Many years ago the area around this fish and chips used to be populated by Brits, but over the years the immigration from old motherland had ceased and Asians quickly replaced the disappearing Englishmen. So in some way this is the last outpost of what used to be a British block. It has recently been taken over by owners of Ukrainian descent who promised to keep the taste in hope of keeping their 100 years old patrons happy. And they kept the promise, nothing has changed much. The halibut is still fresh and hand picked and hand cut by new owner Tatiana(friendly, and big talker), the batter is very puffy and crispy and fries are home made. I wish she would make up her own tartar sauce, but I don’t eat it much anyway. The prices are very decent for today’s world. I must note that it is mostly a take out place, there are only two tables, but I guess only the regulars use them. The décor is a funny fish themed cacophony, so don’t expect anything reminding you of true Britain. In short we always try to get their take out when visiting the nearby Chinese plaza, it is not pretentious but fish and chips is just that kind of food and no more.
