We had a mini family reunion at Bean Bar last night and couldn’t have picked a better place. The appetizers were amazing, entrees good(some could’ve had a bit more flavour), and the desserts were delicious(we ordered 10 and shared). Our waitress was the best, she was so organized, friendly, and attentive. Thank you for a wonderful night Bean Bar! We will continue to highly recommend you.

Always a great time here. Love the atmosphere and food. Service is always pleasant and quick. My only complaint is the food can be very pricey, you could order a 10 – 15 dollar burger and still have to pay approx. 5 $ more to add fries. Other than that great place for lunch, I always make sure to go when it’s not busy and have a great time.

This place was way overpriced for what they serve. quesadilla was plain and nothing special. The worst part was the place was freezing. I had to wear my jacket the whole time. How can you have a place not invest in heating. I felt like I was eating outside. Next time I’d rather stand outside a hot dog stand.

Went here for lunch and definitely a fan. Service — waitress was very friendly and we received great service. Food — my friend and I ordered the sweet potato quesadilla, which was served with guac, sour cream, and salsa, and a kale wrap to try. Really impressed with the sweet potato quesadilla; it was very rich! The kale wrap was crunchy and decent for lunch. We felt very full and satisfied. Will be returning.

I had this really amazing peanut butter cookie cake and it is absolutely the best cake I have ever had. I also had a taste of my friend’s truffle fries and was super impressed, they’re amazing! The server was super nice and helpful. The downside is the price — so expensive!!!

Such a cozy restaurant with really delicious food! My friend and I visited the other day — she had the Apple Paradise sandwich and I had the Braised Beef Cheeks, substituting polenta fries for their truffle fries. The beef was very tender, moist, and had some fatty parts of you like that part of beef! A nice variety of veggies were given on the side. As for their truffle fries, these are one of the only fries I could eat without ketchup! They are so flavorful and really difficult to get tired of eating. Dipped in the juices from the beef, I really enjoyed my meal. Though I didn’t finish it that day, it still made great leftovers! Which is important for students trying to save money. This dish was a little pricey(for students), but it reeeeally good and lasted me two meals! The Apple Paradise sandwich was delicious as well! The bread was nice and crispy, the mozzarella and cheddar mix was a nice combination with the apples, and of course, you can’t go wrong with maple syrup — the perfect touch. Apparently the sandwich used to have Brie cheese(the most delicious cheese out there) but they changed the item, so I’d be curious to see how the dish would taste with Brie instead. Nevertheless, you get 3 halves of a sandwich for a decent price. It’s nice to have independent restaurants so close to a university campus(McMaster). I can’t wait to go here again :)

One of the better places to eat near campus, which sadly means it’s usually packed. I’ve tried several of the menu items, but my personal favourite is definitely the To Die For grilled cheese sandwich. The au jus adds great flavour to the sandwich, though it can turn into a sloppy mess. I sort of wish they’d add a side of salad/veggies though because I always feel like I’ve shaved a few days off of my life after eating it and need to run 5KASAP(but I guess they do warn you with the apt name). The truffle fries are good, not great, and I don’t think they’re worth the $ 7. Have yet to try the mussels, but the last time I was here, people were ordering it left and right, so it’s definitely on my list for next time. I need to talk about the cakes though. Every time I go up to the cake counter, I feel like a child looking into a toy store from the outside because everything looks amazing and I want all of it. No matter how full I am after my meal, I always order a slice of cake as dessert. With the selection they have, you’ll definitely find something that suits your palate.

Been here a few times, nothing to write home about. Food: Calamari was cooked perfectly with delectable dips. Turkey burger seemed undercooked, but I ended up eating it. Service: service was disappointing. I mentioned I did not like my burger, and they suggested it was me, not the burger that was wrong. Left a bad impression

Been here a few times with friends, its a cozy place. Food: The first time I came I had the steak & fries. The steak was nothing special, neither were the fries. It was a good tasting meal but nothing exceptional. The second time I dined in, I had a bowl of the braised beef quinoa soup(I’m not a health junkie, but quinoas not that bad). It was also good, but nothing super special about it. I didn’t enjoy the cornbread that comes with the soup, the tastes didn’t go together as the cornbread was waaaay too sweet. I had some chocolate cake which was delicious, but I love chocolate anything so it might not be for you. Service: I find that service is hit or miss with this place. The first time I came, service was SO slow… I mean it was ridiculously slow. We waited for our food for almost 45 minutes slow. The second time around it was perfectly acceptable. The waitresses came around a good amount and checked up on us a fair bit. Environment: Its in Westdale so its obviously full of Mac students who range from being loud and rowdy to perfectly normal. There are a lot of families eating there as well. Overall the place is just really loud all the time.

I went here for lunch today and I have to say, I’m definitely a fan! Service: Great! Our waitress was quick and attentive, and brought out menus as soon as we were seated. She also came to check up on us during lunch, making sure that our water was filled. Food also came out quite quickly, maybe 5 min after we ordered. Food: I ordered the veggie chilli, which is one of my favorite cold winter dishes. It was full of beans, chunks of tomatoes, corn, pepper and other vegetables. It was thick and flavorful, just like I like it! It comes with a small side of cornbread, which is pretty good as well. It has a lovely crust and softer«cornbread» texture on the inside. For $ 8, it’s definitely a full lunch, and I left feeling quite satisfied despite being starving when I entered. You can also order this as an entrée over pilaf rice, but I personally think it’s better served in a bowl. In terms of other things on the menu, it does seem a little pricey. The next time I come, I’m going to try the stuff portobello mushroom salad($ 16) or the«kaledorf» which has kale instead of the usual lettuce. I also want to try their pretty wide array of drinks(which look delish!) Would definitely come here again during the evening with friends! Although, parking may be a little hard to find.

Walking into Bean Bar, it was like a fusion of restaurant and bar. Though most places call these pubs, Bean Bar is more on the restaurant side, so I’ll decide to call it a fusion of the two! I got the mussles appetizers. It came with pieces of toast bread as well. My bread was a little burnt, but the non burnt parts tasted DE — LI — SCIOUS. There were about 30 mussles in here and all of this for just $ 13. Man, that’s awesome. There were three mussels in the thirty that had a bit of crunch to it, 1/10, not bad. The sauce was AH-MAY-ZING, tomato sauce with a bit of spice to it. If only it was a little hotter though, it’ll be perfect. My friend got the grilled cheese and truffle fries. Never knowing what truffle fries were, i just found out it’s 黑 松露。Haha, tasted really like the oil from Korean seaweed!

Came here for dinner with my friend on a Saturday evening. We LOVED the food and our server was excellent — he was very personable, efficient and had close attention to detail. First of all, a pint of delicious Amsterdam was only $ 5.50 which is a great price. We ordered the calamari appetizer and wow, highly recommend! It was served with a delicious chipotle mayo and hot sauce. Would definitely get it again. We both ordered the bacon themed gourmet burgers(topped with bacon, bacon jam and Brie cheese) atop a turkey burger. These did not disappoint. I had sweet potato fries on the side which were cooked and seasoned very well(the touch of rosemary was nice). I think what made our meal was our friendly and helpful server. He was very efficient and gave us good advice about what to order. We really appreciated that he went the extra mile. I will be back for sure! There are so many tasty sounding things on the menu that need to be sampled.

Mmmm… sloppy joe grilled cheese! And delicious fries on the side. I just wish they didn’t charge $ 4 for a side of fries with the sandwich. But that grilled cheese was so creamy and succulent and just fabulous. I am eager to return and try some more of their menu!

Our table got the lamb as well as fish and chips. The batter and the fish was soggy and tasted like chlorine. The lamb was absolutely repulsive; extremely sinewy and cold and looked like something you’d serve to your dog. The margarita was disgustingly sweet and tasted like there was no alcohol. The server never came by once to see how our meal was and at the end when he remarked about how much food remained on our plates, to which I mentioned what was wrong. He looked at me blankly and just got our bill with no apologies or goodwill gesture.

I used to come to Bean Bar a lot but haven’t been in a few years and I’m glad I came back today. This place really has something for everyone. The menu is so diverse, making it a great restaurant for groups because everyone is bound to find something that suits their tastebuds here. I came here with three others tonight and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We started off with the Beer Battered Brie which was a hit — I especially enjoyed the cooked mango layered on top of the Brie and the pita slices went well with it. I had the Portobello Mushroom Salad as my entrée which was good but surprisingly not a huge«wow» for me — some of the leafy greens didn’t look the freshest and the walnut was glazed or covered in something that had a flavour I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but didn’t blend with the salad as well as I thought it would. It is apparently very popular though. For dessert, I had the Nutty Buddy spiked coffee paired with a slice of caramel crunch cake. Simply heavenly and a great combination. My favourite thing about Bean Bar is that both their dinner and dessert menu are vast with an array of options that all sound fantastic. Their selection of cakes never disappoints and there are dozens of teas, coffees and hot chocolates to choose from. Service was very good, our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. I would give it 5 stars if I were more satisfied with the salad. Like I said I’ve been here many times before and will for sure come back, it’s a very reliable place to dine at!

I had lunch at the Bean Bar on King Street S. It was quiet when I got there at noon but packed up really quickly. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Breast Sandwich with chipotle mayo and Roasted Mini Potatoes. The sandwich and the potatoes were delicious! I ended up leaving about half the potatoes because there was so much food. Natasha was my server. She was friendly and took excellent care of me.

Been coming here for 13 years I think. Best value around and best mid priced, casual eatery this end of the 905. We beg for them to open another location in Burlington. The restaurant gets 5 stars because I’ve been so many times, at all times of operating hours, had most of the menu, and it is consistently a great experience. Sweet potato fries are the very best. Without exception. Ever. So worth it you will never have guilt. I am a bit perplexed why the description of this restaurant says gluten free. I live with two true Celiacs and they in no way can eat here safely. Please be clear about this. I have other allergies(like dairy etc), and anaphylaxis and the staff is always attentive and thorough. This place is the perfect place for friends, or families, or a casual date. Expect to wait on weekends. I have never had a bad meal or less than amazing meal here. Morrocan stew, lamb shanks mmm, sandwiches, the squash soup, the greek chicken, the bean bar salad with chicken! Once, for 10 seconds I had snotty service and the server spent the rest of the meal apologizing and insisting he pay for my meal to which I declined. He was sincerely sorry, exceptionally busy. I got over it. I read one reviewer said it was a trying too hard wanna be trendy bar. Cannot be further from the truth. I think the décor is neither trendy nor for everyone, but the food is. You will not leave hungry or unhappy. People freak out over their homemade corn bread. Did I mention the frozen drinks? Do it. Update: Had an early dinner of a hamburger and side salad here 05÷30÷15. It was the exact reminisce of a bbq hamburger from childhood but way too huge for me to finish. The salad was fresh and lively with a very light dressing as always, never disappointing. The burger was pure and simple with very fresh tomato, lettuce and onions. A way better patty and gluten free bun(the best we’ve ever had and stayed in tact until burger’s end even though I slathered it with the in-house chipotle mayo), than any of the pricey/trendy burger restaurants I have tried.

Found on Unilocal, unsure why it is called bean bar(coffee themed, but no) and why the tag line is «lifestyle restaurant»(what does that mean?). It was easy to know what this place was, once we arrived. The décor is dark, with oversized rough metal sconces sparsely spaced on blank walls, screaming an attempt at a trendy night spot. And the size of the bar compared to the lack of quality of the dining space just confirmed that priority one is the evening drinking crowd. We arrived for lunch, and even though there was a skylight in the middle of the space, it just felt dark and uninviting to receiving customers from the bright day. Even the staff were wearing primarily black. Food was great, service was prompt and courteous, and the dessert case looked to die for, but I just couldn’t get out of there fast enough and back amongst the living. No dessert thanks, just the bill.
