This store is small and convenient but the selection of produce is poor and is generally not very good, though I’ve seen worse. If you’re going in to pick up something common then that’s great but if you’re looking for say vanilla beans or something else exotic, forget it and go somewhere else. Staff are generally friendly and the store is clean but definitely needs a makeover, which I think they’re in the process of doing now.

I like this Save Easy. Which may not seem like a big deal but when I mention the fact that I used to hate/detest/loathe it, it’s more of a big deal. All of my former complaints seem to have been rendered moot. It used to be dirty; it’s clean but could use a makeover. It used to have poor customer service; now it’s got staff who actually seem to care. It used to be over-priced; now it’s reasonably priced with some good deals. It used to have poor selection; now it’s. .. Well, okay, the selection is still limited but that’s merely a space issue. It’s still better than it used to be with more room dedicated to fresh fruit and veggies. Think of Save Easy as Superstore’s younger sibling. Lots of the same great deals, just not quite as developed. The location is also fairly convenient: a large parking lot and not far from a major public transit hub. So, if you’re in the area and need to pick up a few basics, it’s what you need. Keep in mind, there are limited options but a Shoppers and Dollar Store nearby may round out your grocery list.

Shopping at the Save Easy always reminds me of the motto for CBC’s Vinyl Café«We may not be big, but we’re small». Sometimes, this can be frustrating: they sure don’t have the variety found at bigger stores around town, they aren’t open 24/7, and you can’t pick up a television(or throw pillows, or a pair of jeans) with your foodstuffs. However they have improved immensely in the last few years — the store is cleaner, has better produce, and the selection has increased. Why small is sometimes better: I can get in, get the stuff on my list, and get out again in no time at all; I can request a specific product and they will often bring it in; and unlike some of the superstores, I have never gone in just to buy some milk and come out with a television/throw pillows/jeans. A grocery store that just sells groceries may be old-school, but most of the time it works for me!
