.

This place is awesome! A hidden gem! We discovered it today(after living in halifax our whole lives). My boyfriend got the Café Mocha which he loved and I got the Belgium milk hot chocolate which was soooo delish! I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other drinks and baked goods! It’s also a cozy place with super nice employees — check it out for yourself :)

Where have you been all my life? Chocolate is one of my favourite foods, only topped by bacon(or anything with bacon on it/in it) I was introduced to Choco Café at Unilocal museum mash up, and couldn’t have been more excited! I made the journey downtown, not something i do a lot, but more and more lately, for Choco Cafes one year anniversary. I was blessed with free chocolate samples, and mini cupcakes. All so damn good! I had to buy a box of chocolates. My wife and I each got a hot chocolate! Hers Milk Chocolate, Mine Belgian White. With a banana Chocolate Chip Muffin to split. Worth every penny! The muffin was grand, lots of flavour, lots of chocolate. She loved her Milk Choco hot chocolate, so did I! ;) But man was the Belgian white hot chocolate good. I wanted more, before i even finished what i had. Next time I will be getting the biggest size they offer. So good! Only one server on, and she kicked ass. Very friendly, very quick, and fun to just chat with. I have found another gem in Halifax, to drag my ass out of the suburbs(woods)!

As a non-coffee drinker(or any hot drinks), I would normally have no use for a café. But since this one has chocolate in the name, you know it’s for me. I’ve only been a few times, but OHEMMGEETHECHOCOLATE. ISSOGOOD. Lots and lots of variety, and it’s all SO. GOOD. I bought some Christmas gifts there last year and will be doing so again this year ’cause I must spread the chocolate cheer. On my first visit the owner and a staffer greeted me and were very helpful in guiding me through the many many different chocolates they carry. Upon subsequent visits the owner wasn’t there and the only staffer was behind the coffee counter and seemed reluctant to move to the chocolate side of things. Fortunately I don’t care so long as I can buy those lucious, lucious chocolates. Did I mention I love chocolate?

I just happened to be a couple of blocks away and was searching for someplace non-industrial for coffee. Thank you Unilocal and Unilocalers, yet again. What a great place — not only high-quality chocolates for sale, but a large variety of coffees and teas and pastries and ice cream. The proprietor keeps the shop open late in the evening, and I’m sure he gets additional business here after other places have closed. He makes a special effort to get the beverages for each person in your party done all at the same time so they remain appropriately hot or cold. Even though it was a warm evening, I ordered a medium Nutty Hot Chocolate($ 4.75) because I wanted to try the combination of flavors. The hot cocoa was rich, topped with fresh whipped cream, and then dusted with very fine nuts and more cocoa powder. The person with me ordered a slice of key lime cheesecake and a medium London Fog($ 2.75) which was Earl Grey tea with vanilla and foamed milk. The cheesecake was not really authentic, so opt for one of the other delicious pastries here, but it didn’t detract from the beverages or service.

This is my go-to place for hand-made chocolates as special gifts for my dearest friends and family. They have a wide variety of flavours and collection sizes. Occasionally I have coffee or hot chocolate here, especially for private chats. It’s hardly ever busy, not like the place across the street. Their hours are very generous! It seems to be somewhat unknown.
