Overall, Sobey’s is a great store, its close by and convenient, but as far as their sushi goes, its heavily sauced with a mayo based sauce orange sauce and soggy, it killed the sushi craving, but I wont buy it again.

I like it because its close to my place. I can go there early in the morning. Most likely 2am but there is one check out lady that is hardly around when your at the counter its rather annoying. In my opinion.

This is now my neighborhood grocery store, and I’m happy with it. Recent renovations did wonders for the location and I almost always find what I’m looking for. When I lived in the South end I’d often walk past the Sobeys down to the Superstore because I wasn’t happy with the produce or selection of packaged foods, so I’m glad to now be able to take advantage of a store only minutes away from where I live.

This is definitely one of the better Sobeys than the rest, particularly after its recent renovation. One thing that strikes me about this Sobeys that it has a better fish stall than the rest. Plus, it carries more variety of goods on its shelves compared to the others.

I like this Sobeys a LOT more since they’ve completed the renos here. It’s got a better layout, nicer look and feel and a better selection of health/natural foods than some other grocery locations in HRM, in my opinion. Funnily enough, I never make it to the packaged goods in this store. This one is in my neighborhood and it tends to be a late night stop in for a quick fix or for last minute dinner additions, thus I love the produce and fresh food section, and that’s about all I ever really see. Eggs are in the dairy case, which is completely normal, but they seem to be miles away from the other fresh food. Parking lot is also really good. It’s well lit, and the spaces are cramped. If there’s anything that sours a quick trip to the grocery store, it’s a parking lot altercation, but that seems rare here.

Windsor Street Sobeys has gone from sketchy to almost classy! I generally only visit this location when looking for a late-night snack. It’s never really warranted visits for much else. I say this not as an insult, however. I’ve always looked forward to trips to this location, as it’s guaranteed to be an adventure. Last night, Brucifer and I decided to take a midnight trip to check out the new renos and to buy some Easter-themed snacks. We were immediately impressed(being the hosers that we are) by the«fancy» carpets in the entryway, and the fact that I found a fabulous seahorse pen on the bakery rack! We spent an hour or so browsing around, analyzing the new store. As far as the selection goes, I was extremely heartened to see so much emphasis on local products. In this age, it should be the rule rather than the exception to it, but sadly it’s not(I’m looking at you Superstore! For shame!). There was a double freezer full of berries with a sign that gave me goosebumps as it read«Local frozen berries for you to enjoy all year long.» There were lots of other local foci, including a local maple stand display, local bakeries such as Juliens, and a general focus on actually stocking local produce when available(tsk, tsk, Superstore!). Other surprises were an INSANELYHUGE pet section with a fridge full of fresh pet food, a little general merchandise department, and a new supplements section that carries Naturally Nova Scotia(awesome local whole food products) as well as some so-so and top notch brands(not much in between). There’s also a not-surprising focus on organic food, with some organic bulk items as well as a larger natural food section which could have a better selection(Mumford and Queen Street are better). With the prices being often higher than the Superstore, and Superstore having a highly superior house brand, I won’t change my loyalty entirely. I’d seriously consider it, however, if I didn’t buy my produce at the Farmer’s Market. If you haven’t been since the renovations, I encourage you to check it out. Doing your shopping after midnight always sends you home with a hilarious anectodote(last night’s being a huge MMA-looking dude who bought – without hyperbole– a half cart full of eggs!). I can’t think of a better place shop late than here. In the days of the 24-hr Quinpool IGA, I was never provided with this kind of entertainment– now with great selection and a focus on local products!

Once again, I have a 24 hour Sobeys near my apartment! Yay! For the past several months, this Sobeys location has been undergoing a complete makeover. Recently, the renovations were completed and now we have a pretty new Sobeys to visit for all of our culinary needs! Sobeys is a very different experience from the Superstore. For one, Sobeys is not pretending to be a mini-Costco. If you’re looking for non-food related items, head over to the Joseph Howe Superstore, where you will literally find everything you ever need to buy. They’ll probably have tombstones soon. Part of what makes Sobeys different from Superstore is also that it puts so much focus on improving the shopping experience for its customers. With this location, everything is well-designed, spacious, and easy to navigate. They do need to work on getting some of the boxes out of the way, though this could be because I’m always there at night. They do seem to have expanded their selection considerably, which is a nice change of pace. But what do I love most about this location? Sobeys has *finally* implemented self-scan checkout lines. Now, I’m not an advocate of using these lines when you have a full cart of groceries. That’s obnoxious, annoying, and holds up the line.(Because, with that many groceries, you will screw up.) However, these self-scanners are perfect for when you go to Sobeys at night just to buy junk and you don’t want the cute guy at the register to see you buy a jumbo box of Whoppers and three bottles of green apple soda. Not that I’ve ever done that.(I also think self-scanners make it easier for teenagers to buy condoms without being embarrassed. Yay safe sex!) Yes, they’re coming a little late to the game, but this Sobeys is finally what I need when I go shopping for groceries. I still make the odd trip to the Superstore since it’s closer and I can buy a t-shirt or get my eyes checked while I’m there, but Sobeys is always my go-to grocery store.

The renovations are finally complete! They’ve been working on the North/Windsor location of Sobey’s since last fall and just a few weeks ago, they returned to their former 24-hour status, which makes post-midnight munchies easier to satisfy. The store has essentially flipped with the bakery now on the east side of the store while frozen pre-packaged foods are on the west(left of entrance). The deli is in the centre. It seems like this location carries more stuff but maybe that’s just me. The organic section seems larger, milk and dairy is back-row-centre and the breads-section feel more like a destination rather than an out-of-the-way corner like it was before. It takes a bit of getting used to the new layout but it feels better organized and much cleaner. I wouldn’t say Sobeys was in need of a new updated look but they got it and it’s definitely an improvement.

This Sobeys on Windsor is right on my way to work and even within walking distance. Many time I find myself running in here at 7:00 before work to grab something for the day. I really like that convenience of being open early in the morning not like the other place… A few of my closet friends work here so i also get a chance to say hi. the Salads and fruit assortment and really gives you a nice range of choices. From spinach, to Cesar and garden. i normally go for the fruit selection as I am addicted to pineapple. Please can you make sure that you stock the little ranch dipping cups for the veggies pls. errr Sobeys and i am not sure if this is in my head or not but i do find it a bit more expensive then other locations but for a quick fix for those small things then I will run in or i will go when it is buy one get one free i do Love that.

Wow, this place is huge! (Mostly) everything you could want in a grocery store! I was a little bummed when I was in today and the fruit section was limited to two tiny rows(including tomatoes!). Other than that, this Sobeys has a huge deli section and would definitely be my grocery store of choice if I had a vehicle. The flyer might make it worth biking up to this neck of the woods once the weather becomes a tad more bearable.

I love this store. First, because it’s open 24 hours and since I drop my husband off at his office early in the morning… and I do mean early… before 7am early, in fact. I love the staff who are so helpful and friendly, especially the produce guys who will check manifests to see if what I want has come in and if it has, they’ll run out back to get some for me. None of that…“well, I think it’s in, but you’ll have to wait until everything is unpacked” response I’ve heard elsewhere. Even better, the cashiers are so personable, they’re like family and Helen and the gang remember customers and ask after them, especially if they haven’t been around for a while, wondering if everything is okay. Now, where else do you get service like that.

Sobeys is a large grocery chain with many locations throughout the maritimes but it somehow still manages to maintain an inviting local atmosphere. That’s just one of the reasons why I do most of my grocery shopping at this Sobey’s store on the corner of Windsor and North streets. The parking lot and store interior are both spacious, and they(to my delight) have enough space to carry a wide range of health food products. My dad is allergic to gluten and usually has trouble locating a variety of sans-wheat foods, this is one of the spots he goes to stock up. Another great thing about this Sobeys store is that it includes all the bonuses that you expect from a larger grocery chain. There is a Pharmacy counter, an NSLC store attached and a selection of floral arrangements. The bouquets are simple and cheap, I even received one myself and didn’t have the slightest inkling that flowers that pretty came from the same place I buy my bagels.
