Marshalls

I’ve past by this Marshalls every time I’ve gone to the gym and every time I say, «I’ve got to go check it out.», because once upon a time I’ve lived in United States and Marshalls is a well known chain. But the thing with stores like these off-​price department stores is that you don’t go just to browse around, it’s not a mall. You go when you’re looking for something very specific, not wanting to spend a lot on such item and take your chances on trying to find what you’re looking for there.
Marshalls is basically the same as Winners/​HomeSense that Canadians are already familiar with, it actually is the same company, basically. I don’t know the full story, but I was told I am able to return or exchange at a Winners if I choose to do so.
On this specific day, I came to look for cropped workout leggings as mine were overdue to be replaced. I came in pretty excited to look at their active wear section, fully thinking I’d most likely find what I’m looking for here. I looked around and yay, there are some cropped workout leggings. They looked okay, when checking the brand, it turned out to be some brand I’ve never even heard of, and I’m not about to spend $ 25 for some lesser known brand, especially when it doesn’t says what price it would have been had I bought it somewhere else, so I gave up on looking at that.
However, like going to Target, you will start finding items that you were not intending on buying. That’s what happened to me, left the store with two items, none of which was anything I went to the store for. I don’t mind though, the store is pretty clean and the staff were nice.

I used to never understand the appeal of the Winners chain of stores. They were chaotic, confusing, and a jumble of mess when it comes to trying to find anything. In recent years, my stance has softened somewhat because I’ve found that Winners have gotten tidier and, of course, the arrival of Marshalls, which I’ve generally found to be much neater than most Winners stores.
This particular store is a bit close to where I live. The wife wanted to come here to do some Christmas shopping. We found out that the store layout is very welcoming and spacious (and BRIGHT! Something that many Chinese shoppers love). The items are also laid out in an easy to find way, something else which I personally loved.
And what’s more, most of the items here haven’t been tossed around too much, so that at least we didn’t have too many difficulties trying to find what we wanted to buy. The fact that the pyjama we bought for my dad was one size too big has nothing to do with the store and everything to do with my inability to estimate people’s clothing size.
I’d go here over any Winners any day. While I’m OK with most Winners, I’ve found that the Marshalls brand provides a slightly more upscale shopping experience. This one is no exception and I’d recommend it!

I welcome the addition of Marshalls in the retail merchandising landscape. Marshalls differentiates itself in the marketplace by targeting the consumers market that is higher than Walmart but lower than Sears. I have not been to a Target store yet to make a comparison.
The first impression of Marshalls is that it looks like a Winners store (my BF said that out loud within 30 seconds of entering). This Marshalls is a lot smaller than its United States siblings. It is clean and brightly lighted. It has many departments, and I am confused with the logic of its departmental floor plan. It does not have a grocery section. It carries many brand names in all departments (Clothings, Shoes, Electronics, Health & Beauty, etc.) and definitely higher average quality than Walmart’s. The pricing is competitive as per quality. The pricing of the Shoes section is comparable to outlet stores in Mississauga and Woodbridge.

Staff working hard restocking, tidying up the existing stock and even helping customers with shoe sizes!
Neat and we’ll organized. I really enjoy browsing here more than Winners across the street.
