This place is a fixture! A very trendy spot near hair stylists and coffee shops. Perfect to pop in and browse after studying all day. The presentation of the store is well thought out and intuitive; sizes are left-to-right, small-to-large and the store is laid out left-to-right, expensive-to-on sale. Everything is genuine leather, fur, handmade, unique. The animal products are cruelty free and I was told that they won’t carry a designer unless they are cruelty free. There are excellent handmade, unique items for fairly reasonable prices if you consider the materials. The only hiccup is that the sizes tend to be limited and the products on a «what you see» basis. I found a jacket and shoes I wanted to purchase but they were the wrong sizes, and I was told«sorry, that’s what we have». The staff is very pleasant and knowledgeable as well.

Seriously? A clothing boutique named«The Unicorn» stirs my inner sparkle. Perhaps this is evidence that mythical is a state of mind. Or maybe, in this one stop shop, mythical and majestic conjoin to become reality. In my slow browse through The Unicorn, the store revealed itself as a careful collection of whimsy and elegance. Please– lets just forget about the price point for now and focus on the sheer perfection of garments as a whole. Ignoring the mediocre sales rack, I was in awe most of the store’s holdings. There is a lot of stock and a few different styles going here. Work professional frocks offer an upscale look with the utmost elegance. I’m talking detailing, cut, color, etc. The bohemian chic– my own guilty pleasure– offers beautiful flowing fabrics of the most organic and earthy nature. Perfectly draped and assorted outfits to mix and match, I would absolutely love to be outfitted in this attire. Of course there are cocktail gowns/evening wear, outerwear, casual looks, as well as shoes and purses. The common thread here is luxury. Whatever look you are going for, The Unicorn caters to the woman who bears no boundaries and adores intricate detailing and understated elegance. Fashions appear timeless, not trendy, and march to their own beat. Frocks to stop strangers on the street, this store holds an unearthly grace. Of course the real reality quickly sets in when I notice the $ 400 price tag on a sweater. Sadly, The Unicorn is still a creature of mythic when it comes to my own closet, however for the lucky lady out there who can afford it can shine, and shine bright.

The Unicorn has been with Halifax since 1969(at a different location). It is now on Lower Water Street. It is a very high end store offering European and North American designers. Not for everyone. But you will find quality clothing, both casual and for business for women. The shoes selection is great and includes Geox and if you are into the Sheep Skin Boots, here is your place. The staff here are very nice and helpful.
