I like to get my pork ribs, pork shoulders, and packers(whole brisket) from these guys for my biweekly backyard BBQs. The reason the prices here are more expensive than at Provigo’s or Metro’s is because the meat they sell is relatively high grade: fresh, vibrant, and delicious(good balance in fat vs muscle) — but totally worth the extra 1 – 2 $/lb. Meats in most supermarkets are filled with water and/or fat(makes you wonder if you’re getting your money’s worth). It’s not a problem at Charcuterie Fairmount: the ribs are marbled but not full of fat like the ones at Costco and they cut off extra fat before weighing your cut(when necessary). —For the food police— Now a word for the ‘organic’, ‘grain fed’, ‘free range’ militants, the meat here are NOT exclusively grain fed, organic, and whatever, but most health issues tied with meat consumption are not about whether the animal was raised free range. From a chemistry perspective, significantly more has to do with how the meat is processed(cooked) and which animal is it from(ie: white vs red meat): grain fed cows, much like(exactly like) normal cows, yield red meat and an immoderate habit of red meat consumption has been linked to higher risk of cancer, ‘organic’ or not. Cooking at high temperatures(not only over open fire. Yes, even your skillet/wok/frying pan) synthesizes carcinogenic compounds — in other words, living causes cancer — so drop the ‘organic’ and pick up high quality beef instead. — — - Anyway, they make a couple kinds of sausages which are all tasty. The ones that have been smoked are the best if you don’t own a smoker. They’ve been cured and smoked. If you have a grill or smoker, you can smoke the other kinds of sausages for fun, and try different recipes of smoking/grilling. The guy behind all this is Joe. Knowledgeable, friendly and very approachable if you have questions regarding which cut of meat to get, how to cook, etc. Don’t be shy ;)

I would always buy my steaks at the grocery store just because if the convenience. A while back I decided to try this place out to see the difference and I haven’t bought steaks anywhere else since. This place is awesome! The steaks are awesome! The service is awesome! And the prices are awesome! Never buy your meat at the grocery store again!

This place is incredible. I walked in on a whim and within seconds I knew I needed to get some meat from here. I got 28 ounce spencer steaks and 28 ounce new york strips. It came out to 17 bucks, some of the cheapest I’ve ever seen and the cheapest in Montréal. I have to say they were some of the best steaks I’ve ever had. It’s all Alberta beef and it really shows. They were so good I finished all the steaks in less than two days… I love this place, can’t wait to go back tomorrow.

Thanks to the previous reviewers for this one. I had just left a neighbouring butcher in disgust, and thankfully this place was just a few doors down. Greeted with a big smile I already knew I was in the right place. I bought just over a kilo of saucisson for my journey back to the West Coast. The dried sausage hanging on racks brought back fond memories of my culinary travels in Hungary eleven years ago. Hey, even the snow falling outside added to the moment! However, it is taking a lot of willpower to not tear into the brown paper package and gobble away. Resist temptation! Well… maybe just a bite.
