First of all, I am being forced to give them one star because they don’t even deserve that. They take complete advantage of the kind of business they’re in and I really do wish I had taken previous reviews into consideration before visiting this place. During my dress shopping experience, the spanish lady who helped me was nice but her boss was ALWAYS on top of us because she didnt want us to take pictures and it just made the whole experience stressfull because I wanted pictures to take home to help me decide for my second visit. I should have just gone somewhere else at that point and thats where I made a mistake. Went for my second dress shopping appointment, bought the dress, and got the call it was in. I went in for alterations and left CRYING. They pissed me off so much and called me a liar over and over again(because they had said one thing about the alterations and changed it last minute)… until I agreed to whatever they said because I just couldn’t take it anymore and left. All of this for them to call me on my way back home to apologize and say they will honour what they initially said they would do. Ever since this happened I have heard at least 3 ppl that have had issues with them… worst customer service even after you purchase. NEVERGOTOSOPHIE’S MISSISSAUGA, people! They’re a mess! I felt so bad for the girls trying on the dresses there… they have no idea what they’re getting themselves into!

I went here twice for bridesmaid dress shopping and the customer service was awful on both occasions. Firstly, they are never on time and make you wait at least 20 min until you can get a room-even when you have an appointment. Then after waiting for our room we had no one to help us. Then the person who came to help us was not helpful at all. They did a bad job sizing my bridesmaids and would quickly measure over their sweater and insist they needed a larger size. Lastly, their ordering system is all on paper and disorganized. The only good thing about this place is that they have a large selection of dresses.

Do not come to this place for your wedding dress. I had previously gone to davids bridal and found a few dresses I really liked. I had been told that sometimes it’s a good idea to look around a bit at a few stores to try and see if maybe you fall in love with another dress somewhere else. On a Wednesday morning 11am-ish, my friend and I stopped off at Sophie’s Gown Shoppe so I could try on some dresses. I walked up to the counter where 3 employees were standing and asked if I could try on some dresses. One asked if I had an appointment and I said no, she looked so startled! Heaven forbid I didn’t make an appointment, even though it doesn’t state anywhere on their website that you need to make one. Keep in mind there was only 1 other bride to be in the store so it’s not like it was a busy Saturday afternoon. Now onto the actual experience, after a few minutes of waiting, an older saleslady(cant remember her name) (short, dark hair, glasses) started asking questions about what style and price and I told her what I was looking for. Well clearly she had zero experience in dressing brides since some of the dresses she brought me were hideous! I’m a curvy girl and some of the dresses were just plain awful on me. I complained about one dress making my hips jut out and she said to me UHYOUDON’T HAVEHIPSHONEY! …Yes actually I do… wth? She finally found one I actually liked, so I tried it on and it looked beautiful. We go out and I stand on the stool, my friend takes out her phone and the sales lady barked, ”NOPICTURES! NOPHONESALLOWED” I said, well how am I supposed to make a decision without seeing me in it again. She said that if I loved it enough than I should make a decision that day. UH no. Conveniently enough the dress she put me in had no price tag. So she goes and talks to some other sales people and comes back a few minutes later. The dress is $ 600 over my budget. I tell her this and she says, we’ll you only get married once right! I said I’m sorry but I definitely cant make a decision today, she then tells me if I decide today they will knock $ 200 bucks off it. That’s still $ 400 over my budget and I didn’t even love the damn dress. Finally I tell her no thank you, I’ll make up my mind later. She tells me in a huff that if I don’t make a decision today there will be no discount later. WOW, worst experience ever. Warning to all brides to be, you’d think because this store is on dundas that the prices would be decent. WRONG. Overpriced, horrible pushy salespeople. Oh and the dress that I liked was $ 1400, I checked online and you can buy the dress from a wholesaler for $ 200. Steer clear of this place.

This review is not intended to slander all the employees of Sophie’s Gown Shoppe, however, it should be noted that there is ONE particular employee(I never get her name, probably because she knows she’s an awful person) who is absolutely rude and makes the entire experience stressful and unpleasant. The first time I visited Sophie’s, the bride arranged a fitting for me. Granted, I was coming from work and made it just an hour prior to closing, I was rudely advised that I «should know better» and that«they cannot service me at the time.» My friend(aka the bride) asked if instead of a fitting, if we can just look at 3 dresses and try them on. Again the same woman refused and said they were«closed» — they weren’t yet. Instead, another employee approached us and serviced us with the remaining time we had. She was wonderful and pleasant and definitely tried to alleviate the damage done by the previous employee. Since I have never experienced life as a bridesmaid, I am not familiar with the protocol. I received a call from Joanna — who is bubbly, well-mannered and a delight to speak with. She advised me my dress was ready for pick up and if I just called ahead of time to let them know I’m coming in, it would be appreciated. Today, I call in. That dreadful woman answered my call. After I explain to her that I am there to inform her that I will be coming to pick up my dress she says, «So?» What the heck kind of customer service is that??? On top of that, she(once again) condescendingly ‘informs’ me that: «fittings require appointments, not pick up» Of course, I only called as that was what was advised of me by the lovely Joanna. This nasty woman responds, «Well, you don’t have to call in. You just come in and get it.» Well, let it be known that this will be the LAST time I ever go to this store. I have already told my friends(and so has the bride) about how awful the service has been here. It only takes ONE person to ruin it for the rest. I refuse to be berated by this woman. I have only been pleasant and understanding, but her attitude just plainly — STINKS.

While I did find a gorgeous a-line taffeta gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves, it was pretty pricey. To boot, I felt the selection was kind of limited and the staff were a bit pushy, constantly asking me to put down a 50% deposit, or at least a $ 100 hold if I wanted to buy the store sample, and that it may not be there when I come back. What I didn’t like is that I wasn’t allowed to take a picture of myself in it, I felt like I was watched all the time, I couldn’t put the dresses on myself(and I didn’t expect to stand there almost naked with a stranger pulling dressed over my head), and when I told them I can’t make a decision without at least my sister, they told me it would be okay for me to wait in the store if my sister can drive over right away. Sorry, but I’m not going to ask someone to drop everything and come check out a dress. They constantly confused«favourite dress» [out of the handful they had me try on] with«THE dress». Generally they were nice and there seem to be a large number of dresses there… just be prepared.
