Getting an appointment is a pleasure. The receptionist is polite and proactively kind. Once you get there, she’s caring and attentive to every client. Taro is a real professional. Explaining what you want is easy, because he listens and helps to make the best out of your preferences. His style resembles slightly of an asian hairstyle, and although I’m caucasian, I got even more than I wanted. My hair is proportionally trimmed, I got the rectangular line on my neck, hair has been washed well, scalp massaged. My head looks chic now. While working on the hair, he’s a great companion for a chat. I will go back next time.

Haircuts have always been a bother for me. I can never find a stylist that I like but I can confidently say I am happy with my hair cut. Taro was very personable and gave me a lot of attention. I suppose my only con is price, the price was very reasonable but slightly higher than other asian hair salons in the area.

Taro is probably one of the most experienced hair stylist that I’ve ever met. I brought a couple of pictures with me to show him the styles that possibly suits me. And then we had a discussion about what I actually wants. He gave me a little bit advice in here and there, and as a result we came up with a new hairstyle that I like a lot. His service exceeds my expectation. my suggestion: as a reference, you can bring the pictures and show him the style that you want. but, his advice is definitely something that deserve a consideration too.

I have been trying to find a good place to get a haircut in Toronto for a long time. I was never satisfied with my haircut before coming to Studio T. Studio T is in J-Town, where there are many stores and restaurants run by Japanese folks.(The food there is fantastic!) I have my hair done by Kame and he is amazing, he is always on time so I never have to wait. He cuts my hair diligently and is very detailed.

it was a great salon. as long as you make an appointment, they are always on time and you don’t have to waste your time waiting. every haircut and every customer is treated really well. they never rush cutting your hair. the stylists are very skillful, courteous, and friendly. they are fluent in english and japanese(of course!). they will consult you before cutting your hair. or you can find the latest style you want from the newest japanese hairstyle magazines and they will assess if that’s good for you. they have a wide variety of magazines for you to kill time, japanese fashion and hair magazines, as well as english magazines. i think they also have children’s books for your kids! overall, a great place to get your haircut! they just added a 3rd stylist. their website:

I’ve been going to Studio T for several years now and I’ve enjoyed going there for a long time. The prices I find are a bit expensive for the quality/outcome. I wouldn’t recommend coming here to get a perm or colour done. You never know what you’ll get, it didn’t end up looking anything like what I’ve wanted, but it didn’t look bad either. When I got my perm done here, it did not last for more than a week. Even at the studio, it looked too weak of a perm compared to what I had wanted. Colouring is a hit and miss for me, it was much better when Kei did the colouring compared to Taro. The quality of the hair cuts are very nice though! I would suggest to always bring a picture to show the hairstylists. If you don’t, your hair won’t drastically look any different from when you arrived. In any case, I always felt super good after getting a haircut here! What I also like is that Taro(hairstylist) always gives feedback on the pictures I show him, and lets me know when something wouldn’t suit me. And he’s a great person to chat with. I also usually get my hair cut by Kei! But I’m sad to hear that he left Studio T… He didn’t talk much, but I really enjoyed his presence and the haircuts he did for me. I think the best part about going to studio T is when they wash your hair… It’s like a super nice massage on your head! Since I’m more constrained with money, I’ve finally decided to find alternative hairstylists that are more budget oriented.

I would give this place a 4 star review based on this guy who did my hair. His name is Masa and he is very friendly and pays attention to detail. I got my hair colored here and I really liked the color. In between when he washed my hair, he have me a head massage which was much appreciated! However I came back with my mom and sister who also wanted to get their hair colored. My sisters hair turned out fine because Masa dealt with her, but my moms hair turned out HORRIBLE. Don’t let the assistant touch your hair!!! She is this stumpy Japanese girl with long blonde hair who speaks no English at all. She made my moms hair 3 different colors. It was like gradation! I don’t remember asking for a tie-dye color style for her hair. She doesn’t speak English AND is completely rude cause she didn’t even apologize. Don’t ever let her touch your hair. She is completely useless and stupid. Due to this incident, we had to stay extra 2 hours… SORIDICULOUS!!! Because of her I give this place 1 star.

Taro is a very talented hair stylist. I’ve been going to him for around 4 years now, and even after I’ve moved to NYC, I still go back to him to get my hair cut! He is attentive and a bit of a perfectionist. His suggestions as to what kind of hairstyle fits my face have never disappointed me. From your basic cut and wash to the elaborate Japanese thermal hair straightening, he does it all and he does it well. 5 stars for extremely reasonable prices and excellent service.

Situated in the J-Town Complex by the cosmetics shop, Studio T is a hair salon that offers a variety of services including: cuts, perms, and colours. Their prices are quite reasonable considering that most cuts in Toronto range from $ 65 – 100. The ‘T’ in Studio T stands for Taro… I think. Taro is both the owner and an amazing hairstylist himself. His parents are Japanese, but he was born and raised in Toronto. Once finished high school, he decided to go to Japan and discovered the world of hair salons. He’s fluently bilingual in Japanese and English. Mind you, if you’re reading this and you’ve understood most of what I have said, I think the Japanese means nothing to you. He has three other stylists working under him. As I have never experienced their services, it’s hard to comment, but their clients seem to be quite content when leaving. Before cutting your hair, Taro consults with you in terms of the style/look that you’re going for. You do not have to be Japanese — lately I have noticed that his clientele reach to a variety of groups of people. Even my non-Japanese father goes here. Book with Taro in advance. I had to wait a couple of weeks to see him on Sunday. The weekend appointments are hard to come by.
