Stopped here for late lunch while on work trip. Was looking for Chinese food and a bit to my dismay the Chinese food comprises of fried rice done every which way(e.g. chicken, shrimp, mixed vegetable, mushroom) ranging in price from $ 9-$ 10. They also have sweet and sour pork/chicken/prawn on rice, vegetable/chicken/prawn curries with rice, wonton soup and noodles in soup. What I was craving, they didn’t have so I settled on their $ 6.50 all day breakfast(2 eggs, choice of meat, hashbrowns, beverage and toast). The food was decent diner breakfast, nothing inspiring. The service was unfriendly and unhelpful. The waitress/cook/cashier does breakfast. Her countertpart wasn’t there so no Chinese food could be served. She mumbles under breath to prompt you through the ordering process. No smile, no small talk. You order first from the chalkboard menu posted above the register/kitchen area and then you self serve the beverage situation and sit yourself. Decent food for decent price.

OK so, I had some time to kill while waiting to take the Greyhound bus from Kelowna to Nelson, and Mandy’s is conveniently located right next to the bus station. Mandy’s doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence when you walk in, but as I have been traveling for days I definitely was ready for something different. I am not a frequenter of fast food joints and had been hoping for an old style diner to eat in. The service wasn’t particularly friendly either, but man the prices are amazing. I ordered the vegetarian curry for $ 5.50 and when it arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. Good sized portion with fresh veggies and rice, and it was mad fresh by the one girl who does everything in the diner. I would definitely eat here again. It is charming in it’s lack of charm if you know what I mean haha.

Ok had to amend this thought a bit. I always like to go back three times before posting a review, but was very excited about the awesome prices at Mandy’s and had to share. My second visit did not go that great. In fact, never even got to finish my order. I had walked up to the counter and the lady there asked me what I would like to order. I started to tell her and then she proceeded to talk to someone else. Needless to say my family and I left. Will stay true to my 3 visit rule though and will update this when I have done so. Ok, the third time was good again. I know we all have off days and the poor woman behind the counter does everything from making the food, serving it and table cleaning. All by herself. The breakfast was good — had eggs, toast, sausages and hash browns for 7 bucks.
