Greasy Spoon

I heard a lot of buzz about this spot, so I had to try it out. I guess there menu has a variety of American classics, we took a couple of drinks which were over priced, but they were very boozy so I guess that’s okay.
I took there burger and truffle fries, the burger had the classic toppings with a version of there house made Big Mac sauce. Nothing special about the burger but the fries were very good. Nicely seasoned and an earthy note with the truffle oil. My gf took the bavette with fries, the bavette had a green salsa over it, didn’t add much to the dish. We also tried there pulled pork Mac and cheese. We found it too sweet.
Overall I would give it another chance even though I wasn’t that impressed.

No wow factor, the food didnt impress us, lack of taste, wont come back. We order 2 appetizers, 2 main courses and 1 dessert and we didnt like all
the plates we had. Nice waiter.

Went to greasy spoon with a Groupon. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was nice at the food was very good. The portions were great! I’m a big eater and usually disappointed at these kinds of restaurants, but I was pleasantly full before dessert.
I had the calamari to start. It was perfectly cooked and came with a sweet and spicy sauce. For the main I had the Arctic char with mashed potatoes. It was excellent. For dessert I had the half baked chocolate cookie with ice cream. It was good but lacked in the chocolate chip department.
My dining partner is vegetarian and they have a lot of dishes that they will offer a vegetarian option for by replacing the meat with their house made falafel. She started with the tater tot poutine and it was excellent. The mac and cheese with falafel replacing the sausage was less excellent, but acceptable. The falafel fell flat in the dish and it wasn’t cheesy enough. Her dessert brought it all home with an incredible Nutella fried ravioli.

Oh man… I really am not sure that I want to give a four star for this one, but three seems a bit mean.
We have been here four times at least and only grouponed it the first time, so clearly there is a draw.
What is it? Food is good; ambiance is good; staff are good; prices are good. All sounds a little mediocre, right? But no. In this case the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
I think you should give this place a try. Maybe you’ll like it.

Had my birthday dinner there. Best experience ever in plateau area. Food was great, the vibe was right to the mood. Especially, the Service is super great!

Went there twice previously and enjoyed my experience. Wasn’t anything extraordinary but had a really good burger, decent apps, good baked cookie dessert etc. Went again last night and everything was two notches below in quality. Burger was not good, starter of general Tao Spring roll not good at all. Wife had the tartar trio, which she also felt was average at best. Not going to recommend this place at all at this point.

Mais le service laisse tellement à désirer! Leurs spéciaux 5 à 7 né sont pas clairs. Déjà que les serveuses ont l’air perdues et plus occupées sur leur cellulaire qu’à venir voir les clients.
Notre serveuse nous a dit que les spéciaux étaient sur le vin et la vodka alors j’ai commandé 1 verre de vin blanc et mon copain 1 vodka canneberge.
Elle revient avec un vodka canneberge et deux verres de vin blanc pour moi! Je lui dis que je veux juste un verre et elle quitte avec l’autre. A la fin nous avons payé le prix complet pour le vin et le cocktail parce qu’il fallait commander le même breuvage! Elle n’aurait pas pu nous le dire quand on a commandé? C’était écrit nulle part alors je compte sur elle pour me le faire savoir!
Peut être que tout ça est un malentendu mais c’est l’attitude «je m’en foutiste» qui dérange. Je sais pas quel genre de serveurs sont engagés j’aurais du lire les commentaires avant de franchir la porte parce que c’est loin d’être bon et c’est dommage parce que c’est quand même de la nourriture décente.

I’d give it a zero if that was an option. My boyfriend and I were in Montréal for our first time this past weekend and wanted to grab a few drinks after dinner. This place seemed to have a good vibe and was down the street from where we had dinner so at 10:30pm we wandered in. The bar had 6 open seats and there were empty tables everywhere. The «host» came over as we walked in, already a disgusted look on his face for some reason, and asked us how many. I said 2 and he asked, «for food?» to which I replied probably not, just a few drinks. He then pointed to the door and said that this is a «restaurant» (as though I couldn’t tell people were eating) so we could only stay if we wanted to get food. I was more than a bit surprised but hey, I’m glad he told us how they felt before we were able to spend any money. Looking at the reviews, it looks like we were better off!

Food is excellent. Service is excellent.. The owner is very attentive and ensures you are having a great time!
Had the tuna tartar. delicious. .
Menu changes regularly which keeps it new no matter how many times you visit!

First of all, I have to say we were using a Living Social deal for this dinner, which made it all the more enjoyable!
We sat on the terrace which was lovely at the start when there were only about eight other diners, but when a party of 14 came in, the atmosphere went downhill.
The cocktail and beer were brought immediately, and shortly after, the philly cheese steak spring rolls and steak tartar were also brought to us… two truly amazing appies!
Hubby had the beer battered Australian bass — whenever we go out, I ask him what kind of fish and chips he’s going to have — he said it was the best fish he has ever tasted!!! I had the lobster roll, and to my surprise there are TWO lobster rolls with homemade Cajun chips. They were very good, but the accompanying Tarragon cole slaw was not to my taste, oh well, the chips were delicious!
I was looking forward to my one bite of After 8 cheesecake, but I found the mint overpowering. The half-​baked cookie with ice cream, on the other hand, was sinfully delicious, but NO WAY could you possibly finish it.
We will definitely go back, there are lots of interesting-​sounding dishes on the menu!

Food was great. Service, not so much.
Went with a living social deal and had the Beef Tartare (amazing), Tuna Tataki (also good, but preferred the Beef) for appetizers. Mains were the lobster roll and pork ribs; the prices are a bit high for what you get, but since we had the deal we weren’t too fussed. I wouldn’t pay full price for those items. The dessert was called «After Eight Cheesecake» but it’s banana cheese cake with Scor bar on top… a bit deceiving.
Overall our waiter was VERY slow. Took almost 15 minutes before anyone even brought us water. Half an hour before we had drinks on the table and didn’t get our appetizers until over an hour after we sat down. Everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but it wasn’t event that busy, and there were tons of staff.
Overall I wouldn’t go back, the price vs. the portions and service just don’t cut it.

Loved the atmosphere, cool people .
Music not too loud. There was good looking and courteous staff…
We ordered cheese steak spring rolls with French onion soup for a starter…
The spring rolls were AH-mazing…the soup however lacked cheese and was a bit burned in the toast region… it was not horrible though…
Mains were Pulled pork Mac n cheese and short ribs with mash
My bf liked his short ribs and the bite I had was pretty tender… But alas the no cheese tuna casserole like Mac and cheese was disappointing… I ate what I could …:0(
Then not having cocktails we decided dessert was in order…
Half baked cc cookie with ice cream (that the bring bubbling to your table… And a teeny weeny banana cheesecake in a teeny mason jar with toffee and whipped cream…
Both were delish and the lil bit of banana cake was Devine! The 4 stars we’re because I ordered the wrong thing and was sure the only bad part was the casserole no cheese Mac and cheese :0(so 3.5 stars !

Sorely disappointed. First of all. I don’t think they know what a greasy spoon is. This was an extremely over priced, confused place.
I ordered a lobster roll ($ 26) and a Paloma ($ 10) to drink. The lobster roll was good. Not $ 26 good, but good enough. The drink tasted really watered down, so I told the waitress (something that took a lot of guts for me– I very rarely return food for not liking it) — I was as polite as I could be, but the waitress gave me a bit more attitude than I expected!
She ended up taking it off of my bill, but only gave eye contact to my husband for the remainder of the evening. And stopped refilling our tiny water glasses. It was weird and I hope to never go there again.

Is it me or do restaurants in Montréal seem more expensive than even cities like New York or LA?
The food here was very good. I had gazspacho (thick tomato with a bit of zesty spice from the peppers — it needed more tortilla strips for the size of the bowl) and a the panzanella salad. I drank one cocktail (L’Outremont — friends don’t let other male friend’s order this drink. I read the ingredients — vodka, chambord, prosceco — and thought it would be a refreshing summer drink It WAS, but it was served in a champagne flute and was more prosecco than vodka) and one glass of red wine. My tab was $ 60 before tip!
My dining companion enjoyed his dishes as well — tuna tartare starter and grilled salmon over rice, but again we felt wanting something more;. They only have three desserts so we walked down the street to Juliet & Chocolat.
This is a good place — especially in better weather. They have a new patio and even the interior has a good vibe. Service was excellent and I swear our server was related to Katie Holmes.

Food and service was good, a little pricey but id def go back and bring a few friends!

I decided to come here with a friend as an alternative for our oyster fix. (Lawrence was closed… sadly) The way the oysters was presented to us was a bit cheap, which I didn’t like. The lemon was not cut in nicer wedges (it was half a lemon, I had to cut it myself), the sauce was watery, there was no rock salt etc. I hate to compare, but Lawrence definitely gets more points for presentation. But nonetheless we still enjoyed our oysters.
My friend and I ordered starters. Both delicious. She had a salmon tartare, while I had the chorizo with tomato confit onion tartlette. We didn’t order mains because the downside of this place is, it gets quite expensive.
Service was generally quite pleasant. I would not go here for oysters though. It was 12 for 24 $ So 2 $/​oyster. Not that good of a deal.

Needs A Wash.
I love grease, I am also a fan of spoons but Greasy Spoon, not so much. I don’t drop this term a lot… but…despite all my efforts to think of a better word to describe the place… all that came to mind was… shiddy.
I had the pulled pork sandwich and as a man who has spent significant time south of the Mason-​Dixon line, I’d like to think I know good pulled pork sandwich and this was not. Too sweet, under seasoned and fall apart… but not in the good way.
My girlfriend had the duck confit club sandwich, which missed the mark and was a bit of a gong show, even compared to the pulled pork sandwich. I’m sure she would have settled for a standard club sandwich that maintained it’s structural integrity. You know what I’m sayin’???

SUMMARY: Food is very decent + horrible SERVICE = UNLESS it’s free, I wouldn’t go back!
Let’s cut the crap and go straight to the point. I’m not a writer nor a food critic but I do enjoy eating out and especially eating good food! I had my reservations about this place (w/​numerous of bad reviews everywhere) but we had a Teambuy/​Groupon deal for this meal. The coupon was about to expire therefore we had to use it. Food is not everything nor is service unless you’re a staple of the city.
Part I:
— Walked into the restaurant, no one greeted us while I see staff behind the bar whom are available.
— Reserved for 8:30 got there at 9 and the table WASN’T READY
— In order to save time, we ordered as the waitress gave us the menu
Part II:
The food finally came after 35−40min wait. The kitchen is slow for such a small restaurant. (The runner was the one who delivered our food not our waitress) We DIDN’T even have the CHANCE to take a bite and the waitress was breathing down our neck and asked «How’s your meal??». Can you at least give us the chance to try the food first?! Numerous times we tried to flag down a staff, they totally ignored us. It’s not as if they were busy because I see people behind the bar chit-​chatting, etc.
Part III:
It’s time to pay the bill, the waitress had horrible etiquette. She was standing right next to us the whole time while we were punching our credit card information. Normally, you give the CC terminal and you walk away. You let the customer do his/​her duties then come back and you don’t STALK the customer!!!
The sad part about everything… the food was actually good. These reviews totally make sense… AVOID IT!

This place is fun to get together with friends for happy hour drinks or to grab a bite, and is also suitable for a date. It can get loud, but it’s a chill spot in a great area, and can lead to other amazing locations close-​by if you choose to leave.
I like the atmosphere and ambience. I’ve enjoyed meals such as the salmon tartar and the goat cheese croquettes!

I’m not surprised the reviews are all over the map on this one. This place has excellent food, but the experience is destroyed by waitstaff that seem to have multiple personality disorder. I’ve been there a dozen times and have been treated like royalty at some times, and like a leper others. Very bizarre. Anyways.
The décor is awesome — super casual but intriguing — think Aspen chic with a bit of hipster influence, but not too much. In the dead of winter, especially during a snowstorm, this place is like an oasis in the desert. So warm and inviting.
The food is generally excellent. The menu rotates, but in general everything is casual and tasty, albeit at slightly increased prices compared to what a normal bistro should be. I usually spend upwards of $ 150 for two including some cheap wine, which is on the higher end of the scale for the casual resto. The usual fare is there — upscale macaroni and cheese, burgers, etc. but sometimes they do some off-​the-​wall things, like schnitzel with a sunnyside egg cracked over it, or lobster sandwiches, etc.
Overall, worth a try. You might get lucky and catch the staff on a good day!

The enormous chalk boards on the walls where the menus are written are not only a great design addition to the inside and outside of the restaurant, but as the menu apparently changes often, they are very practical.
Must haves:
–the Poutine because it is super-​original; profitrole pastry stuffed with potato, deep fried, the gravy rocks, there is tons and tons, and the cheese is the perfect level of fresh and salty
–the same waiter we had with crazy black vine-​like tattoos on his arms; proficient in french and english, really friendly, great food recommendations, smiling eyes
–Sapporo beer on tap which goes great with everything on the menu
I was torn between loving the numerous mounted moose heads hanging on the walls. So Canadian, and rustic, as decore they compliment the thick, wooden tables and aged leather stools, but as an animal lover, it’s disturbing to look into those empty eyes…
