I picked this spot because of a combination of proximity and Gabriel’s excellent review. The ambience is nice although the music is so very elevator. The place is empty at 11 am on a Tuesday so my service is quick. Just a simple americano. I drink a lot of coffee and I have a sense of what I like and what is right/wrong with any particular cup. I think the beans are not fresh, not ground correctly, not compressed enough and the water subsequently too quick through the grounds. It tastes over roasted, possibly a response to weak coffee. I wouldn’t recommend the coffee. The menu is unique to me. Fried rice w/bacon. Not your usual café fare and possibly what is wrong. None of the baked goods are fresh, all of them preserved in plastic wrap, possibly to deal with the lack of customers. I may not return.

I’ve been coming here since a few months after I moved to Langley and have loved it every time. I should have come in sooner. The staff and customers are really polite and particularly accommodating of my study/work sessions. They have a bunch of different special tea and frappé(cold blend) drinks but I’m always going for the coffee, sometimes drip usually espresso or cappuccino. The coffee is great, and it passes my sensitive stomach test. The sign says it is organic and the owner says it is organic and roasted in Richmond. My next test is to see how the Reuben is, not because a Rueben is particularly hard to make mostly because I really, really like to eat them. The sauerkraut has zing and the bread isn’t greasy, which is nice. It feels like most places a Reuben leaves your hands slick after you eat it. They do lunch and breakfast all day, so my early morning Reuben cravings don’t have to wait. The outdoor patio is the same size as the inside space, both of which are big enough to make the place nice and quiet even if other people are talking. I tested out my phones panoramic setting on it(from the inside, because it was cold). I’ve sat with my dog in the fenced outdoor space for a few afternoons and she’s met the other friendly patrons more than a few times. Traffic noise isn’t an issue, I think because it is right on the west side of the one-way in Langley and everyone is slowing down already. Heads up, there are some chess players in the afternoon that will happily hand you your hat if your chess game isn’t up to scratch. Pieces are available at the counter. There is also a TV and a full bookshelf, but I haven’t used either. Oh, Apparently they’re closed on the first Sunday of the month. I don’t know why, but if they’re not open that could be why. I can’t believe I’m the first to write a review on this great place, I’m always seeing people there I guess not a lot of Unilocalers. Maybe this will fix that.
