I work and live in the Hydrostone and just discovered this place a month or so ago, how I didn’t know about it I dunno. But yeesh the egg salad sandwiches have been all I talk about(seriously, NO ONION-perfect) and the specific chip and pop options are all I need for a super filling lunch at 6 bucks or so. Their specials are suh gud(chocolate milk for $ 2) and it’s a comfort knowing a can of Dr Pepper is 5 minutes away at any time. Love you, Hydrostone Groceteria. I’m not sure how to say your name, but, love you.

I just wanted to up my star rating to reflect the store’s great customer service. I went in last night and picked up a few things, but discovered the debit machine was unavailable when I got to the counter. Since I didn’t have any cash on me, I was ready to just put my things back and head home. But the owner insisted that I simply bring in cash the next day. Just got back from dropping off the money to the store and happy to have the store as a neighbourhood fixture.

One of the perks of living in the good old North End, is having this little meeting spot as my neighborhood«corner» store. Always a friendly greeting, and by the second time you pop in they know you by name. The sales are always a surprise and great! Many times better then local grocery stores. If you want it, they have it, or will get it. As Lee(the owner) always says… ONLYATTHEHYDRO!!! Love this place.

One of the perks of living in the Hydrostone is the proximity to the Hydrostone Groceteria. It is one of the friendliest corner stores I’ve ever been to. Considering it’s a corner store, one would expect higher prices for regular necessities that you could get at one of the larger grocery stores for much cheaper but the HG actually has a leg up on them with some things. For example, breakfast cereal. While the selection isn’t huge, they sell all of them for $ 3 a box. That includes Mini Wheats, something you usually pay $ 5 or more for unless they’re on sale. Other canned and prepackaged items also can be surprisingly priced as well in comparison to other places. There’s usually a sign outside the store with the weekly special but I’m pretty sure the prices for these items never changes. While the store is pretty small and packed, there is surprisingly a lot of stuff in here. What you won’t find is fresh produce and other uncommon items but there’s a lot in the way of treats, like chocolate, candy and chips, plus quick supper food items, necessities, lotto, and whatever you’d expect at a corner store. But I’m going to return back to the breakfast cereal and the fact that Mini Wheats are $ 3 a box!

They claim they have everything and if they don’t, they will get it for you. I don’t know if this is true, but it is possibly the friendliest convenience store I have ever been to. The owner seems to know all of his regulars by name and is super happy to see everyone who walks in. There’s so much stuff in there that you can barely move around, but that’s okay: you need it? they’ve got it! Bonus: he has a backup generator for when hurricanes knock the power out and you need ice cream.
