Is this ‘as good as it gets’? I haven’t seen a nature spot as impressive as this in the GTA, so I’d say yes! The first part of the trail is already very nice, and for some reason both my wife and I had the thought that it reminded us of the woods in the Fellowship of the Ring near the end where they’re escaping the orcs. Pretty lame reference… NOPE! Within a few minutes is where we reached the section of caves and cliffs. Considering Hamilton banned tobogganing for risk of liability, I’m amazed this is still here. Ok, it’s not exactly thrill seeking, but you do walk alongside some cliff sides, and they even have steep ladders and stairs to navigate the area. The scenery is gorgeous and I haven’t seen anything like it. I didn’t have a chance to explore the whole area. I believe there’s nearly 10 km of total trails. One section was actually flat and in a calming meadow. Another nice surprise was that there was no cost. I saw the«Credit Valley Conservation» sign, and from my experience it means nearly $ 5 a head(Island Lake, Rattlesnake Point, etc.). However, there was nothing to indicate a fee.(side rant: it’s a crime that any nature area should have a fee; this is Canada isn’t it?) This is a place you need to see to believe… but don’t tell too many people since it’s such a quiet and tranquil spot.

I went hiking here with my boyfriend and I really enjoyed the time I had. Unfortunately we went around seven pm and the night was creeping up on us so we did not have time to explore the entire area. We will be back! There were lots of mosquito’s, so be prepared and bring sunscreen AND bug spray. I did not actually get to see the lime house because we got lost and went in the wrong direction, oops. However, the area is beautiful with lots of foliage and adventures for your hike(bridges, ladders and streams, oh my!). I will be back to finish my hike in the fall and I am really excited to return to this area! Friendly tip: Don’t bring your dog or small children because as Amanda P stated this hiking area can be strenuous with the gaps and steep areas on the cliffs.

This gorgeous area is part of the Bruce Trail. It looks like something out of a fantasy film. This part of the trail is not for people who have difficulty walking or need wheelchair accessibility. I suppose this is obvious as this is a walking trail but there are times when you need to hop over fissures in the escarpment rock and climb down steep ladders. The Limehouse Conservation Area features remnants of the lime industry such as kilns and a powderhouse which make for an interesting hike. We went on a rainy day which made the ground a little slippery. The trail can be dangerous if you fall so I’d recommend proper footwear and heading to this section on a sunny day. Bring your camera!
