Excellent atmosphere and skilled barber-shop. More than please with the modern cut I received here.

I was in Kamloops for the weekend and would of liked to get a haircut and perhaps a shave. There really aren’t too many barbers left that use straight razors(or are permitted to) so I looked up who in the area might offer such a service. Noticed that Continental offers a shave so I drove downtown to hunt him down. Walked by the retail location and he had a customer so I strolled around some of the local shops and figured I’d make my way back 20 minutes later. Peeked inside and there was nobody. Success right? So wrong. The only individual in the barber shop was(I’m assuming) the owner, sitting in one of the barber chairs chomping away on his lunch. I jokingly asked if I should come back later and to my surprise he replied: «Come back in 5…». How about I don’t come back and you put you customers first? Especially when they’re from out of town and value their time. Eat your lunch when you have time, not when there are paying customers waiting! Business must be really good, anyway I have a low tolerance for businesses that don’t jump at the opportunity’s they are given. If it was me, I’d close up for 10 – 15 minutes, even that would be more acceptable than turning away a potential client.

It’s a good olde fashioned barber shop. John, the owner, is an Italian barber that has been cutting hair for more than 25 years. Way back, John used to cut my hair when I was a little more than a tot. This last Christmas, I was visiting my parents and was in need of a haircut. As a result, I decided to go back to the barber shop I used to frequent. After visiting, I can say 25 years later, things have remained virtually the same(which isn’t a bad thing). John is still cutting hair and is willing to talk about anything. Gents will still come in off the street and say«hi» to John, if he’s by himself or even if he’s cutting someone’s hair. Not to worry though, he still keeps his focus to cut your hair. A haircut will run you $ 20(HST included) and will take about 10 – 15 min. You can also get a straight razor shave, a beard trim, etc. However, don’t come in and ask for a crazy style. The shop is what you come to think of as a traditional barber shop, not a salon. A second barber has been added to the shop with a very competent 2nd barber. However, you will notice most people that come in will come in and wait for John as they are regulars that have come to him for years. All in all, this is a great place for what you would envision as the is the epitome of a traditional barber shop.
