I’ll start with why I didn’t give ChuChai 5 stars instead of 4: the restaurant is small and feels a little cramped. The tables are very close in proximity… enough to hear a conversation without trying to. Oh and the lighting is terrible, darkness far beyond creating an «intimate ambiance».
However, the food was simply delicious. I am normally a meat lover (especially when dining out) but decided to come here to try something different. At ChuChai, it’s «something different» in the best kind of way! Their menu offers a wide variety of choice (both main meal and appetizer). The food is marinated & flavored to near perfection! Their «faux beef» does taste like beef — but with an edge!

We were psyched to find a veggie restaurant, and all the great reviews got our hopes up. Unfortunately, the food was run-​of –the-​mill and uninspired. The biggest downfall… the waitress explained that they do not cook with garlic or onions there… she wasn’t sure why, but she reassured us that the flavors would wow us anyway. They didn’t. The sauces were bland and boring. The soy substitute was mushy. They need to amp up the creativity and for God’s sake cook with the alliums!

My favorite vegan restaurant I’ve found thus far in Montréal. I brought my meat-​loving boyfriend and his very traditional meat-​loving mother here and they ADORED the food. Both of them were delighted and stunned at how the fake meat mimicked reality. My boyfriend even mentioned that he’d be able to go vegetarian if he could find more food like what he had here. Eating at this restaurant has made me go nuts in my own kitchen trying to recreate some of the dishes I had. I seriously wish I could give more stars.

Love this place! It was delicious, so much flavour in everything we ate! Our waitress along with the other staff were amazing, really great service! My fiancé and I will definitely be going back! It was all vegan!!!

I visited this place a year ago. The waiter was very nice. I just do not like the food there. It did not really taste like thai. The food there is very exotic to me.

This is a very nice place. Food was delicious, the service was very good and the food was prepared very quickly, we just waited like 5 min. Very suitable for family. Highly recommended.

Hands down, the best began Thai food I’ve ever had. I was nervous about the faux shrimp in my Pad Thai but the texture was complementary to the noodles and the flavour subtle. Every bite was perfect and the portion was big but not extreme like some noodle dishes.
My husband had the Red Curry Duck and it was unreal. Seriously. I’ve never had real duck but the faux was amazing. Our Five Flavour Finger Food starter blew us away, as well.
The décor and atmosphere are definitely in the upscale side, making this a great place for a birthday or anniversary dinner. Can’t wait to come back here!

Menu is vegan and i was happy to taste the mushroom appetizer that taste so good i thought it was meat at first but i was told it was mushroom and it was absolutely delicious! I tried the tofu with peanut sauce and fried spinach and the green curry veggies with coconut milk and it was so good with the side of brown rice and the coconut shred appetizer was served in a little leafy if was the perfect salty sweet balance i just love this place will be back! The japonaise beer was also very refreshing a d our waitress was super kind and gave good recommendation!

Meh. I was so excited to have Thai food because I had been craving something soupy and/​or carby.
We arrived around 5 p.m. and got outdoor seating because of the nice weather. I ordered the tom yum soup with shrimp ($ 6CAD) and the stir-​fried noodles with duck ($ 16CAD, I forget the actual name, but it’s listed right under the pad thai on the menu), while MC ordered the pad thai ($ 16CAD).
Soup (³⁄₅): Looked good, tasted fine. The shrimp was really weird, though. I’m not sure how to describe it, other than maybe a bit of a soapy taste? In retrospect, I should have gotten tofu or veggies instead of the shrimp.
Duck noodles (2.5÷5): While the duck was decent, the noodles were pretty bad. They were hard and cold, undercooked and salty. For a while, I was just picking at the veggies because those were the only ingredient with some moisture that the rest of the dish lacked.
Pad thai (⁴⁄₅): I’ve always been a fan of vegan/​vegetarian pad thai, and this did not disappoint. In fact, it was the redeeming factor of the meal, food-​wise. I ended up eating all of MC’s leftovers, hehe.
There are also prix fixe options, but I believe those were $ 50CAD/​person, which is vastly overpriced for Thai food, IMO.

Very good Asian cuisine, standard. The inside is nice with a large bar. I hit this place at lunch in a Tue and it was just me and another couple. May be more of a dinner/​takeout place.

Thanks to my vegetarian friend, I tried ChuChai a few years back. Honestly, we used to go to the «bistro» side, which was much less expensive, until they changed the menu and our favorite (duck in red curry with tomatoes and pineapple sauce), so we transferred to the formal dining room restaurant, which tends to be expensive for my taste.
That being said, the spring rolls with peanut sauce, the eggplants in basilic sauce and the duck in red curry sauce tastes like heaven! (Ça goûte le ciel!)

Everything is easy at ChuChai because it’s all vegan. I started with the Tom Kha soup with vegetables; it was just the right spice level and warm and comforting. Next, I split the mango, green apple and cashew salad with a friend. Served on a bed of greens, it was pretty tasty. Lastly, the pad Thai was good, but I’m generally a bit underwhelmed by mock meat. Next time, I’d order it with tofu only and skip out on the mock chicken and shrimp.
The restaurant itself is very nice, casual but beautiful and has fantastic service.

Saveurs toujours au rendez vous et bien dosées, les imitations de viandes sont incroyables, super bon, meme pour les carnivore. Vege boeuf aux aubergines delicieux, le carnard aussi.

Mon coup de coeur à Montréal. Restaurant vegan qui cuisine sans ail et sans oignon. Ils savent recréer les saveurs de la viande — les carnivores pourraient même être surpris. Mon plat préféré: le canard croustillant. Un repas complet avec entrée et vin peut revenir un peu cher, donc ce n’est pas tout le monde qui peut se le permettre fréquemment, mais c’est définitivement un resto que vous devriez essayer.

Fun experience! Well worth trying for meat eaters and trying the fake meat. Some of the items don’t need it. The beef coconut curry was delicious without. The crispy duck, albeit mimics the duck I wouldn’t say was exceptional but alright. The springrolls were good as well.
Good experience to be had, wasn’t cheap but try it out and see.

Place en terrasse très confortable, plats servis rapidement, très fin et bon .
Petits bémols sur le vermicelle qui manqué de saveur, et sur les quantités un peu petite.

Végétarien ou pas je recommandes Chuchai tant pour l’ambiance, le service et les plats débordants de saveurs.
Mon restaurants favoris et dans le top 3 de mon conjoint qui lui est fan de viande! (Faut le faire) !
Les serveurs sont super sympathiques et le service basé sur l’entraide nous assures de né manquer de rien et d’être servi rapidement.
L’essayer c’est l’adopter.

We passed by this Thai restaurant as we were walking along Rue Duluth. We noticed high ratings on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. This restaurant is all vegan. At first my carnivore husband wasn’t sure, but they he decided to give it a try. They had fake meat made out of soy.
We ordered the following:
— Kary Puff (Crispy pastry filled with vegetables and yellow curry): DELICIOUS
— Red Curry with vegetables: This was a bit spicy for me. The waiter was nice enough to take it back and made it mild. The curry was very flavorful and I absolutely enjoyed it.
Overall, a great place for some vegetarian food.

Un véritable scandale.
Ce que nous avons mangé n’avait aucun gout (vermicelle).
Les soupes n’étaient faites que d’eau.
Les dumplings étaient trop frit (ma femme a faillit s’étouffer).
Je me suis permis d’en parler au personnel en disant que c’était incroyable que tout les plats qui nous ont étés servis né sont pas mangeable, et monsieur c’est permis de me dire: Rentrez donc en France !

Nourriture cher et de qualité médiocre.
Serveur désagréable et Raciste !
Quelle soirée !
Éviter donc ce restaurant si vous né voulez pas en sortir déçu a moins de né pas connaitre la bonne cuisine.

Si simple et si bon. ChuChai est un charmant restaurant aux saveurs thai se situant au Mont Royal remplis de Charisme mais misant sur la simplicité du décor et des mets. J’étais tellement enchanté de manger de l’imitation de différentes viandes qui je suis sûr saura satisfaire même le plus carnivore des individus.
Alors pour ce qui est du repas, Comme j’y suis allé pendant l’événement MTL à table, j’ai bien sûr choisit avec mon amie, le menu spécial de la soirée. Nous avons eu droit à plusieurs bouchées d’entrées toutes aussi succulentes les unes que les autres telles que une imitation de crevettes panné et salade de mangue. Comme plat principal, on s’est régalé avec du ”faux” canard croustillant avec épinard et une sauce au noix de coco et curry avec du ”faux boeuf” (MMHHHHH). Même si toutes les viandes dans se resto tient du ”faux”, d’une illusion simple, le goût, la texture et les saveurs sont on-​peu-​plus VRAIES. En plus je suis plus fan du faux canard que du vraie, qui était tendre et croustillant à la fois.
Sans oublier les petits desserts et le thé au jasmin pour compléter le répas.
Le seul hic est que tout cela nous as coûté une considérable somme. Cependant je né m’en plains pas car le service est top et j’en suis sortie physiquement et émotionnellement rassasié :)
Gros coup de coeur! D’ailleurs je cours à l’épicerie pour me procurer des imitations de viandes, devenues une grosse addiction!

Une amie végé nous avait recommandé ce restaurant. Par chance, j’étais tombé sur un coupon qui nous donnait le menu dégustation à moitié-​prix.
On nous a servi un cocktail en début de repas. Nous avions droit à 5 petites bouchées, dont une salade de mangue qui était savoureuse et très rafraichissante. Il y avait une fausse «crevette» croustillante qui goûtait à s’y méprendre la crevette (!!). La majorité des bouchées étaient très bonnes.
Pour le repas principal, nous avions droit à du faux boeuf, du faux poulet aux arachides, du faux canard et de la fausse crevette. Tout était très bons, surtout le boeuf. J’avais vraiment l’impression de manger du boeuf avec son gras… miam miam!
Petite déception par rapport au canard qui était très caoutchouteux.
Autre petit bémol, le prix. Bön, j’ai pu profiter d’un rabais, mais sans celui-​ci, le tout revient quand même cher.
Est-​ce que j’y retournerais? Oui sûrement pour une occasion spéciale et pour revivre l’expérience du faux!

J’y suis allée hier pour la fête d’une amie. Je n’ai jamais eu autant de mal à décider ce que j’allais prendre! TOUT sur le menu semble délicieux. En lisant la description des plats, on en a l’eau à la bouche. Et tout sent si bon!
J’ai choisi une salade en entrée, composée de fenouil, ananas, faux-​poulet croustillant et d’une vinaigrette épicée. Mon plat principal se composait de légumes dans une sauce à la noix de coco, au cari rouge et au basilic, accompagné d’une portion de riz collant. Le plat n’était pas énorme, à peu près l’équivalent de ma salade en entrée. La taille des assiettes et entrées varie d’un plat à l’autre.
Nous étions un petit groupe et la plupart d’entre nous avions choisi différents mets et entrées, alors nous nous sommes permis de «picosser» dans les assiettes des autres. Tant de saveurs, couleurs et texture différentes!
Tout avait très bon goût et j’ai déjà hâte d’y retourner pour essayer autre chose!
Les prix né sont pas donnés, mais la qualité de la nourriture y est quand même pour quelque chose. Un cocktail, une entrée, un plat et une portion de riz collant m’ont coûté environ 50 $. Idéal pour une occasion spéciale, pas quand on est cassé comme un clou. ;)
Nous avons eu un excellent service, le personnel est courtois et empressé de répondre à nos questions.
La petite terrasse est plutôt invitante, une prochaine fois j’aimerais bien l’essayer. Je suggère d’appeler pour réserver. Nous étions 8 personnes et le restaurant s’est rapidement rempli de petits groupes.

Just went back here whilst in town. it had been 4 years since the last time! Talk about consistency! It’s just how I remember it if not better. I love the modern art on the walls and the cozy seating plan.
We ordered the shrimp green curry and the ginger chicken and we absolutely loved it! The sticky rice really paired well with our dishes. The rice portions are kinda small. we should have ordered 3 rice orders for the 2 of us. will do so next time!
The mango sticky rice dessert is impeccable. It’s a must when you eat here!!!
Service is pleasant and extra fast.
The food is a little pricey but I still think for the quality it’s worth it.
