We’ve been going to the Swan for 20 years off & on. It’s a convincing English Pub, with a great location on the river. The food is always good, especially the steak & Kidney and Steak and Mushroom pies. But today’s visit wasn’t their finest hour. We were seated, and then ignored for 10 minutes before receiving menus, then again for 15 minutes before being asked for our drinks order. Maybe that was a tactic, because in the end it was 90 minutes from sitting down to food arriving. And then 2 of 3 orders were slightly wrong(i ordered fried, I got a baked potato). Maybe they were short staffed, maybe some critical piece of equipment had failed in the kitchen, But it wasn’t good and they need to get their act together.

Much like Kelly’s Welcome, the Swan has decent food, but what really makes it shine is the location. Also located on the Rideau it’s a great place to enjoy the river. I tend to end up here only when I planned on going somewhere else in town(Red Dot or Kelly’s) and for some reason they’re closed or full. That being said, the Swan has a great breakfast, a half price wing night and live music on Wednesdays. The place is pretty dark and has the feel of an old English pub(which is what they’re going for, so great!) but the patio is all Manotick — beautiful view of the river action and lots of room for get togethers or events. Get the Fisherman’s Chowder for a starter — so good! This place is known for its traditional English fare(bangers and mash, steak and kidney pie) which I’m not a huge fan of, but locals love. Another good drinking spot for those South of Ottawa with plenty of charm.

Best Fish and Chips in Ottawa hands down. Great food and friendly service. My family really have a comfortable and enjoyable time on every visit.
