To combat ongoing(minor) water accumulation in the basement, we had a sump pump installed by this company. The initial sales process seemed reasonably professional, with ample literature to peruse. The company sent a letter for us to indicate any special considerations during the installation, but this letter arrived only the day before — insufficient time to send back to the company. The installation team was led by Michel Leclerc and started an hour late. Despite assurances from the salesperson that they would speak English, no one did. Their jackhammers blew circuit breakers — my computer would not work for a couple of hours because of this. Our flower garden was dug up to accommodate exterior piping, and a huge tree root was pulverized. We were not warned about this beforehand. Part of the work described in the contract could not be done because the workers could not drill through solid concrete, and they decided to build an alternate drainage route.(Yet we still had to pay for the work.) The basement stairs were also supposed to be propped up during the work, with the props left behind — nothing at all was done here. Several areas in the contract and supporting documents indicated that our belongings would be covered with plastic — this did not take place, except for a rug on the stairs to minimize muddy footprints. Following the workmen’s departure, we have had several problems with the electricity in the basement. Lights have suddenly stopped working and one is throwing sparks. The company refused to admit there are any problems and will not send anyone to inspect the work done. They told us to look in the Yellow Pages for an electrician.(So did our insurance company.) There was one small positive thing: the workmen did sweep the floor at the end, and even took away a burnt-out light bulb. While it remains to be seen whether the sump pump will do its job as advertised, the installation process was quite rattling(physically and emotionally).
