This was our last Nova Scotia meal on our way to the airport and we stopped just because they had fish cakes on the menu. I am not a fan of kitschy décor so I was a little wary upon entering but we walked away very full and happy. First of all the potato skins… I don’t think they are a regular item but donair toppings on potato skins is brilliant! The order is huge so it could be a meal by itself but we all shared it. We all had seafood casserole and/or fish cakes for our main course(fish cakes are available as a side option as well as an entrée) and they did not disappoint. The seafood casserole is loaded with seafood and no rice or pasta filler. The fish cakes were delicious and served with green tomato chow, yum! I only gave 5 stars because the cheese on top could have been left under the broiler longer, I like it to be brown and fully melted. I would give our server 6 stars if I could! Sherri was very personable and even though it was the end of the night she was friendly and we never felt rushed to hurry up so they could close. She even went back and brought my husband an extra chunk of lobster when he joked that he didn’t have as much in his casserole as mine. Not a fine dining restaurant but good food, large portions and great service before we flew home from our vacation!

Had a fantastic dinner here this week while in Truro. Came here with a business colleague and he was raving about the blueberry vinaigrette salad dressing! For dinner I ordered the Seafood casserole with a house salad with the blueberry dressing. Salad had a very nice refreshing interesting flavour. The seafood came came out with cheese on it and a nice mixture of shrimp, smaller scallops lobster and what appeared to be haddock. This place is a dead rip off of Cracker Barrel in the US with their country store at the entrance. It’s brighter and more refreshing however! A nice small town restaurant experience!

My husband loves to come here when he works in the Truro area, and he wanted to share his love of home cooked food with me, so we went for a drive from Dartmouth to Truro to have some Sunday afternoon home cookin’! As much as I love food, the food I love the most is my mother’s. This place is like coming home — the general store is full of knick knacks, warm fluffy things, and unique delicious things, but the restaurant is really special as well! I love the décor and things like having molasses on the table, which my husband was a huge fan of! We were promptly served some warm homemade bread with butter and molasses, along with my home made iced tea which was very refreshing. However the bread was a little dense, I was hoping for something a little lighter! I ordered the Acadian Tourtière and my husband ordered the Goulash, which was entirely different than I was expecting. The tourtière was piping hot, the crust was super flaky and delicious(but in a 6″ pie, there was a little too much crust than I would care for!), and the filling was a mixture of pork and beef, and really tasty. I had two sides with my dish — the mashed turnip and glazed carrots. The turnip was delicious and exactly what I was expecting, but the carrots were spongy! Disappointing. My husband’s meal was really good — pieces of steak with onions served over amazing mashed potatoes, covered with gravy. He had two sides as well — macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The mac and cheese was actually quite good(this is something I am very picky about!) and the coleslaw was great — really fresh and lightly dressed. The goulash was so good, the gravy was tasty and the potatoes super creamy. I was a little jealous of his choice! I would go back, but I will try something different next time, the menu had a lot of options so it won’t be hard to pick something different. Our meal came to $ 36 including tax, which is reasonable. This place is definitely best for someone not as picky as I am, and who wants a no fuss home cooked meal.

I heard two things about this place: cracker barrel & expensive. After a hike in Pictou county, decided to stop in and give it a try at 5pm on a sunday. No problems getting a booth. The menu is small, yet seems to be packed with a lot of options. Prices I found were on the upper end of average. A 12oz beer was a tad expensive I found. Our order got lost in the shuffle and waited a lot longer for it. We got a complimentary dessert, so that was nice. The décor while I’m told is not as rustic as CB has a very maritimes crafty feel to it. The size of the dish was ok, although I did noticed that some that were passing by were more hearty. Quality of the food that I had, including the apple crisp was very good. This is a nice option if you are planning a stop at Truro.

Omg… it’ s a clone of cracker barrel! Popped in here while on a business trip and it was pretty good overall. service however was a bit slow and the whole commercialized feel of the place makes me give them 3 stars rather than 4.

Stopped in here for lunch on our way back to home from PEI. It’s location is perfect for travelers just of the 102 in the Millbrook Power Centre. The menu include a good variety of fare. My wife had a good sized chef salad for lunch, all the ingredients with fresh and tasty she did not leave hungry, in fact I had to help her finish it. I had the BBQ Steak Sandwich which was a sliced local tenderloin steak topped in a yummy BBQ sauce, mushrooms and onions, along with my choice of two sides, I choose a signature salad with a blueberry honey vinaigrette that I wish the sold in the attached store, and a local favorite Fiddleheads which where cooked great. We left our meal full and very pleased we will probably stop there on our passes out that way.
