In it self, Papa Mario’s is good, probably 4 stars; however, there is a specific reason that I’m writing this review and rating it 5 stars therein. This is for anyone from Cape Breton who is missing Sydney pizza. Possibly unknown to many Haligonians, there is a distinctly different style of pizza between these two cities. In Halifax crusts are thicker, sauce is sweeter, and pepperoni often sparser, additionally, bacon bits are much more common; I don’t mean to make a judgment here, that’s just my observations. Of the places I’ve tried in Halifax thus far, Papa Mario’s has the best crust and sauce in the city. On a 1 – 10 scale, with 1 being Xtreme and 10 being Kenny’s/Napoli, Papa Mario’s is about a 9. To be precise, it very much reminds me of Big Daddy’s in New Waterford. I hypothesize that if one were to get double pepperoni, let the pizza get cold, then reheat in the oven, it would be a very good simulation of Big Daddy’s(and yes, that’s supposed to be a good thing, mostly). NOTE: While slices are thin, they default to deep dish on orders, which isn’t actually bad, but if you’re looking for a Cape Breton substitute, ask for the thin crust, and get them to use the pans they use for the slice, not the deep dish ones.
