Hong Kong style egg waffles will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up, my grandparents would frequently bring them home to surprise me as treats. Unfortunately the quality found in New York City is a joke. All the egg waffles’ center I had in recent years were found empty. All skimped on the portion; all lacked authenticity. When visiting Pacific mall, my in law insisted that we stop by Tung Tung for the best authentic egg waffle in the city! I was not disappointed! Freshly made, generous portioned, perfectly sweetened — No matter how full I was from lunch, I couldn’t help but devour the whole waffle within 5 mins. I especially loved how the crispy outside complement the soft/spongy center! A little taste of heaven with every bite! $ 5 for two bigger than my face portion! This would definitely be my go to place if I live locally! Who doesn’t love waking up to Hong Kong style egg waffles for breakfast every morning?

Get the egg waffles hot and fresh. This place is located upstairs in the food court market. The ladies who make them seem to be enjoying themselves. I always get them to make the egg waffles from order so it’s hot! The waffle batter isn’t too sweet and it’s really fluffy and good. The price is $ 5 for 2 egg waffle sheets. It’s a place to visit the next time you’re at pacific mall.

They must have changed the batter because it’s no longer great as it once was. The feeling of biting into it is all wrong. it’s too hard! and it doesn’t last as long as it use to. I’ve been able to store it for up to weeks and now it’s awful after a week of storing in a ziplock bag. And plus, the lady refuses to sell any and said that if I wanted a package, to come back a week later. a week later?! Clearly if you are not capable of selling to customers, open more shops and hire more people to fill the demand!

The hand made egg roll cookies are definitely not worth the hype. First of all, I ordered two cases of those cookies two weeks In advance only to have the rude lady behind the counter tell me that she didn’t have my order. I told her the exact date I ordered them too and she had the audacity to tell me she didn’t care what day I ordered them… She didn’t have my order. And the other b*tch behind the counter told me if I wanted a new order to make it a month in advance. Who the hell has time for that?! Then walk back to pacific mall cookie counter to have another rude lady tell me it’s limit one pack per person when I saw her give a woman three packs right before me!!! WTH??? If you can’t learn to mass produce these or make them faster or have people that are slightly nicer don’t bother! And don’t get egg waffles from here — sales ladies don’t wear gloves when packing your order, especially after handling money a few seconds before.

Went last night. I ordered one batch of the egg waffles. It was fresh and straight from the waffle maker — who wouldn’t be excited for a fresh dessert, right? Upon walking away and having the first puff, I noticed the texture was mushy. So, I asked my friend if they maybe put custard inside, but with a closer examination, it was uncooked batter in every pocket. I wouldn’t be surprised if I order a few months from now and get handed a bag of liquid batter. I’m sorry, but their quality has finished over the years. Service: the old lady was abruptly rude to my friends when she asked if there were any nuts. The lady’s response was no, we are sold out. So then my friend wanted to order a cookie that another lady was making and the lady again repeats herself and firmly responds, «ALLSOLDOUT». So, when I asked the lady if the cookie can’t be sold, she whips out a whole container of premade cookies from underneath the cashier area and says her price. No offense, but if someone could overtake her business and hire new employees, this place would be much better. Also, hygiene is not their specialty… Handling cash then touching my food isn’t what I remember of hygiene standards. This place is garbage.

The actual egg waffles are made okay, but the ladies that work here are absolutely atrocious to deal with. Once we cut a coupon from a newspaper that had a $ 1 off for every 2 batches bought, and the lady at the cashier just instantly turned black and was very angry. Some customers also have a VIP card of some sort and when we inquired, all we received was an extremely brusque response that there are no more. You would have thought that there could be an explanation or something, but nope! The food is decently well done, but make sure you get the ones fresh off the waffle maker and not sitting in the glass rack — those ones usually have some defects and are usually not as fresh or warm! Pretty busy on weekends, and very, very little business during regular weekdays though.

Mom ordered 16 bags of the egg rolls(don guen). One older lady making all these rolls by hand from afternoon till night. And it MUST be pre-ordered or else they won’t even entertain selling them to you. They told us to come back after 6pm, arrived at 7pm and it still wasn’t ready. Peeved, but what can you do? By 7:30pm, we got the goods! It’s pretty cool how they make it. Take a dollop of secret yummy flour/egg mixture and put it on the hot circular presser, then press. Once it’s flatten, fold the ends, then roll. It comes out hot, golden, just enough sweetness and light. Cmon, my mom ordered 16 bags to bring back to her friends and family. Yes, it’s that good. Make sure you order in advance to get it the night of or the next day.

This Tung Tung is within the Pacific Heritage Town on the 2nd level of Pacific Mall. It’s definitely Cantonese favourite that as a Kid growing up I always enjoy these at Theatres or on walking along Hong Kong streets. It’s such a rare item to find in Toronto/Markham or just GTA in general. Almost like how Hodo Kwaja was unique back in the day and still somewhat hard to find. I think the only negative thing I would comment is that some of the Red Bean Cakes or Egg Puffs are pre-made rather than made-to-order so you might not always get the WARM fluffy ones that adds an extra yummy element to this delicacy I grew up on. Btw, if you leave it overnight it will turn crunchy which I had for the first time. Not something I suggest as usually it’s eaten on the spot. Just saying…
