This here my friends is a hidden«tiny» little gem… I am a culprit of living in Mississauga and not knowing about The Art Gallery of Mississauga(AGM). This is located in the Civic Centre building and the admission is free. The Art Gallery of Mississauga’s staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their displayed art and how thing functions. I would like to specially thank Shellie who walked me through the know hows of the venue and art being displayed. Although very nice but this facility here is the smallest in Ontario but growing. The Selection of art was very good and some of the paintings were phenomenal. I specially liked the hand paintings, 3 of them being displayed but I believe there about 5 done by artist. You can get your favorite painting in a smaller size for $ 10 but they are the printed copies of the bigger original paintings. AGM also does other artistic work around Mississauga and have them listed on their site… So if you want to check out their events, have a look at their site or Facebook page. AGM also rents out the place for private events, you can get info from them. The parking scene was awesome as you park underground in the Civic Centre parking lot and come upstairs, and the parking is free after 6 pm.

Tucked away on the ground floor, in 1 corner, of Mississauga’s Civic Centre, is the Art Gallery of Mississauga. As a life long resident born and raised in the city, attending a Unilocal event was the very first time that I had step foot inside the AGM. (I’ve seen signs for the AGM, but never bothered to visit. And I’m guessing this is true to a good majority of the city’s residents as well.) While the space itself isn’t huge, there is an actual entrance, complete with installations just outside leading into the gallery. The ceilings are high and it’s not just a rectangular shaped room. While speaking to a volunteer, he informed me that they also host private events which is good to know for the future! Since the Unilocal event, I have ‘liked’ AGM on Facebook so I can follow any upcoming special events. Next time if you’re in the city centre, take a short detour to check out our very own Art Gallery!

Let’s being by me saying, I didn’t know Mississauga even had an Art Gallery before visiting this place. How excited was I when I found that after parking in the convenient underground parking of Celebration Square + Mississauga City Hall, I could simply ascend a flight of stairs into the heart of City Hall and basically be at the front door of the AGM! The space itself is ultra modern in its presentation and I love how it essentially is a blank canvass for whatever exhibit takes it over. It’s not an overly large space so that would be the only area where it loses a star in my opinion, but it has the ability to transform and change quite easily and compared to other municipalities(with the exception of Toronto) it’s the largest in the GTA. The AGM boasts multiple exhibits throughout the year running for various periods of time. The gallery is currently closed for installation as it prepares to transform into it’s next exhibit — THESAHMATCOLLECTIVE, which will run longer than the average exhibit(July 24 — October 19). I’m a huge fan of supporting the local art scene in the GTA and with FREE(or generous donation) for entry, I think you’d enjoy making a trip here a part of your day around Mississauga City Center.
