Great view(right above the water) and food with a family restaurant feel. Fish and chips was juicy with a great coating on the fries. Maple and whisky glazed smoked salmon on cedar was good. The food came quickly once the waitress put in our order. Unfortunately, she forgot to do so for the first hour of our visit. This restaurant changed ownership ago. I wouldn’t describe it as comfort food. It’s more of a seafood and sandwich restaurant.

This is a hidden gem in Malahat. Our group of 4 people had a lovely breakfast over there. Owner welcomed us when we entered the restaurant then leaded us to our seat. The view of the inlet was priceless! I believe we had the same girl served us who served last reviewer. She IS a Barbie! Very cute and has warm smile all the time. Food was decent and waiting time is acceptable. I’d definitely go back if I’m in this area again.

No reviews? Seriously people, get on it. This place needs the love. Great food with awesome portions, super accomodating, lovely wait staff, and an astounding view. Pricing was ideal too, so I might even be inclined to call this a destination eatery.

I believe this is under relatively new ownership. It’s now called the Malahat Chalet and Moon Water Lodge. The two buildings are separate so the restaurant is definitely a business that stands on it’s own. We stopped recently for lunch on our way up island. The gal that served us had a bubbly personality that was contagious! It seemed everyone was smiling as she scurried about making sure everyone was happy and served promptly. I had the HOUSEBURGER — a House made grass fed patty, lettuce, tomato, pickled red onion, garlic mayo. Just $ 11 including a delicious mixed green salad(you can have fries if you want) with a blackberry vinaigrette. My wife had the House made Manhattan style clam chowder with grilled bannock. Both meals were excellent! and the view from the deck overlooking the Saanich Inlet takes my breath away every time! If you’re heading up island over the Malahat I strongly recommend a stop at the Malahat Chalet restaurant.

The view is spectacular and not much else. Very limited menu. I had the Lamb sirloin and was not asked how I wanted it. Apparently everyone gets it rare! I sent it back to get cooked some more. Presentation was good but the waitress was very slap happy pouring my Guinness. She would have been fired in Ireland.

I think I may be the first to review the accommodations here. My Wife and I stayed there in one of the suites as a wedding gift from my mother-in-law. We stayed there the night of our wedding and another night after. It was in July and it was a hot one out too. First impressions. The place is really nice, you can tell it was recently renovated. The view was spectacular as you can expect and it was layed out nice. One BIG issue though for summer. The place was HOT inside and for a newly renovated hotel, you would expect there to be A/C. It was bordering on 30 degrees out and it really took away from the comfort level, especially since our room had a loft where the bed was. Head rising and the like, it was pretty uncomfortable. Not like we were doing much sleeping the first night har har, but still. Can’t a guy just get a little cool air? Other than that it was quite nice, the big tub at the window was a nice touch. If it had A/C it would be 4 stars. If you area looking to stay somewhere nice in the Fall to early Spring then go for it but I would avoid it in the summer if you are looking to do any cooling down.

We had a pleasent experience at «the hat». Wait staff was super friendly. We had a seafood flatbread which was great. Combine that with a beer and the view and you can’t do much better.
