Tango Nuevo

A delicious little plateful of great food, atmosphere and service. What a lovely meal at this little local tapas restaurant. We enjoyed sharing a variety of plates topped with tons of flavors. Service was friendly and had great insight to the menu items. A definite must stop if visiting Kingston.

Tango Nuevo is a great restaurant with a fun vibe. The quality and taste of the food are superior to other restaurants in Kingston. Tapas portions are on the smaller side, so you may want to order a couple things. Overall a nice place to hang with friends.

Definitely a great find! I’ve been twice now in the past few weeks and both times were enjoyable.
The first time was with a friend that had been before so she was able to give me some menu suggestions. It was the late afternoon when we came so it wasn’t too busy. The staff were more than welcoming and polite. The food was terrific, and my friend received a great drink suggestion.
The second time was with my boyfriend that had never been before. We had a «light» dinner, but it was terrific. Service was good, but it was VERY busy (to be expected on a late Saturday evening).
The only complaint I can conjure is how tight it is in there when it’s a full house. It was almost like we were having dinner with the tables next to us & you could tell the waiteress’ struggled a bit at times. I’m a bigger girl, but if someone bigger than myself were seated where we were it could be difficult and embarrassing to try to squeeze between the tables. I understand most restaurants are very small downtown, but this was my only discomfort. That and the prices were a little steep considering it was tapas, but they were really well done and quick to arrive.
Overall though, everything else BOTH times were great. The food is terrific and I love the chorizo plate.
Items we had and throughly enjoyed were: the chorizo dish, the jerk tacos, the calamari, the mushrooms, and the spicy shrimp. All VERY yummy!

More on the expensive side but well worth it! Service and atmosphere is always excellent. Even when it is a busy night, servers never forget to double and triple check on you! However, they may forget to bring you some items that you request at times but that is a minor issue compared to the service they provide. All servers are very knowledgeable on menu items and make great recommendations!
The food here is also amazing. They tell you that plates are small and meant to be shared but I think they are all decent sized! Great for sharing :)! On average maybe two dishes per person would be enough!
Dishes I would recommend include: tuna tataki, carne picante, seared Atlantic scallops and their must try dessert chocolate and peanut butter tiramisu! I could eat that dessert everyday! The bone marrow is also decent. I wouldn’t recommend trying the lamb poutine. It wasn’t really a wow factor and cane out a bit on the soggy side.
I love this restaurant. A place to indulge in every so often :)

Great Tapas!
I took my foodie kids (11 and 8) to Tango Nuevo. We all really enjoyed the Tapas. My kids loved the ravioli. We also had bone marrow, octopus and calamari. The octopus was very tender.
There was a decent wine selection and We would definitely return.
Service was good and décor was excellent. We were there by early in the evening (5pm) so it was not very busy. I will definitely return when in town again.

Service brutally slow, ran out of components but continued to serve cocktails without essential ingredients. Great food, but go somewhere else for drinks.

Tango Nuevo is definitely a great place to try if you’re a certified foodie! The service was fantastic here, it was a busy night but our waiter was always attentive to us and checked up regularly.
The food was good, nothing extraordinary but no complaints. I wish we had a chance to try the peanut butter tiramisu but they were all out tonight! Maybe we’ll come back for it next time.
Expect standard tapas prices and portions. We ordered calamari, grilled octopus, turkish ravioli and the meatballs (don’t rmb the proper name). I’d recommend all of them! We also got a free dessert for a birthday — churros with an amazingly decadent chocolate sauce! yumz

Good food, nice atmosphere.
Service was excellent, and their recommendations were spot on. The selection was great, and I left knowing that I’d be back there again. One of the best restaurants in Kingston!

Amazing food with amazing atmosphere. My girlfriend and I come here for dinner every time I visit her in Kingston and we love it.

I ate here two days in a row for dinner. The food is pretty good and I wasn’t able to find a similar restaurant in Kingston so it seemed unique for the area as well. I thought the prices were reasonable too for the portions (of course I’m comparing to the price of tapas in Toronto…)
I liked the seared scallops (4 pieces), the fish tacos although the chipotle crema was sooo spicy, I had to wipe it off, the patatas bravas were okay (not really traditional spanish patatas bravas like I was expecting). The garlic mushrooms were flavourful but I think maybe too much butter — I could only eat so many. Also enjoyed the portobello flatbread! I thought the guacamole was too spicy which kind of took away from it. I wouldn’t order that dish again.

Had a great meal of the charcuterie! We ordered the tuna tartar as well and it left a little to be desired– too much salsa flavor that overpowered the taste of the tuna. The sausage and cheese plate was delicious with the wine. The service was fantastic! Melissa, our server, was so helpful and knowledgable! Great place for a quick bite!

This place is amazing! We went with a small group and had a wonderful time. The staff were really friendly, and everything we ordered was unique and very well done. Great for sharing tapas amongst a group. We will definitely be back!

The tapas here are excellent: imaginative and delicious. The drinks are also first rate. My wife loves their Old Fashioneds, which feature their house-​made bitters. It can be busy but I’ve never found it too noisy. The service is always attentive and quick. Check it out!

Fantastic atmosphere and menu is constantly evolving the tapas menu is great for sharing the owner is always on hand and very friendly. Too many menu favs to list just one. Great with groups or just a couple. Location is in the heart of the city.

I was just in Kingston attending the Kingston Canadian Film Festival and a few of the receptions were held at Tango Nuevo. I had walked by this place many times before and was happy to be introduced to it this time around. Tango is a cozy and lively little tapas bar with warm and receptive staff.
They have a good selection of cocktails, wine and beer etc. I settled into a nice sparkling white. Their tapas were solid fare, the crispy polenta with spicy dipping sauce a the highlight for me. I’ve eaten in hundreds of restaurants from here to Australia and that was my first time seeing this particular dish on a menu.
Recommended for a little post movie or theatre drink and snack.

What a lively spot for great drinks and a tapas style meal with lots of variety. Just a word to the wise — don’t sit in the back corner as it can get pretty stuffy. Martini portions could have been more generous. We enjoyed shrimp fritters, ceviche (very light and fresh), calamari, Asian ribs, lemon shrimp, mini empanadas (nice flaky pastry) and they were all served with side dips and sauces. Would return again but sit kn the patio!

Amazing.
My girlfriend and I had never had tapas before, and on my birthday I decided it was finally time to try it. Really glad I did, and glad I tried it here. Liked it so much, we went back a second time for her birthday a few weeks later.
Started off with some cocktails, which were very well-​crafted. My old fashioned was on point. The wine selection is fantastic, and detailed. They also have a rotating cheese and meat menu which we didn’t get into, but will definitely be back for… seems like it would be good to come by sort of late-​night to try with some wine.
I could begin to describe all the dishes we had, but all I have to say about them was «it was amazing». I will, however, point out two that were good in particular: the scallops and the potatas bravas. The scallops were *the* best I’ve ever had in my life; the potatoes are a great appetizer, cooked well and the garlic sauce is incredible. Everything was well-​seasoned, fresh, and came out right on time. Service was great.
One note — the aceitunas tapenade was fantastic, but be aware that it’s very salty.
Soon to be a Kingston staple for good dining.

My boyfriend and I went here on a date night with no idea what to expect. We had read some reviews on here but always proceed with caution. It was incredibly busy so we ended up having to come back a half an hour later, which was fIne, seeing as we didn’t make a reservation, and it was worth the wait. The service was amazing. The servers were pleasant and offered helpful suggestions, as we had never been to a tapas restaurant before. The drinks were superb. The old movies playing in the background were delightful and really fit in with the atmosphere. We had ordered 6 small plates between the two of us, and though we were stuffed, there was not a single plate that I would have NOT had. Just fantastic overall. I will definitely be back.
