Want to have a great time and get a great workout too? Then put this in your calendar: Friday nights at six p. m: African Dance For Everyone! Whether you are a trained dancer, someone looking to add variety to their workout or just have some(sweaty) fun, this class is fantastic. Each week there are live drummers playing authentic West African djembe and doundoun rhythms, as well as improvising grooves drawn from cultures worldwide. The class begins with a warm-up and is followed by instruction on a specific dance, step-by-step. I’ve been hooked on A.D.F.E for a few years now. The teacher and the musicians are all passionate about what they do and it is a happy and supportive environment … just be warned, this class can be addictive, and if you’re doing it right, you will definitely perspire! People of all ages and experience levels are welcome(I’ve seen five year olds and grandmothers dancing beside each other), all you need to bring are comfy clothes suitable for moving around in, water, maybe a towel(it can get pretty warm in the studio) and a willingness to dance! Classes are $ 8($ 7 for students) and are drop-in. They also offer a discount for an eight-week block of classes — just $ 50⁄45.
