We tried this restaurant today using a Groupon, and we won’t be returning. My husband and I each had the one piece beer battered fish and chips and weren’t really impressed. The fish wasn’t very crispy, actually kind of soggy. The tartar sauce that came with it was a very small portion and not even very flavorful. Neither of us ate many of our fries. We had decided to eat in, thinking that if we ordered take out our deep fried food would be cold and soggy by the time we drove home. The seats there were all metal(cold and uncomfortable), and we had to go to the counter to get ketchup, plastic forks and knives to set our own table. And we had to pour our own fountain pop. The food wasn’t awful, but not enjoyable either. I’d rather go to any other pub or restaurant in HRM for fish and chips, as the meal would be tastier and we would get table service.

I got take out here for the first time last week and I liked it. We were the only ones there so I announced to the two gals working there as we approached the counter that we were«first timers here with a Groupon». My order taker was friendly and helpful because I didn’t realize this place served so much more than fish, chips and clams. We got a 2-pc fish and chips and clams and chips. The other gal helped us choose our sauces. We were both happy we our meals. I even had leftovers, which I popped into the oven and I had a nice snack the next day. We will be back, despite the unsatisfactory reviews from others. We had a good meal and good service. I’ll add to my review next time I go too. Happy dining!

Just visited today. We shared a 3 piece fish and chips. Fish was barely crispy at all on the outside and soggy and soft on the inside. Not impressed for the money at all. Stick to Freddy’s fantastic fish n chips in Bayers lake! That’s where I should have gone today

We have been to this location of the Battered Fish twice. The first time because we wanted to try it, the second time because we weren’t convinced that it was as bad as we remembered it; sadly it was. We are huge fans of fish and chips, and when I say huge I mean HUGE! And the Battered Fish’s Fish and Chips leave a lot to be desired. There isn’t enough fish inside the batter and with the amount of grease that came out of them Pony Boy would say they were«Golden.» The fries are Very good, but you would think that if your restaurant is named after your fish, that would be the best thing on your menu. A lot of my friends LOVE the Battered Fish and stand by it… Sadly I can’t say the same.

I ate here once before and the food was mediocre at best. This location had only been recently opened at the time so I chalked it up to inexperienced staff and owners. Fast forward a while longer I decided to try again. The fish was awful tasting very bland. I could have went around the corner to the grocery store and grabbed better pre packed battered fish. Their fries where worse absolutely disgusting couldn’t finish them. You could tell by the taste that the fryers hadn’t been cleaned in while! In fact while I was waiting for my food a guy behind the counter poured brand new oil on top of old oil to top up one of the fryers. I also ordered a kids grilled cheese, all they did was slapped two pieces of bread on the grill with a slice of cheese for about 1 minute. The bread didn’t even look tested. The only thing that I enjoyed was their coleslaw and tartar sauce. Both of which where awesome. So if your in the mood for coleslaw and tartar sauce check them out. If you want good fish and chips I would avoid them at all costs.

Had a nice lunch with my little son here today. I got him the haddock bits and fries and the fish burger for myself. Both were lunch specials and the total for both of us was a reasonable $ 11.50 with tax! Walking in, I immediately noticed there have been some good changes from the last time I was here in late Summer: the blaring music is gone and the loud TV over the counter area is off as well. There was a new man and woman behind the counter(husband and wife?) who were very concerned that everyone was enjoying their food and went around and asking if everything was all right. Again, this attentiveness was not present last time I was here. I asked and they said that they were the new owners. The fries were much better than I remember and lacked the gamy taste. The fish burger was still best piece of fish on bread I’ve had before. They had lettuce instead of the baby spinach but that might be a seasonal thing. I figured my little guy would be all over the haddock bits but he kept wanting bites of my fish burger; has good taste that one! I tried some of his haddock bites and they were quite good as well; light tempura like batter and fresh moist fish. When we went to the«potty» to wash our hands before lunch I was impressed with how clean and stylish the bathroom was with the glass bowl sink and b&w tiles; the only thing I’d dock them for is that they don’t have a change table in either bathroom. If you are knocking Battered Fish because they are a(local) chain or you’ve had a less-than-awesome experience here before do yourself a favour and give them another shot. Congrats on getting another star BF!

The food is of good quality for a quick service restaurant. There are lots of menu options for non fish lovers. In store made dipping sauces are great.

We love the Battered Fish on the waterfront and were very excited when this location opened close to our home. The place itself is really clean and the décor is shiny and modern. Much bigger menu to choose from and signature sauces are a nice touch. Unfortunately, the most important part«the fish» was NOTGOOD. It tasted very very old and«bad fishy smell and flavour» it was also overcooked. The fries were pretty good and the service was fast and friendly so for that I’m giving it two stars but sadly I will not be returning.

Apparently the most difficult thing to find in Nova Scotia is good fish and chips. So many places to buy them, but so many just aren’t worth the money. The Battered Fish is not very good, unfortunately. The resto is very small, but neat with black walls. The menu board is large and easy to read. They have a lot more than just battered fish — chicken, hot dogs, beef burgers … this could be part of the problem, actually. The fish is overpriced. I ordered the haddock tips and fries(cheap), and Mike ordered the two-piece fish and chips(expensive). Guess what? We both ended up with the same amount of fish. His two«pieces» were the tiniest little bits I’ve ever seen passed off as full-size pieces of fish. It didn’t matter though, as the fish had no taste whatsoever. Like nothing. The blandest battered fish we’ve ever had. Mine was also soggy in spots, crispy in others. The fries, however, were pretty good. Also, one of the cooks was on break when we sat down. He was at the next table playing on his phone. Someone behind the counter(the manager?) kept calling«HEY! HEY! HEY!» across the restaurant to get the guy’s attention. Very unprofessional. I’m not surprised he couldn’t hear him though, what with the loud rock music and poker on the TV. Yes, they had both music and television volume going. [Insert eye-roll here] Disappointing and we won’t be returning.

This was my first visit to a Battered Fish location, although I had noticed it before on the waterfront and in Dartmouth. This visit was to the new Clayton Park location, and it is located in the same mall as the Sobeys and Canadian Tire. This restaurant recently moved into the old Subway spot,. I was in the mood for something, hot, small, and tasty. First, I was welcomed by a friendly girl. Then I looked through the large menu and ordered a fish burger. I got a big cup of water, and sat down at a table. I liked that my fish burger came with 2 small containers of house sauce to try, specialty and tartar, My fish burger was hot(and not greasy), and came on a round white sesame bun with sliced tomato and lettuce, and specialty sauce. I bit in, and discovered that it was hot, small and tasty! There are lots of condiments to choose from for dressing up your order, like different hot sauces, vinegars, sea salt and Heinz ketchup. Also there are plastic knife, fork and spoon dispensers. I liked the sharp décor, bumblebee black and yellow, and the restaurant was very clean too. Quite a few people came in after me, so it is a already a popular fixture in the neighbourhood.
