Olympia Performance is a brand new gym that just opened on the West Island. This gym is geared towards performance athletes and people who are serious about their training as it has some very unique and high-end features. The first thing that you will notice when you walk in the door is that they have a huge length of artificial turf running down the left side of the space. The owner, Steve, tells me that at 50 yards it is the longest of any gym in Montréal. The turf provides space for exercises that you could normally only do outdoors, such as 40 yard sprints, pushing sleds and bounding. On the right-hand side of the space they have an enormous scaffolding where you can let your inner«Ninja Warrior» loose on the rings, monkey bars and salmon ladder. The gym also has a peg board, Olympic lifting and a full complement of free weights and exercise machines. Additionally there is a spin room setup with CompuTrainers that are designed for performance cycling training. I’ve been there to workout a few times since they opened and I confidently say that the quality of the equipment and staff at Olympia is unmatched by any other gym that I’ve seen in the city.
