The Goose & Gridiron Restaurant & Pub

Very slow service despite being not busy. Good pub food bugers amd fries. No local beers… Pretty average

The goose is a great English style eatery. The décor is scattred between local artists and and souviners from travels.
The lighting is always low and inviting.
The staff is the reason I rated it so high, They are engaging and fun, they have no problem altering a dish to meet your needs… within reason.
The menu is well priced and has many options from finger food apps to main courses. The pub side and the dining area share the same menu and staff.

The Goose & Gridiron is located right in scenic Merrickville, Ontario. From the outside it looks very impressive in an old character building from the 1800s. The inside feels quaint and cozy, very pub-​like. I thought the fireplaces really added to the ambience. Unfortunately this is where the positive side of my review ends. Right from the start the service was terrible, we rarely saw our waitress. Everything was slow from getting water and cutlery to the table, drink orders, main orders, etc. Then once our food finally arrived (long over an hour) to the table it was not good and it was cold. I realize this sounds harsh, but there is no other way to say it. One example, my friends food was not the right order, she sent it back and waited a really long time for the right order. Unfortunately, we were long done eating by the time her food arrived. And when it did arrive it was way over cooked. Black. For my order, the bun on my burger was not fresh, it was obviously a week old bun as it was dried right out. While I asked for my burger medium well, it had been carelessly cooked to well done… twice over. Consistency and appearance resembled that of a hockey puck. It was dry, lacked flavor and was not yummy. I would’ve said something if I had ever seen our waitress or been asked. The whole lunch ordeal was over a couple of hours. In the end we just wanted to get going and even getting and paying our bills was an ordeal.
While my hopes had been high for our lunch in beautiful Merrickville, I can honestly say that my lunch bubble was burst. At this time I cannot in good faith recommend this restaurant. I won’t be a returning customer.

The «Goose» is a full service restaurant & pub located in beautiful Merrickville, with a cozy home setting. It’s good for a lunch or dinner out with friends and family or just the two of you for a romantic night out. Above average pub fare and full meals in a classic old 1856 building.
