This a quaint little eclectic place to eat that features an impressive array of locally grown food and crops. They manage to arrange authentic and delicious worldly flavours together so that you really do feel as though you’re travelling abroad! The ambiance is creative with a worldly feel. Oh — and make sure to check out the impressive wine cellar! Massive variety of grapes for vino lovers! :)

Really nice place, a little hard to find because it’s tucked behind another building. Good service and a nice clean place. I ordered the rueben rueben and my friend got the flat bread of the day(date and goat cheese, with ground chicken). We both enjoyed our meals. My only criticism was that my sandwich had too much sauerkraut. It was too overwhelming, so I picked some off.

Explorer’s theme to the décor. Lots to look at to keep you entertained while you dine. The menu is diverse. I went for the Singapore Noodles with Chicken. This was properly spicy and very good. Service was very attentive and pleasant. I definitely recommend this place and would try it again.

This was a nice surprise in Midland. The menu is adventurous(in keeping with the explorer theme), and everything was tasty. Our group tried the jerk sandwich, the passage through India(today’s curry was red curry cod), and the whitetail fish tacos. Everything was fantastic. This resto also has an extensive wine selection, so there’s lots to explore in that domain too.

Nautical ambiance — navy walls and dark wood panelling with navy and silver striped table cloths and napkins. Eclectic menu with vegeterian options. The food is well executed with a nice kick of spice. The staff is knowledgable about their offerings and friendly. If your in the area — eat here.

Cool place. Cozy and great lunch menu. All made in house with local ingredients. Some vegan and vegetarian options and lots of great meat options too. Prices are great too considering the quality of the ingredients. Great alternative to the standard frozen food greasy spoon menus around it. :)

This place is interesting, cozy and usually delicious. For a small town restaurant they know how to craft worldly culinary delights. if you are in the area this is a go to for creative fine dining.

We were staying at a resort in Shanty Bay and decided to explore the area and ended up in Midland. We’re from the Washington DC metropolitan area. The place is decorated per its name. We had the Salmon Dish with mashed potatoes and the Fisherman’s Soup(very tasty and full of goodies… really enjoyed it. The waiter was very nice and inviting… no complaints… You will enjoy the atmosphere and the food.

We’ve had a dinner here in May 2013. Angus steak was very good. Duck legs were okay but potatoes on the side were absolutely tasteless. They tasted like they’ve been stored a few days and just warmed up. Portions were really tiny! Even though we took an appetizer(baked brie) after our meal we were still quite hungry. My crème brûlée was cold inside and only warm on the outside rim(again something from the fridge?) Staff was friendly but not very helpful. First they brought us a wrong version of a menu so we had to read another one and pick all over again. The waiter was not very helpful when we asked for wine recommendation. He was polite though. The restaurant’s décor is very simple and small-town’y. They have a huge fish hanging over the bar, lol. Overall, I wouldn’t go back if there were many other dining options in Midland, but since it’s not the case it’s really not so bad. By the way, it’s a little tricky to find the restaurant. It’s kind of in the back, in-between King St and Midland Ave. Parking is accessible through Midland Ave.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Explorer’s Café in Midland, with an eclectic selection of well-prepared appetizers and entrees. All the people serving us were very helpful and friendly. The tuna appetizer(name escapes me) was really good, the Elk Bourguignonne was great but very heavy and the Duck Confit was delicious. Though you pay a little more, you’ll definitely be very satisfied with the meal. Only order the appetizers if you’re really hungry.

I love this place. WTF is it doing in little ol’ Midland? I come from a town gifted with a great dinning«scene», but I would love to teleport this joint to Grand Rapids and watch the foodies become regulars. The menu is always creative and eclectic, while not too obscure. They follow it up with great execution, wait staff that knows their product, better than average wine selection and cozy atmosphere. Put Explorer Café in the GTA or any major metro market and there will be a line every night. One of my favorite places… maybe anywhere. The douche who gave this a poor review thinks Boston Pizza is fine dinning.
