I read the reviews and this is a nice and simply old school diner. This is not The Bicycle Thief. We had a the cheese burger and it was just like the ones we would get when we were kids. The service was great. I wish they had beer but that’s not the end of the world. I will be back. If you need your home style diner fix stop in!

I hadn’t read any reviews on any site when I stumbled upon this place while short-cutting to Lacewood. There’s been a parade of failed restaurants in this location. Some deserved to fail and some didn’t. The location is a kiss of death it seems. Daddy O’s claims great food at great prices. Regrettably neither were true. This is a garden variety menu you’ll find at a hundred other places, at typical prices with nothing positive to set it apart. I was hankering for a juicy burg and the 6 oz. burg on the menu posted in the window was encouraging. After going inside, and seeing both the kitchen and the cook dead ahead, I was having second thoughts. If you’re going to allow the patrons to view the kitchen, make sure it’s a positive thing not a negative ! The«décor» is so cruddy I decided to skip the burg and just have a take out of hand cut fries. Safe, right? The cook handed the stryofoam container to me sending me on my way when the waiter/maître d’ rushed out from the back with a bag with«everything else». When I got in the car and opened the bag — one napkin and three packets of super cheap vinegar. No salt and nothing to eat the chips with! Before going back I decide to have a look at the chips. They were obviously undercooked just looking at them. Sampled one to confirm. It was tasteless as well. It’s not like the cook was overwhelmed. He had a sandwich order and my chips. This place will shortly join the others in closing down and deservedly so.

I was really dissapointed with my experiance here. again like most reviews, i was so excited for a place i could walk across the street to for breakfast! however on my day i made the trip i went with my friend and her daughter, i ordered an omlete with no green peppers. my friend and her daughters order came, they ate. we waited about 20 minutes more and my breakfast never came. Finally I waived the waitress down and said may I have my breakfast. She asked again what I ordered, and guess what came out 15 minutes later. …an omlete with ONLY green peppers… i left. will not be back… sorry Daddy’O

A Ma & Pa shop just down road? Color me excited. We decided to try this new place out after a night of Rum induced dancing, so any type of grease would make us happy. I ordered a cheese burger and poutine and the lady ordered a BLT and poutine. The burger was homemade and a nice size(not too big), however the poutine could feed a small community it was so large. It’s made with fresh gravy and cheese curds! The décor is dated but it is suppose to look that way so people– cut it some slack. The service was a bit slow, and she seemed anxious so I could ascertain she was new– so this was not an issue at all. As we were eating the cook came out and asked how the meal was, if the portions were enough, and if there was anything they can do better. Very smart move from an owner who clearly wants to succeed. With Flip Burger just down the road, and a whack of joints in Bayers Lake we as a community should be more patient and helpful to local people trying to make a dime. Give this place a while to learn the ropes, and in the meantime swing by for a burger or poutine and support Halifax.

A retro burger joint across from our home… sounds promising for a quick meal. Dropped by Saturday @ 630 pm, there was no one in the place. Red walls, with Marilyn Monroe poster and old records hung up to simulate the 50’s feel. However, there was a small pile of broken chairs and stools in the front corner(hmmm). The cook and server were sitting at the end of the diner and quickly rushed up saying«customers». Service was good, we were the only one there but the food was terrible. I ordered a milkshake and onion rings — the milkshake was watery but the onion rings were ok. My boyfriend’s burger was not too tasty and the bun was old. His McCain fries were soggy — perhaps the cook fried them in low temperature oil. The prices were reasonable but even at that it wasn’t worth it. The décor needs to be upgraded and the food has to be made better because the fast food burger places are much better than Daddy O’s. I like to see a small business succeed so I will try Daddy O’s in a few months and hope things have improved.

I really, really wanted to like this place. An oldies-themed diner with a simple, affordable menu near my home in Clayton Park. Unfortunately, it’s not meant to be, at least until some staffing kinks are worked out. The restaurant is small, maybe seven tables with a small counter along one window with a few high chairs. It was busy when we walked in at lunch time. There was one empty but dirty table, so we took a seat at the counter. There was only one server. She darted between tables and the cash. We read the only menus on the counter — the all-day breakfast menu — and figured their regular menu was perhaps not available until later? Eventually a more-or-less clean table opened up so we moved. By that time we had waited 15 minutes for some form of acknowledgement from the lone server. We could see she was busy and apologizing to customers so we decided to wait a bit longer. Another couple offered us their regular menu. Why this menu isn’t on every table I don’t know. After about 20 minutes she brought us placemats and silverware and took our order. Meanwhile the cook was coming out of the kitchen to serve customers. Any religious viewer of «Bar Rescue» is aware that this is a no-no. ;-) Another 20 minutes and our food arrived. I ordered the Daddy-O burger and Mike had the mushroom Swiss burger. The fixings on Mike’s burger were skimpy, but the meat itself was tasty. The fries were meh, just the usual«home cut» limp fries everyone serves these days. We wanted to try some dessert, but after watching the server struggle with the POS system and clear empty tables while completely ignoring ours, we gave up and paid at the cash. She had to ask us what we ordered, then rang our order in wrong anyway and undercharged us. She was clearly flustered but trying to keep upbeat. This place would be worth more stars if they actually hired enough staff and properly trained the staff they have. The décor is 50s-60s inspired with Marilyn Monroe prints and records on the walls. The oldies music helped make the wait bearable. We’ll give this place awhile to work out its issues.
