Decadent desserts, mind-blowingly delicious cocktails, and fun Unilocalers — these are a few of my favourite things. Let’s break it down. The location? The Middle Spoon offers the perfect atmosphere — the place was buzzing, but not so much so that it was distracting. It really is a gorgeous space. My only beef? I had a mirror directly across from me at eye level, which is nice décor-wise, but threw me for a loop every time I met my own eyes across the table. The cocktails? I started with Aphrodite’s Weakness. It was possibly the most dangerously delicious cocktail I have ever had. Dangerous because I had to physically stop myself from slurping it down like KoolAid every time I took a sip. Oh who am I kidding — I gulped. I did not sip. Then Ben gave me a taste of his prosecco, gin and lemon cocktail, and my decision to stick to one cocktail quickly gave in to «oh just one more will be fine.» I forget what it was called, but it was incredible. I will sooo be back just for the cocktails alone. The desserts? We picked out 4 desserts to share and just dug right in with our spoons. I was happy to see the portion sizes were not skimpy as is often the case with desserts. The peanut butter pie and the brownie pie were not quite what I expected, but I did enjoy them both very much. But the stars of the evening were the chocolate lava cake and the brownie cookie sundae — so decadently delicious. The company? Unilocal events are the bomb, and much of this has to do with the Unilocalers who come out and participate. We had a blast chatting up soapy TV shows, Glee-bashing(all from dedicated Glee watchers, no less), and discussing future fun Unilocal events. PS — I am totally in the camp of dressing up to go skating, but sitting on the sidelines drinking Baileys-laden coffee or some other fancy hot drink. I’m excited to see what’s up for the next Peasant’s Potluck!

Have I told you guys how much I love these Peasants Potlucks? A lot. It is impossible to complain about an evening that includes two delicious cocktails, four tasty desserts and fun conversation with a group of cool people. My first drink was tasty, but I immediately forgot what it was called after I tasted my second cocktail, the gin/lemon/prosecco cocktail that Ben referenced. To. Die. For. I enjoyed all the desserts, but my favorite remains the chocolate brownie pie. It was basically made to suit all my sweet tooth desires. That chocolate lava cake was a dark horse choice, though, and I’d definitely order it again. So, major sugar rush combined with basking in the warm glow of two drinks? Yeah, that’s enough to lead to some hilarious conversations, and you know I’ll be there with bells on(probably literally) when it’s time to hit the Oval for some«skating».

One of the great things about being an adult is that you can have dessert for dinner! That was the theme at my 4th Peasant’s Potluck, and while I didn’t have an informative powerpoint on Acne this time around, it was still pretty awesome. Between 5 of us we split four desserts, all were really good, with the chocolate lava cake and the brownie in the sundae being my two favourite items. I do wish however that the Middle Spoon would begin making their own ice-cream since so many of their desserts feature it. Even better than the desserts were the drinks. Jenner is a genius, I don’t remember the names of the drinks I had because for the first one I went with the servers suggestion, and the second I ordered because a tablemate had it and it looked good. Both were awesome, sweet twithout being cloying. Next time I’m going for the Prosecco based cocktail that was a table wide hit. Even better if possible, than the dessert and drinks was the company. A great mix of people, with interesting topic conversations ranging from every issue you could have with Glee at the moment to self inflected wounds that have caused others concern. Can’t wait for the next potluck, see y’all there!

Now, I am writing this while riding out a pretty serious sugar rush, so keep that in mind, but the lovely Melanie M’s wonderful UYE was exactly the mid-week treat I needed to zoom through to the weekend! The low lights and luxurious accents of The Middle Spoon set the mood for a surprisingly boozey night of dessert sampling. L-A and I got into the Lucky Spice(I think?), the most delicious drink you could ever make using ingredients from your grandpa’s liquor cabinet. Whiskey, rum, fired orange and vanilla — so good, y’all! Then Jill M, Mel and I found a prosecco, gin and lemon cocktail. THAT’S what’s up! And that’s not even getting into the desserts! Chocolate lava cake was my top fav but anything involving brownie was a total win. We had a killer spread with the brownie sundae, peanut butter pie, and chocolate brownie pie. Once hopped up on sugar, we basically became a spontaneous, much cooler version of The View as worked our way through the new television offerings. Revenge, apparently, is the guilty pleasure of choice for Unilocalers. We may very will start up a discussion group… Thanks for giving us a great reason to get out on the town, Mel!
